Restroom Review #1: Chipotle Mexican Grill (Warren Street, Mankato)

There are five categories I use to review restrooms. They are aesthetic, amenities, maintenance, odor, and location. Each category will get a rating out of 20, and the final score will be out of 100. I will then rate accordingly.

I couldn't really decide what I thought the aesthetic was supposed to be. I honestly felt like I was in an enlarged maintenance closet, with the single-chamber room, concrete floor, and industrial-looking sink. However, I do realize that Chipotle restaurants generally embrace the rustic and tin style, so I'll factor this in.

As far as amenities go, there wasn't a whole lot to work with given the space available. There was a toilet, toilet paper, a sink, soap and paper towel dispensers, and a simple push-to-lock door. I do appreciate that there's plenty of empty space in the room, allowing for a nice stretch while having a pee. I would have appreciated a hand dryer, though, as many people like myself don't enjoy the general feel of paper. I understand that this is a rather expensive splurge, though, so I'm not docking too many points for it.

The restroom was very well-kept in terms of maintenance. Everything worked normally and there was an intact and clean mirror. Also, there was no toilet paper on the floor and there was a sufficient amount of paper towels in the dispenser. However, the toilet itself was a bit dusty and the floor had a bit of dirt in certain places.

The odor in the restroom wasn't extremely apparent, which isn't a bad thing. There was a very faint smell of some type of cleaner, as well as the inevitable restroom smell of wet paper towels in the garbage can. Nothing rancid stuck out to me, so there's nothing to complain about.

As far as the location within the restaurant, it's again apparent that only a certain amount of space was available and that whoever built the building had to make do. The restrooms are out of the way of the main dining area, which is nice in case you need more time to catch that your fly is down or something before emerging back into the sea of burrito lovers. But oh no, this whole shebang is ruined by the fact that there's more bar seating and a wide exterior window in the hall space leading to the restrooms. I guess it's not that bad, but at the same time I'd conclude that it'd be better without the bar seating space.

The restroom was definitely satisfactory by my standards, but it's clear that it could be better. There aren't any urgent upgrades or improvements I'd suggest, except of course maybe putting in a hand dryer. Other than that, not bad.
