After saying "no" several times in writing, the accountant in Bend mailed me a bill for the ad they sent to my email and noted it would be printed 15,000 times as well as be in their online version of their Outdoors Magazine. I do not advertise my personal phone number publicly, they had no right in their predatory commercial misappropriation of my business logo and copyright protected photography to try to sell it back to me in an ad and demand payment. Unprofessional predators.

Our favourite read is the Police Blotter. It can be filled with some unintended humour. You have to love some of our residents and "crimes" that are reported. Prowler calls turn out to be raccoons, suspicious noises tend to be neighbourhood cats tap dancing on a roof, the usual listing of the town drunks, and rebels without a clue can always bring a laugh as well. It is actually pretty refreshing to live in a region with minimal crime where we can giggle at the crime statistics. Hell, the listing of "offenders" gives the bar crowd at Rod's something to gossip about on slow nights!! In this day and age were print media is suffering and going all electronic, it is nice to have a small town paper that serves the local needs. Warrenton is an odd little area. It takes a special paper to keep its finger on the pulse of all of the action. Gotta go watch the paint dry....peace.

Most of the writers published in this quarterly aren't aiming to be The Next Big Thing In The Publishing World, although they certainly have the talent to become just that. They're writing for writing's sake, and their work reflects that fact. Usually themed, Tin House Magazine packs a punch with its unique offerings in fiction, poetry and the art of the essay. It's a wonder that this magazine isn't available on newsstands everywhere, but then again its Fall 2009 issue, the doubly-themed "Hope/Dread," featured a brilliant sun on one side and a menacing devil on the other, and the literature was chosen accordingly. Try putting that out there on the same rack with Cosmo and see which one sells faster. But then again, Tin House isn't about sales, at least not in the conventional publishing sense. They are all about good literature, and they're not afraid to publish good literature. In a world gone mad - or at the very least, dominated by popular fiction that's often not worth the paper it's printed on - Tin House is a breath of fresh air. Sometimes strange, often different, usually thought-provoking air, but fresh air all the same. Can I get an "Amen" to that?

And I almost feel like I am at adult summer camp or some Ivy League east coast campus for that one week in July!

Patrick claims he did this and I waited patiently to hear the results of the investigation. I periodically called and emailed to get updates, but he stopped responding. As I looked into it more myself, I am now past the 60 day limit where UPS will give refunds. So my parents have neither their missing items or compensation.
