Beef sticks, curry fish balls, roast duck buns and beef gyro platter
    Cecilia T.

4 stars for the food hall itself but cannot rate the same for the vendors. I've had the pleasure to try all the vendors out here and had mixed experience (some good/ some not so good) on each of the different genres of food I've tried... The Halal Guys (Middle Eastern)-4 stars, really enjoyed the beef gyro platter from them. Ice NY (Thai rolled ice cream)-4 stars, the cookie spree rolled ice cream was really good. Kurry Korner (All things curry)-3 stars, the curry fish ball was ok, curry tasted a bit weak. Coreanos (Mexican Korean)-3 stars, the double fried chicken tacos was bland, kind of dry but perfectly crispy and the sauce was good with a spicy kick. Philly Poke (Hawaiian)-3 stars, the tuna poke bowl was decent but nothing to brag about. The Bao Bar (Chinese)-2 stars, the roast duck buns had no flavor, the duck itself was dry and hard. Khmer Grill (Cambodian)-2 stars, the beef sticks were well seasoned but was very chewy and hard and the same goes for the chicken gizzard and chicken heart (not so good). Wasn't fond of the pork sausage either. All the staff from each vendor were very nice, friendly, super helpful and accommodating. Can't wait to return again to try more food (and drinks-Teaus is opening soon) whenever I'm in Philly! Fyi, most of the vendors take cash only. :/

What a great new addition to Chinatown. This cool modern food court has something for everyone. You can even get Middle Eastern Street food here. I really enjoyed my lunch at Philly Poke but really need to come back to try the goodies at Coreanos a Mexican Korean place. What could be better than Bulgogi Tacos? The double fried chicken also looked good. Kitty Korner also looked interesting. Want to try the Japanese curry pork Katsu. For dessert have to come back on s warmer day to get some of that Thai ice cream roll at I CE NY.

Philly's Chinatown makes me wish Pittsburgh had one. This isn't the area you'd expect to see in places like NYC with loads of street vendors selling their wares and trinkets. I like this Square and the newer food court as well. Great meal choices and so much more!

Chinatown Square on Race Street between 10th & 11th, is a nice attempt to bring Asian street food malls to Philly. It is a tiny version of these emporiums found on a grand scale in Flushing, NY, Toronto, and other major Chinese population centers. When done right in a large enough space, there are dozens of mini fast food outlets surrounding a central communal dining area where a group effort is required to scout for seats while the rest line up for the desired treats, and bring everything back to the demarked table. They are wildly successful. It remains to be seen if Chinatown Square has the critical mass of enough choices balanced with adequate seating to make it. But, my first visit was fun and tasty, and will bring me back for more when in the mood for snacks reminiscent of all those delights experienced in travels through China, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. There, when the sun goes down, the streets fill with bicycle kitchens setting up curbside cafes to grill the delicacies you select from the table spread in front of you, and served on miniature tables and stools on the sidewalk. Such a kick! The Cambodian sausage and BBQ beef on a stick from Khmer Grill were both greasily excellent. Tart/sweet marinade, just enough firing to cook everything without drying out, and timely delivery into a styro take out container, made for a delicious bite and chew. The other counters serving buns, gyros, Thai ice cream, etc., were all busy with happy folk talking or eyeing their phones. There is even a karaoke bar upstairs. Kudos to the developer who put this together. She is on to something that should be popular and lead to copycats all over Chinatown and the surrounding streets. This is just the beginning.

What's better than a hub of fresh Asian Cuisine! Love this food hall. There are a bunch of options for you to enjoy and a club upstairs. The Bao Bar makes great drinks. I suggest you visit this place and make your way down the hall and try each food vendor.

This is the newly food court that has been introduced into Chinatown. This place has a full bar and karaoke room upstairs along with many selections of delicious food. I live relatively close to this place so I'm a regular at some of the places. If anyone is reading this and want to own a store in the food court, there is one spot that is open by passing by regularly. They have Halal Guys, Poke(sushi), Kurry Korner, Bao Bar, Hi Kori, ICE NY Philly, Khmer Grill, Teaus, Dae Bak(Korean restaurant located on the second floor), and Johnnie Walker Lounge(located on second floor which opens at 4PM). If you would like to buy Wine, there is also a Wine store on the second floor as well. I have tasted each spot except Bao Bar, Khmer Grill, Teaus, and Dae Bak. All of the other places... I have reviewed and may be viewed on my profile! The food court is also clean and everyone is so welcoming and it seems like different employees within other stores know everyone in the square which is a great sense of community. Bathrooms are always clean... there are two in the front near the steps and about four to five in the back. Seatings are located in the front but also more in the back. The color and design of the food court is put together very nicely. It has a modern but mellow vibe which makes people feel at home but that is from my experience. The main floor with shops side by side is relatively mellow but as you pass shops it is bright with selections of food which is great to attract customers eyes. There are bars located on the first floor(in the back) and upstairs which is open up late which is good for people who do not get off work early. Prices are relatively near $10 but the food is great and resembles the price. MUST FOLLOW ALL SHOPS ON SOCIAL MEDIA!! They have great promotions that give you discounts. Examples are Kurry Korner, I remember one week it was buy a meal and get their famous Mango smoothie for $1 and ICE NY Philly(ice cream shop) gave out $2 coupons during Chinese New Year. A new shop called Teaus has a promotion that I believe is currently active as they just opened yesterday which is; if you bought something from the square and show the Teaus employee, you get a drink for $1.(caution: might not apply anymore) Highly recommend this food court to friends and families due to the authentic energy within the square and so many options for delicious food. RESTAURANT: HI KORI REVIEW During this review, I am also reviewing Hi Kori which is not a Yelp page but is within the square and is connected to the bar. I got the Pork Belly with rice. The service was overall good and fast, no other comment because I came when there was no one at Hi Kori. My order consisted of rice, vegetables, pork, and yellow radish. Everything tasted amazing! Whatever sauce they put into the rice was what made me want more and what is making me come back to try the other options. Everything on the dish complemented each other. Highly recommend first-timers to try the Pork Belly with Rice which is $10 before taxes before anything else in the menu. (photo will be located below) Highly recommended Hi Kori!!

So I have been here quite a few times, ever since the halal guys had that soft opening actually, and im soooooooo grateful. They have a sort of all-in-one place where you can satisfy each taste bud as well as now go upstairs and sing your heart out. Honestly something for everyone; from a trendy rolled ice cream place to khmer food, mexi-korean place, poke, baos, THE HALAL GUYS and now a lounge & karaoke bar upstairs. Love how they have seating in the back as well as up front and outside. If you're short on cash, well there's an ATM. Feel like physically doing something....there's a ping pong table in the back. And its open late and really late on weekends. Glad I waited till later to review it, I cannot wait to see what else blooms of this place.

This place is offers all kinds of street market food from around Asia in a clean modern cafeteria setting. You can find curries, pokes, sushi, halal food, rolled icream and many others all in one location! Seating is in the back and might get limited depending on when you come visit, but make sure you stop here on your trip through Philly Chinatown.

Not as big as I imagined, but there's a nice and cool seating area in the back with flat screen tv's. Music playing in the background, gave a laid back vibe for people escaping the busy city. There was about 5-6 vendors open; some vendor spaces were vacant. I feel like they need more variety. I ate at halal guys for the first time and ordered chicken platter; which was okay. Overall it seems like a relaxing place to eat and hang out. I have heard some days can be very busy and crowded in there. Might be fun with friends.

I'm here to write a review specifically for Halal Guys in the food court of Chinatown Square. It was the night of 4/19/2019. Now I've only been to this store a handful of times and each time has been nothing short of a nice experience. The manager with the navy polo typically takes my order and he is great. As I was standing in line, ready to order my food, the employee that was supposed to take my order stares at me as if I was supposed to take his. I ordered a combo platter. He looked high out of his mind and seemed as if he was ready to take a nap. As I made my way down the line, he was mumbling under his breath and I could not understand a word that left his mouth, having to constantly ask him to speak up. He was moving slower than my dead pet snail and took a whole 3 minutes putting my platter into the plastic to-go bag. When I got home, the lid had completely came loose and half my food spilled out into the bag. The cherry on top was a foreign object in my dish that resembled floss/string. I believe the employee's name is Videll.

So you might stumble across info for the best times to secure a walk-up reservation and they'll tell you to arrive at least by 10:30am Thursday through Saturday as Mawn opens at 11am. But let me tell you how I pulled up in front of Mawn at 10:40am on a Thursday and there was already a line of about 15 people!! Mind you, these people have PEOPLEZ as quite a few were holding spots in line for others in their party who could now casually stroll up to the line since their spot was secured by their people. I'm telling you have a game plan! If I knew then what I know now I probably would have got there at least by 9:30, seriously. My party got waitlisted as soon as we were just one person away from entering the restaurant and we had to wait for another 40 minutes. Fortunately it was a nice day so we just walked around the neighborhood and came back and got in. It's a small quaint place that only seats about 28 people. You'll feel like your visiting your favorite relatives home. You'll glance around at the other guest and feel like WOW i'm one of the few who finally made it into one of the most coveted highly acclaimed restaurants in Philly! Now let me see if it lives up to the hype! haha! I started out with the pear melon salad. It was light and refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed the citrus notes and the pear slices. I would have never thought to add the pear but that really complimented the salad well. I was told that a MUST try is the head on soft shell shrimp. At first I wasn't thrilled about the thought of eating the head but said what the heck, lets go for the full experience! If you love softshell crabs you'll love this! There was nothing off putting about it. It simply taste like delicious premium shrimp in a fish caramel sauce with a hint of thai basil and chili. It was wonderful. I could have gone for a second round but I wanted to try other items. I enjoyed the seafood fried rice..this is similar to the crab fried rice but included uni roe and caviar with saracha on the side so you can regulate your heat level. I'll say this, while I enjoyed the seafood fried rice and the bonus elements of it, I was not a fan of the texture of the rice itself. Perhaps it's just my preference. The rice was light, fluffy and slightly sticky in texture whereas I prefer more of a thai fried rice which is dry, slightly firm and non-clumpy texture. But that's not taking any cool points away from Mawn. It's just my preference that i'm mentioning in case anyone else goes in expecting a different texture. I love the team service aspect at Mawn. Our waiter emphasized that we're not bugging anybody if we need anything we can stop any staff person walking by. I love that. Beef Noodle soup is delicous here. So is the yellow curry noodle soup. The fish is really good here too. I didn't realize I could have requested for it to be deboned (probably because I was talking to much lol) But my waiter was kind enough to come over and help me debone it when they saw I was struggling lol This was the first time I ever had a green thai tea! It was really a treat. Not overly sweet. Nothing but pure deliciousness here! And a super helpful warm friendly staff.

I love a good BYO, so I can splurge a bit more on the food and not worry about the cost of alcohol. For a party of three, we order 5 appetizers and shared the all star fried rice, which was a perfect amount of food. We got the beef skewers, which were definitely a favorite - the meat absolutely melts in your mouth! The papaya salad paired well with this, as it was tangy and refreshing, especially on such a hot day. The scallop crudo was a special for the night, but I think they should add this to their permanent menu because it was definitely a standout! The all star fried rice at $54 was also well worth it. I am often disappointed by dishes like these due to the lack of "stuff", but there was crab throughout and a generous portion of roe. I was a little disappointed however that there were only 2 scallops at that price. Overall, each dish had impeccable flavor, great presentation, and a good amount of seafood for the price.

The best thing to try to get in this area if you're adventurous is the papaya salad from any of the hawkers (I prefer the fat lady at 7th just south of Winton, around 2130, I guess). In Thai, it's called somtam, but it is of Cambodian origin and called bok l'hong. Its hot, garlicy, salty goodness is fantastic at $5 no matter which hawker makes it for you (and it's prepared fresh to order by all of them, too). It's an enormous amount and really, it's enough for six people as an appetizer salad. Goes great with sticky rice. There're also hawkers along Moyamensing between 8th and 4th and around Mifflin Square at 6th and Ritner (NOT Mifflin, oddly enough) and they all carry the same sort of stuff. If you're worried about the area, there's a hawker on the south side of Jackson St near Mildred between 9th and 8th and that area's a tad less rough. I'd give five stars, but sometimes you'll venture here and find no hawkers. Their availability changes with the weather and on colder or rainy days, you'll find no one.
