It may not be quiet what you think. Usually a China Town is a small area of streets in a city in which all the shops are Chinese, and maybe they go to a bit of effort to appropriately acculturize the landscape. Auckland's 'China Town' is more like a warehouse department store, the majority of which is taken up by the foodcourt, and then there are some little stores around the place. It is not as lively as you would hope, it would be a lot more interesting if it had the hustle and bustle of a market, but instead it is kind of barron and crappy.
