Super friendly place. Things close early around here, but at 7:30 pm we found them still open. Due to Covid, the buffets are closed (thank you!), and they have menu service available. While we were there, 7 other people came in and placed to go orders. They were super cautious to maintain 6-8 feet distancing and took our order from a nice distance, then had us stand in a designated waiting spot distant from others waiting. I was super impressed with how they are handling things in the current state of things. I didn't see their menu on-line, so here are a few photos to help those unfamiliar with the restaurant. Their food is okay i guess but there are definitely better Chinese food options 20 miles down the road. The food doesn't have much flavor honestly. Every time i place a to-go order, they tell me it's going to be 30 minutes and i usually end up waiting at least an hour past the estimated pick up time in the restaurant. Just passing through town and wanted to stop at a buffet as that's the easiest way to feed 6 people (2 adults and 4 kids). Atmosphere was wonderful. Employees were really friendly. Not a large buffet. Egg rolls and egg drop soup was delicious. Lo mein noodles were overcooked (at least for my likings) and really sticky (I added soy sauce and it was much better). Broccoli in the beef and broccoli was delicious. I believe the hubby was less than impressed with his choices. Was a bit shocked at the ticket. Almost $60 after the tip. And that's with one kid being free. At this time, I don't feel like we'd stop there again. read more

I love this place! The sweet & sour sauce is my favorite! I always have to ask for a pair of chopsticks but there was one time the waitress remembered me & gave them to me up front. I really appreciated that. I love the noodles here - the garlic chicken dipped in sweet & sour is amazing! The food has been fresh most of the times I've been here do no real complaints. I'd rather go here than to the two Chinese restaurants in Chanute. One of them has dishes that taste like dirty dish water. Not here though! I wish the salad bar were a little bigger & also the hot food side... But they would need to expand the building to do that. I think it would be well worth it. Js. Overall, I'm happy here. read more

Apparently this is one of the better restaurants in the area - which is saying a lot about the area food. I had the dinner buffet and there wasn't one veggie option - it was all meat and poultry. And even those weren't that great. I've had much better Chinese food elsewhere. On the plus side, dinner was super cheap and the service was friendly and fast. read more

Unfortunately 1 star is the lowest you can give this place. Pros. Waitress was pleasant. Cons. Food was terrible. Soups had no flavor. Crab rangoons has very little crab stuff and it was dry and flavorless. Only like 3 Chinese type dishes on the buffett. I would buy frozen Chinese out of the freezer section at grocery store before I would eat here again. Plus it was almost 30 bucks for an adult and a kid buffett. It's gross! The first time I went I had got food poisoning. The second time was 2yrs later thinking it might had changed but I had gotten it again. I met three people that had worked there and told me no one washed there hand before handling the food. read more

This is a good choice if you are looking for a buffet with fresh food. Everything they have is very good, especially the desert puffs. There is ice cream as well. The egg rolls, spring rolls, and mushrooms were excellent. The server was attentive and kind. The price is good as well. I recommend trying it if you are in the area. read more

Food is good, they could use a good mix with veggies with carrots/onions/peppers etc,, kind of hard to get any veggies.. The chicken is very good,, but it's pretty expensive to feed a small child. Food: The food was good, the ribs were delicious and tender. Perhaps since the last reviewer (In 2008) there has been an addition of vegetables. There is variety and even if you don't like a few things on the buffet there are many other things you will like. Its a Chinese Buffet, everyone has things they dislike and certain dishes you always look for at any buffet. Service was friendly and the staff there was very pleasant. Very nice and even though busy did not seemed rush talking to us. Kept everything very professional but harboring a family owned atmosphere that is inviting for those who walk in the front door. The place is good for small town and without much in the area you really can't beat it if you are driving through or even if you live in town. If you live in town I'm sure you already know and been here to enjoy the friendly staff and good food. read more

This Chinese restaurant has become over priced and under imaginative. Very little change in the buffet ever. Chinese restaurants in other towns have more selection and a lower price. Most of the time the shrimp and egg rolls are over cooked. Broccoli and beef is ok. read more

Acceptable quality for some of the dishes in the buffet, low price of $8.50 for a dinner. That's good enough for me.

This doesn't even deserve one star, but this site will not let me review without rating. The food is over cooked, and the buffet has a very limited selection. The food is extremely overpriced also. On the other hand. They are a complete con job. My friend and I had went there to meet up with a group, after we had already eaten at a different restaurant. The food was mediocre at best and undigestible at its worst. The last time we ate there, the food had been sitting out for so long that it turned my stomach, and I ended up leaving hungry. Unfortunately I was very disappointed in the fact that I ordered "take out" that definitely was not fresh. Now to me Take out is supposed to be fresh I happened to go in early to pay for my food and see someone getting food OFF of the BUFFET and it was EXACTLY what I ordered including the supposed "House dishes" that are supposed to be fresh and made to order. I asked the waitress/person at the register if the food was made fresh for take out. She told me yes, I asked her why the guy was getting food off the buffet and it was foods that I ordered. Well, she then told me, "Oh when you order certain things that are not "house recipe" we take off of the buffet. At this point I was not happy and I know it is not this girls fault of the restaurant practice. But to me if I wanted food from the buffet I would have come inside and got food off of the buffet. I ordered the House rice, well they basically pulled rice from the buffet basically to add pork, shrimp and chicken too. I was not at all happy with this at all. I have eaten from the buffet at this place and I was not satisfied. Everything was bland, not to hot and was not even your traditional Chinese food buffet. I was told by someone that if you order take out that it is better and fresh, well that was not true. Needless to say, I cancelled my order and went to get fresh Mexican food from El Charros. I have been going here since I was little and still I can not find chinese food anywhere that competes with here. The buffet is small, but everything on it is delicious. Worst Chinese restaurant ever.... I have been to many Chinese restaurants that I enjoy, but China Palace,in Iola, is was not one. Let me start off when I first walked in with my mom, sister, aunt, and my cousins; the waitresses were a mess. One girl told us to sit one place and another girl told us to sit elsewhere. So listening to the second girl we took a seat "elsewhere". Most people who go into a Chinese buffet restaurant get the buffet, and that's exactly what we did. Our waitress brought us our drinks and when I got up I looked around. There were only two short buffet counters. One was a salad bar and the other contained the "actual Chinese food." "This food better be good considering there is so little of it," I thought to myself. Well unfortunately it wasn't. I started off with a salad containing: the type of salad you would buy in a bag at Walmart, light ranch, "fresh" tomatoes, boiled eggs, and a few croutons to top it off. My first bite of the not-so-fresh-vegetable-mess was simply unsatisfactory. The light ranch was sour as if out dated. The lettuce was wilted; carrots, soft; tomatoes, warm; and the croutons were soggy. So, that was not a very good start to my meal, but like I say, "Never judge a restaurant by their "not-so-good salad!" Keeping my hopes up for the "good stuff," I continued to fix my plate of the "actual Chinese food." The food tasted absolutely, wonderfully.. disgusting! The Sweet and Sour Pork not only smelled bad, but it was also so "well seasoned" that I couldn't bare to finish it. The Loman Noodles had no flavor what so ever, and I was not about to pour their oh-so-salty Soy Sauce all over them. I thought to myself, "Okay, that was nasty, but surely they cannot mess up an egg roll!" Well, I stand corrected. The doughy egg roll, not to mention the Sweet and Sour Sauce that tasted like cherry cold medicine, was absolutely just what It took to ruin my appetite for the day. "Okay, Katy, you have to eat something... Oh look! Cream puffs!! Not a healthy choice but I need something to please my tastebuds! They can absolutely do no wrong on cream puffs!!" This is what I thought until I bit into mine and there was no cream. This, including the odd tasting ice cream, made me a little, no, very upset.And the smell of fecal waste on my way out of the restaurant was just what I needed to anger me enough to write this review. i live in iola and i love China Palace. their garlic chicken is tops. their egg rolls are very tops. all of their dishes are very fine. i have been told there, to not dig out all of the broccoli from a beef dish...yes i was guilty. (i said i live in the town.) they now have an ice cream machine. fab. their salad bar is tops as are their desserts. i love to go every month, but i'd rather go twice a day. that is a ha-ha. they have started frying coated fish which is a yum, and shrimp, which is awesome. i think, "why leave town?" our Chinese Restaurant is the best i've ever tasted. read more
