I never give bad reviews but with this era of poor customer service, this one warranted one! I ordered and picked up a Large Wonton Soup and two egg rolls at 3:10pm. I went straight back to my office in Felton DE. Lifted the bag and I had wonton soup all over my car floor. The guy never fully closed the wonton soup container. now I have to spend more money to clean the inside of my car. I called the manager and he was yelling at me on the phone! From Walgreens to China Kitchen, really? Really. Having to pick up a package that I was waiting for at Walgreen's, and thinking I would eat first but then scratching that idea and saying to myself, "Okay, if my package is there, I will just get it and forgetting grabbing a bite to eat." Package was there, and even despite my earlier resolve, I thought, noodles, Chinese, try it! I walked into Chinese Kitchen and of course you smell everything, which is good or bad depending on who you are. I found out you need to have at least a 10.00 order to use a credit card and so ordered Dumplings and Chow Mein Noodles. There was a gentleman behind me, and when he found out he had to pay what he thought was too much for fried rice, or white rice, and argued a bit, despite the manager trying to work with him on a package deal, that man just walked out. I shook my head a little realizing that no matter where you go, some that disagree simply do not know how to treat others respectfully. The manager - did nothing, lank expression and went about his business, and was simply positive and neutral about the whole event, kudos to him. Five minutes later my order was up - and I was mouth watering, I have to tell ya. I got home and as you see in the pictures yes, yes yes. I tried to save the dumplings, out them back twice to save some, and they never made it all had to be devoured. Chow mein noodles in the fridge and they will be tomorrow (fingers crossed). If you are looking for impressive interior and sitting to enjoy space, this is not made for that - you can - but the real wealth is in the taste and authenticity of the food. I don't just fling 5 star reviews around for nothing and definitely not for takeout Chinese food, but this place deserves it. It's not cheap, but it's good. I think the thing I'm most impressed with is the veggies, lol! Have you ever been to a Chinese place that just sort of tosses the veggies in the wok at the last second and only leaves them in there long enough to get coated in sauce? You stick a piece of broccoli in your mouth and it's RAW?! Ugh, I hate that! I actually LOVE the veggies here! I have had a few different things on the menu and haven't been disappointed with any of it. For almost a decade, China Kitchen, a hole in the wall at the Woodside Shopping strip mall, was our "go-to" for Chinese take-out food, 7 days a week. This was never a sit down restaurant, nor was it ever warm and fuzzy. It seemed to be family owned and the head cook wore a chef's hat, which is unusual for take-out, but the food was consistent, tasty and quickly prepared. During Covid the business was apparently sold to new owners and it is now closed on Mondays. The main reason I am giving China Kitchen 1 star is because of their inconsistency. About 2 weeks ago, we ordered quarts of wonton soup ($6.45), vegetable soup ($7.45), a quart of shrimp & fried tofu ($13) and a quart of teriyaki chicken ($12). The soups were good and the vegetables in my soup were big pieces of broccoli, bok choy, carrots, bamboo shoots and baby corn. The shrimp & fried tofu came in a black plastic, rectangular, quart-sized container and it contained a fair amount of shrimp, fried tofu triangles and veggies. My husband's teriyaki chicken came in a smaller red cardboard "micro-pail" which clearly contained less food/protein (as little chicken as possible and tons of filler veggies) than my dish, yet both dishes were supposedly quart sized. He commented that they probably used as much chicken as one portion at the Sarku in the Dover Mall, and filled the rest of the container with veggies. Last week we went back and I ordered the same items while my husband switched to sweet & sour chicken ($11.45). This time the veggies in my soup were scraps of both broccoli and bok choy, plus sliced green pepper! My "quart" of shrimp & fried tofu came in the red micro-pail and contained only 6 smallish shrimp and cubes of tofu that were clearly not fried. My husband's sweet & sour chicken also came in a red micro-pail which is closer in size to the pint used for white rice, than the plastic rectangular container. Seems like many local take-out places took advantage of selling their businesses during the Covid pandemic and unfortunately few, if any, of the new owners have improved upon service, food or price. China Kitchen's new owner's must imagine that as the only game in town they can do whatever they want. As for us, we may have to head further south to Milford or north to Dover, but we're done with this place. read more

I recently moved to Frederica DE and looking for a good place for Chinese food. We went by the ratings on yelp and I am sorry this is the worst Chinese food we have every had. Placed an order on April 22nd around 6:00 pm for cream cheese wonton, fried chicken wings with shrimp fried rice, house lo mein, chicken egg foo young. I thought paying $32 for the order was a little pricey but I still ordered. I got home to see that my chicken with shrimp fried rice was short alot of shrimp. I was given 2 shrimp in my entire order (yes 2 shrimp). I've eaten alot of shrimp fried rice in my life but this was the first time I was able to count (with 2 fingers) the number of shrimp in the order. Additionally, my spouse told me the food she ate was not all that. This is/was a total rip off and they should be ashamed of themselves. I went and got me some real shrimp fried rice at happy fortune. I do not recommend this place and you need to skip this place if you're looking for chinese food. read more

I decided to try this place for the first time ever for takeout food based on the positive reviews I'd read. What a huge disappointment and needless to say, I'll never go back. Ordered House special egg foo young and house fried rice. One pays extra for these dishes as they're supposed to contain 4 types of meat. My order contained very little meat; mainly just rice and plain thin egg foo young patties with large onion pieces as fillers. General Tso chicken was chewy cause the chicken was cut with the grain and not against the grain. A huge waste of money and I regret having left a tip. read more

Horrible food. Ordered ahead around 2pm and was picked up 30 minutes later. Egg foo young was burnt, sweet and sour shrimp was cooked past rubber (obviously cooked long before being ordered).
