a friend brought dinner and i must say i dont think i have ever had a chicken ball the size of a professional baseball in any chinese restaurant . its often said that bigger is not always better and in this case Bigger is definately not better I must say biting in to this massive crispy ball was very traumatic you didnt know what was on the inside but then .......... its the mouthful of batter,,grease,...undercooked rubbery (couldnt cut it with a steak knife)chicken...& lastly fishy tasting had to spit it out the breaded fantail shrimp were so overcooked you couldnt bite into it... the Chicken Fried Rice well rice was good however the chicken pieces were like mystery meat with fat attached it just takes one bite of fat in what was a fine tasting fried rice to kill the whole meal one bite that makes you spit it out & push the plate away it was very dissapointing to say the least as a call to them only proved that they were not very pleased with our complaint that no one else had complained so there should be no problem with our food Newsflash there was a problem and by looking a t some of the reviews i see why.... I rate it 0000 read more

This restaurant is conveniently located on Pembina Highway, however I would cross the street and go to Dim Sum Garden which is brighter and the food better quality even though overpriced. I like to support mom and pop-type businesses like China Garden but the restaurant looked like it fell onto the earth from a time capsule from the 1970s. The washroom's musty-moldy smell accompanied paper rolls perched precariously on top of the empty dispenser. One faucet sink didn't work. And elderly lady customer was arranging her hair obsessively in the dim light and I expected her to take out a knife from her aged leather purse while I was in the stall. The inside of the dining area was beigey like an elementary school library set up with tables for Parent Teacher Night. The front staff were nice but not effusive, and the customers are mostly locals who like predictable fare. I ordered the combo and the chicken flew in my mouth and back out, it was so dry and gummy. The sauce was good but soaked the rice into an oily-sweet mash. The egg roll looked like a lumpy pillow stuffed with bean sprouts then beaten with a broomstick. They did not include any cutlery in my take-out so if I had not had any cutlery at work, I would have been crushing my face into the take-out container like a golden retriever enjoying a Friday night canned-food treat. The broccoli was the best part of the combo and definitely preferable to the chicken. I would give the entire meal a C- (with C being mediocre to average, like George W. Bush's grades at Yale). If there were a Chinese food equivalent of a peeling plaster hallway in an abandoned orphanage from the Cold War era, this would be it. The staff look like they're doing their best but you can't really stick a flower in a baseball cap and call it an Easter bonnet. I wish it could have been better. read more

This is probably my family's favourite Chinese restaurant - we have been ordering from here for years and have never been disappointed. The food always comes out hot and tasting great - and big portions. My family (there are four of us) typically order two of the C2 combination plates which comes with fried rice, vegetables, chicken balls and veal - and it is MORE than enough with some leftovers yet. They give you a discount if you pick up and pay in cash (unsure if that applies for deliveries). read more

Our family has been going here my entire life. My most favourite dish was removed from the menu. Golden Dragon, pork minced meat wrapped in bacon. So sad. I'm not going back. read more

This place doesn't look like a good Chinese restaurant because it's a stand alone building with no windows. It's hard to tell if it's open for business most of the time. When you come in, you'll notice the place is nicely decorated in Chinese decor that I would love for my home. The staff are always so welcoming and let you choose any seat you'd like. I like that they talk to you like you're lifelong friends catching up. The food is prepared relatively quickly. My favorites here are the BBQ pork because they only use lean meat sliced thinly and the salmon prepared in black bean/soya sauce. We're talking big fillets of salmon marinated in a wonderful Asian sauce with onions and ginger. This place also does complimentary soup to begin your meal and a sweet green bean dessert at the end of the meal. The only major downfall isn't the fault of the restaurant. Winnipeg is known for their endless construction so you'll notice the major construction on Pembina Highway in front of the building. It does make access to this building difficult right now. read more

Ordered some takeout with friends on a Friday from here. For me there are three levels of Chinese food. Level 3- outstanding and a truly amazing meal Level 2 - an average meal, certain factors you question in flavour, presentation or level of saltiness and dishes offered. Level 1- really subpar food. Many questions come up in your head ie they are using lots of filler ingredients, skimping on meat. Or food does not leave a lasting impression. Dishes orderedconsisted of Chicken balls- like a fried crispy dough with a sweet garlic sauce. My friends ordered this but I tried it. It was like eating a timbit that was over cooked with chicken in the middle. Singapore noodles- mildl curry flavour and decent with shrimp and meat with vegetables. Okay but not memorable. Chow mein noodles with veg- decent mix of meat and veg but a bit salty and flavourless. Shrimp with vegetables- very small shrimp size and lots of broccoli stem in a gluey translucent sauce. I would not order again! Beef with mixed vegetables - ordinary mix of beef with vegetables. Okay, a bit salty but nothing to tell your Chinese grandma about. So my rating of this meal is between level 1 and 2. Maybe it's the dishes we ordered but I was not impressed. Edible but not amazing. read more

Been going here since 1994. They screwed up the order again. Ordered Chicken Chow Mein and they gave us another ginger beef. Last time they forgot the sweet & sour sauce. The are going down hill. read more

Ordered the dry breaded veal, dish was brought out and introduced as pork. We said we asked for veal, waitress said it's the same thing. We sent it back, lots of shouting could then be heard in the back. Manager came out and told us that industry standard is to substitute veal for pork. If I wanted pork I would have ordered pork. Why charge so much more for the same dish? I left a message for the restaurant to contact me but have heard nothing. read more

Late one weekday night, my husband and I desired some Chinese food. We came across China Garden, and truly it looked closed as tight as a drum. There are no windows, and therefore no welcoming lights. The door was unlocked, however, so we went in. The dining room was dark, but a lovely man told us we were welcome, turned on the lights and sat us at our table. Clearly they do a good delivery business, because the kitchen was bustling. We had the "special" won ton soup, and it was fantastic. Crisp veggies, tender won tons and broth that was flavourful, and not too salty. We had beef and broccoli and fried rice. Everything was great. Maybe they'd have more dining room business if the place was more welcoming. People are missing out when they pass it by. read more

This is a neighbourhood favourite. Service is always friendly and efficient. Decor is very plain and generally very clean. Price is moderate and reasonable for the size and quality of portions. If you can eat pork, try Golden Dragon: a delicious sausage meat wrapped with bacon and deep fried-with light s&s sauce. read more

Bad food, bad service, bad ambiance. No Chinese person would choose to come here! The restaurant's decor is tacky. The service was very slow even though there's few customers. Meat is tough and sauces are tasteless. Food is westernized at best, and this is not a respectable Chinese restaurant by any means. The food is very expensive for the quality... I should have gone for Chinese fast food. read more

Don't listen to the bros about the décor. This place is slamming decent chinese food into your face. No surprises. No worries. Can't go wrong with this spot. read more

Amazing food. Just as good as when the chow family owned it. Good thing they trained the new owners!! Family favourite

We ordered a take out meal (Sunday May 14th -2017; Mothers Day). They advised us to pick up 1 1/4 hours later...Ok I get it it's a big day. So we show up and wait for a further 2 hours. We finally left and called back to cancel the order. Throughout this time they were taking orders for take-out and promising 1 hour delivery times, which was just not going to happen with the lineup already there for takeout. Many upset pickup customers - some leaving with late orders some just leaving. We're not going back there again. Give us a truthful and reasonable pickup time! Don't misrepresent your service. I have people at home to feed! read more
