RAW CHICKEN ALERT!…read more Went here to grab a bite to eat for lunch on a weekday. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant so we were able to be seated right away. For my meal, I decided to go with the daily special, which included several types of meat, including chicken. Most of the meats were alright, but the chicken was served VERY RAW. It was so raw, that I could tell even before cutting into it that it was going to be raw. When I let the know about the raw chicken, they offered to refire it and brought it back on the same plate and with the same utensils. Needless to say, I did not attempt to eat the chicken as it look like it had been fully charred and I got new utensils as well. When it came time for the bill, they charged full price for the dish, which is just unacceptable and were not apologetic about it at all. CHICKEN SHOULD NEVER BE SERVED RAW and it should definitely not be charged for if it is.

We stopped here for a classic Belgian breakfast experience…read more I started with a macchiato it was a great way to start the meal. For breakfast I ordered de croque libanon. It was décousu - it was similar to a wrap stuffed with cheese and bacon. It was accompanied by a side salad with a light dressing. Delicious! It's a great little cafe to visit while you're in town.

The beef tasted as it was beaten to make it tender. The fish had strong oily scent and taste. What was peculiar is that the plates were served with a cover, like the food needed to be covered up? In any case, I would not recommend this restaurant in particular when taken into consideration the steep prices. Back then it was a thriving restaurant and one of the places to be in Antwerp if you were looking for a good steak. I am not sure if it is me who has changed or the restaurant but I have been traveling more to good steakhouses all over the world and I found my last visit to De Veehandel unimpressive vs some other of my faves. The starter (Tomate Crevette) was taste-wise not bad but presentation was a bit sloppy. Also the steak is just a-ok, nothing special. In addition, I feel like the service is just average. All-in all just a meh experience. Nothing much to complain but I wasn't wowed either. I really think De Veehandel has had it's best days and there are better places to eat steak in Belgium.

We spent 100's of Euros and ordered 4 different cuts. Not one was what it supposed to be. The rib-eye was a gigantic piece of black fat with a small bit of dry pink flesh attached. The' fillet pure' which should be the tenderest part of beef was a 39 euro piece of chewy old rump steak. An atrocious experience.

Made a reservation online and my seat at the counter facing the hot kitchen was ready upon arrival. Service throughout the evening was cordial. I loved the open kitchen concept along with the "window" that the staff would open when speaking with diners. Back of the house staff wore a uniform t-shirt and some wore a glove? Opted for the Bib Gourmand menu and started off with the duck pate. Wasn't a big fan of the pate as it had a different texture along with some chicken liver...perhaps it's an acquired taste? The table presentation had sourdough along with some soft butter. The bread was also lackluster... Opted for the pork as the main course and loved how it was still pink on the inside! The pork was put on the grill so I'm pretty sure it was cooked as it was warm in the middle. The pork itself was flavorful and seasoned with merely a bit of pepper. The mashed potatoes on the bottom were decent too. The veal tongue bits and the sauce was pretty salty and the sauce was a touch too over-powering...bummer. Meal ended off with the ice cream which I didn't quite understand as it felt like it came from a soft serve machine along with a cookie from a pre-packaged box... did I just walk into Denny's?!? Water was 4 Euro 50. 46 Euro 50 for dinner.
