Was visiting in Prince George and needed somewhere to take some family out to eat. We headed to China Cup since it would have options for everyone. You pay upfront before being seated. After that the staff are they're just to clear tables and get alcoholic/paid drinks. We went around 4:30pm on a Tuesday due to some seniors in the group. The food was more or less fresh. Certain items definitely had sat out past their prime, but overall there was a good selection of fresh items. The food quality was what you would expect for a buffet and did vary item to item. The sushi selection was also hit or miss, but the California rolls were actually well constructed and tasted good. What I was impressed with was the cleanliness of the buffet area. I saw staff wiping down surfaces multiple times during our time there. I do with there was a bit more signage and encouragement to use the hand sanitizer considering the shared serving utensils. Pretty standard buffet food. The Gyoza had the texture of leather but it had probably been sitting out for awhile. Other than that, pretty standard, mediocre buffet food for cheap. Can't really complain. read more

When the word "buffet" is in the title, there's really no choice on the matter. China Cup is an enormous establishment, the largest of its kind in town. With at least forty tables and 200+ seats, probably more, it surpasses China Sail by a comfortable margin, a shock even to me. Except that China Sail is a restaurant, while China Cup feels more like gastronomic thunderdome. If you want clarification, I felt more like Blaster than Master on entering. I was shepherded into a line which took me directly to the cashier, confidence boosting. I should claim any tobacco or fruits beings brought into the country while I'm here, at the very least renew my driver's license; that's how detached this place was to an actual restaurant. It does play all the other cards right, booths and tables, low hanging lights. There were a dozen ceiling fans suspended from a furniture store-like ceiling which I wished were actually spinning. After preloading my meal at the counter, I was released onto the gargantuan buffet. I'm honest in that I don't prejudge restaurants, even when the word "buffet" is in the title. Even when I approached the Wal-Mart of smorgasbords, I had a shred of hope that this location, dedicated to this one concept, could improve an experience I usually rate only slightly higher than dental appointments. China Cup gets credit for selection, that's for sure. Basically any non-ethnic Chinese dish you could think of is represented, along with French fries and onion rings, the latter two I avoided. As always, I sampled only small portions in order to properly evaluate as much as possible. The first plate was a disaster. The vegetable roll was half-filled with gray grease, and both the battered chicken and the battered shrimp had more batter than meat. The batter wasn't totally cooked either. Imagine the experience of biting through undercooked batter with the sudden fear about how fit chicken inside was. I've been reviewing these places too long to tolerate this kind of food. I finished the above average wonton, pushed the half eaten roll and battered stumps aside, and fetched another plate. The second helping faired only slightly better. The Szechuan pork was leather and the sweet & sour pork was suede. However, the curried-scented Singapore rice was pretty good as was the peppered beef. I overheard a gentleman ask a passing waiter about the delay in getting the sushi platters filled. Here was I thinking China Taste was unique in this experiment. Although at least served at room temperature, the rolls were only comprised of pickled and preserved vegetables rolled in rice and drizzled with mayonnaise (how elitist of them). One bizarre inclusion was the deep-fried ebi roll, which was spicy and might have been good if it didn't have the texture of a racquetball. The yam tempura was at least crispy. The laziest dish of them all was the selection of puddings and tarts for dessert, which amounted to lazy spoonfuls of lemon JELL-O pudding haphazardly dropped into pastry shells (pinch me). The odd praise I could offer was that China Cup looked like a restaurant I might have found in China. A huge expanse of tables and waiters scurrying around. But when I was in China, these places were dim sum which was served at your table. When I go to a restaurant, I do expect to be served. I honestly should rate Chinese restaurants separately from the rest, specifically determined on how long after sitting down I feel compelled to visit a bathroom. With China Cup, along with Taste and Golden Place, it was actually during the meal itself. That's some rocket-powered grease-flavored slurry there. With a solid brick wall separating the buffet from the tables, they must be prepared for when an 800 lb. fat guy stumbles after having a heart attack from his sixth serving of brown-flavored meatballs. I wonder what it says about me, at least from the perspective of waiters and other customers. Don't I have better places to be than clatter at my keyboard alone in a massive Chinese restaurant? I actually felt pity for the lone gentlemen across the way that enjoyed...no....consumed his meal quietly and answered the waiter's query with "wonderful". well im not going to write a whole novel like my fellow yelper chris d... : ) but i do like china cup buffet even though i only give it 2 stars.. this place can be a hit and miss a lot of the time... my recommendation is go when the food is just brought out because if you go a few hours after the food gets to the smorgasbord it gets a bit spoiled and dry... but they do have a wide selection of meals.. like every buffet restaurant it's best to go hungry and get your moneys worth... plenty of parking and comfortable seating inside so no need to reserve seats... would i go back? yes read more

Glassware not clean. Manager rude. The server asked us what we wanted to drink, but never brought anything to our table. This was not a big deal. Since it is a buffet, my dinner guest grabbed us drinks from the soda fountain instead. She was about to take a sip when she noticed lipstick on her glass. She does not wear lipstick. The last patron to drink from the cup had left the impression of their lips in hot pink on both sides. I told her to let the staff know, thinking someone would come and apologize. My guest told a server who said they would tell the manager. No one came or said anything. Meanwhile my guest would not touch the food on her plate. I had eaten about half of what was on my plate when she had noticed the dirty glass and lost my appetite as well. We went to the front and I asked for a manager, the server was very polite and went to get this woman. The manager came out and asked what was wrong I explained and she asked what I wanted done. I said my guest wouldn't eat her food because of the dirty glassware, which seemed to upset her. She snapped that she would refund one dinner, but not mine. I said that was okay, I wouldn't be back anyways. The manager said their glasses weren't dirty and that they wouldn't serve with dirty dishes. I asked her if she would drink out of it then. She wouldn't answer and instead began saying the cup just needed a wipe because the dishwashing machine missed a spot. Again I asked her if she would drink out of a glass covered in lipstick, but this was ignored. She raised her voice and began repeating the story about the dishwasher. I told her this wasn't my problem and she needs to have her staff be more careful about what goes out for service because that is disgusting to serve people with. The manager became louder and angrier, repeating her mantra on the dishwasher, and denying responsibility. She never apologized, but instead caused a scene at the cash register in front of other customers as she antagonized my guest. It was embarrassing. The manager very grudgingly refunded one meal and I was glad to leave. Terrible management, dirty dishware, would not recommend. read more

There are places people go when desperation and depression set in. For some, it might be to a bar for a drink. For others, it might be to a different vice. But they all end up going to China Cup. It isn't nice seasoned meat or deep fried oil that you smell. It's the unpleasant aroma of the bathrooms that greets your senses as you enter. The bathrooms, which are roughly 75-100 feet from the entrance, become more pugnant and nauseating as you near them. Pay, choose 'booth' or 'table,' then consume. That is the procedure for eating here. Pay almost $16 for lunch and close to $19 for dinner for one adult. Make sure to wipe off the plate so there is no dishwater with your food and check the underside for any stickers or pieces of mystery stuck to it. The amount of food is impressive, with everything, even drinks, being self serve. The food comes in colors ranging from 'beige,' 'tan,' 'light beige,' 'light tan,' and 'egg shell white.' Walking around the serving area, it is difficult to not notice the amount of dirt around the edges of the floor. Or around the counter edges of the islands. Or the very set-and-hardened-and-now-flaking-off food splatters on some of the walls both in the dishing up area and the dining area where the booths are. Or the stains. Play a game with you and your friends next time you're there and look at areas you normally wouldn't look at. For example: under the tables, between the cushions of the booth seats, in the nozzle sprayer of the pop fountain, where you grab the plastic cups from, etc. My favorite of all this is the bathroom. The smell resembles something of a chemical household cleaner, mixed with cat urine and a long haul drivers hemrroid cushion. Avoid having open flames in this place, as how combustible the gas can be is so far unknown. But the best part is the stall graffiti. HANDS DOWN THE BEST PLACE IN PG TO READ AWESOME BATHROOM GRAFFITI! AND THAT IS INCLUDING ALL GAS STATIONS! A truly poetic place with a wide range of literary styles, to both soften and harden the soul. So, if you ever want to let society know "I give up" and want to 'drop a sick rhyme' then go to China Cup. read more
