The owners, Kathy and Fred went above and beyond what you would expect from a little group of cabins in the woods.

"When I grow up, gonna be a scientist of love Love Science"…read more(Todd Rundgren) We didn't stay at the Skagway Inn and we didn't eat a meal in their restaurant. But we did spend a few very enjoyable hours learning about kitchen science, local wildlife, and cooking tips from Chef Tyler. We started off with a tour of their herb garden where so many of their spices and produce are grown. We covered so many interesting topics in Chef Tyler's presentation - the 5 kinds of salmon, The best way to dice an onion, a look at the Alaskan ULU knife, the anatomy of a chef knife, and tips on catching fish. We were offered a cup of coffee or Chag tea. I had never heard of Chag tea, and when we learned it was made from mushrooms I just knew I would try it I did and it was pretty good. We had an interactive and very interesting demonstration on how to use red cabbage to measure PH. We also sampled a slice of bread with a cheese spread, gravlax, and a sprig of dill, and a dish of homemade vanilla ice cream. We also interacted with Carl the owner, and Daniel, our driver. Daniel entertained us with a sleight of hand magic trick. The Skagway Inn is beautiful, their herb garden is very cool, and the personalities we met were fantastic.

Fort Seward Bed & Breakfast - Built in 1904, House No. 1 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and has been a home (however temporary!) for many as a B&B

That didn't happen but this is a beautiful historic home overlooking the ocean. A bed and breakfast is an interesting concept- like a hotel but more intimate (and hopefully you have good downstairs neighbors). Upon arrival, there was a handwritten note that listed breakfast time for the next day and instructions for room keys, which I thought was a little odd at first. The music coming from the house next door was a little much and kept a baby in the house awake well past 11:15. The room was a little different than the website had shown, as I was picturing an ocean view from my room but instead got someone's backyard and a dirt road. (One other thing that might've been helpful would be having a mirror in the bathroom instead of outside the bathroom door- for those of us that can't see without our contacts lol) Ali is just the sweetest inkeeper. Day one breakfast consisted of a shakshouka-like dish (with poached eggs in diced tomatoes), sugared blueberries on top of yogurt, grapefruit, orange juice and tea, kielbasa sausage, pastries, and toast. Day 2 was an egg bell pepper frittata with kielbasa and roasted tomatoes on the side, pastries, raspberry coffee cake, yogurt, and sliced melons. The third day was bacon and egg muffins (aka breakfast in a cup) and toast arranged with a nice garnish of green onion top, a patriotic yogurt with blueberries and strawberries, grapefuit- probably my most favorite breakfast and the recipe easy to replicate. It was also helpful to have a refrigerator and microwave available for use. The porch is great for sharing a cup of tea and a conversation. Breakfast guests were friendly and chatty and came from Germany and all sorts of different places. It helps to get a different perspective on things

The area where the B&B is located is very picturesque and probably the best place to stay in Haynes. The owner purchased the home last year and has been renovating it. The home is quite beautiful with high ceilings, large windows and beautiful hardwood floors. We met both the owner and innkeeper. Both were welcoming and helpful with suggestions about where to eat and making sure that all of our needs were met. I was traveling with my 20-year old son, and my 23 and 27-year-old daughters. We stayed in the two guest rooms on the first floor which have a shared bath. The bedrooms are quite large, one extremely large. The beds were very comfortable with crisp clean linens. The bathroom is recently renovated and spacious. Towels were plentiful. For breakfast, which is included in the rate, we had a choice of a continental breakfast and/or hot breakfast, which on this date consisted of egg frittata, wonderful breakfast sausages and bacon, as well as toast, Danish, yogurt with fruit, juice and coffee. The table was set beautifully by the way. All of this was prepared by the innkeeper. We were very pleased with everything about the B&B and would definitely stay there again.
