I go to the shop in Westbury Village, and love all the gorgeous clothes and toys there. The price range is varied- you can pick a lovely gift up for 50p or £50 so there's something to suit everyone. They also have very knowledgable staff in both shops and they are always on hand for ideas if I need them. There are always lots of toys out for little ones to play with and they are breast-feeding friendly too! They sell lots of well known children's clothes brands such as Frugi, Kite, Pigeon, Hately, Joules and Blade & Rose, I have bought lots of gorgeous dresses for my daughter and everyone asks where they're from and comments on how lovely they are. They also have an online shop so if you're not in Bristol you can still shop here! I love Pickles and Poppets.

I can't imagine shops like these were common in the early 80's, and, in any case, I stained pretty much anything within a two-metre radius, so I can't imagine my mum dragged me around boutiques of this ilk when I was a kid. But they're here now, much to the delight of parents everywhere. Fred and Grace's offers exquisite designer clothing for children under the age of 10, as well as accessories for a range of seasons. Nestled in the Morgan Arcade, it's not as easy to get to as your larger emporium type stores, but if you're in the market for high-quality kids' clothes, definitely stop by here. It beats fighting the crowds at Mothercare on a Saturday!

Having said that - if you fancy buying something lovely for someone's little boy or girl then pop in here you will find bundles cute little designer outfits that you can be certain will not be seen on anyone else (unless they've been here too). I also have to say that the service I received here was second to none.

Both shops have their advantages, but Ten Tiny Toes I've found to be the best for babies. The helpful staff are (thankfully) at hand to guide you through what the best thing to buy your best friend's baby - what will fit, and what's in your price range. Ten Tiny Toes is fairly expensive (I once bought a raincoat for a friend's child for £25!) so it's probably not suitable for everyday stuff, but their products do make great presents.

They obviously cost quite a bit so for the majority of people, Ten Tiny Toes may be a place to come for a special occasion. I came in for something special for my step-neice but I really had no idea what to get. I was a little overwhelmed with the volume of gifts, but the staff were really helpful and were more than understanding and not judgemental when I told them my budget!

I've found some real bargains here: prices are often cheaper than in London charity shops. For instance on a recent trip I spotted ginger jars for £2.50 each. They also have some lovely carved wooden first-hand stuff. Kids mini jigsaws and money boxes with little carved animals on them. Lovely and very reasonably priced. In the back they have a book nook. It has to be described that way: nice neat shelves and a central padded bench were you can sit and read if you wish. The staff are friendly, and I defy anyone not to find something of interest.

I had to buy a present for my cousin and know literally nothing about kids, so armed with only a vague estimation of age and approximate 'hand height' and stats I braved it. Luckily the woman behind the till was more that happy to offer advice, inspiration and expertise and helped me pick out something that was a) Very cute ("do these come in grown up sizes?") b) Fitted properly. The result was coming away with a really awesome little cardigan/dungarees and looking like I really knew what I was doing when I presented it to my uncle. Wins all round then.
