After having children enrolled at Childcare Network on and off for nearly 18 years, I am extremely disappointed by how our family--and other working families--were treated.
Throughout the summer, the center continued collecting "Adventure Camp" payments, yet the children did not take a single field trip. They also spent approximately a month in the facility without functioning air conditioning. As one of only two facilities in the Swansboro area that accepts child care vouchers, Childcare Network knows that many families have very limited options. As a foster parent, the child care subsidies are the only financial assistance that is available from the state. Parents like me continued sending our children because we needed child care in order to work, even when the services provided fell far short of what that were being paid for.
Then, just three days before school started, we were informed that the center would no longer provide transportation to White Oak Elementary School. Working parents were left scrambling to find care with virtually no notice and very few alternatives. After an entire summer of continuing to accept our payments despite the lack of advertised activities and adequate air conditioning, what we received in return was no child care at all when school began.
Childcare Network advertises itself as "the working parent's best friend," but that was not our experience. Working parents need reliability, reasonable notice, honest communication, and basic customer service.
