Walking from church to church in Lugano was so much fun. Loved the architecture and frescoes in each unique church.
Chiesa di San Rocco was first built as a basilica in the 500s as a medieval church known as San Biagio. San Rocco was built 1000 years later in the late 1500s as an offering for deliverance from the plague. The beautiful frescos were added in the early 1600s. The neo-Baroque facade was added in 1910. 1500 years of history within the walls.
The frescoes are so beautiful. Imagine not being able to read, but being able to see the biblical stories painted on the walls.
It was interesting how there were informational signs outside of the churches in Lugano. Nice to be able to learn more about their history.
