It's been a long time coming for this review. I got married in 2024, but this husband and wife duo company deserves some praise! Chris and Diep are friendly, professional and very hardworking. I will admit there were many times I was going through a rollercoaster of emotions during the wedding planning for process including hiring a photographer for my pre-wedding shoot. I have been doom scrolling, searching Facebook groups and I've been on social media searching all over the place. I am thankful that Diep came across my post and introduced her and her services to me. She was at the time still new to wedding planning. Her and her husband Chris offer wedding photography, rentals, hair and makeup services too! I'm a very picky person and an over thinker. With that being said, I was looking for "perfection" or at least something close to perfection as we all know "perfect" doesn't really exist. I booked a shoot with Chien & Buffle and honestly, I keep looking back at my photos just admiring them. They really captured the love between my husband and I. I still get compliments on the photos. My husband loved my solo pics so much that he has one of them as his phone's wallpaper. We even ordered canvases of some of our favorite shots! We shot at San Francisco City Hall & The Palace of Fine Arts. It was actually one of the funnest days for me. I love dressing up and getting pretty pictures taken. I'm glad I took a leap of faith and went with Chien & Buffle. I must admit, I know I'm not the easiest person to work with. Heck, I might have even been one the toughest clients that Chien & Buffle had to deal with, but I am glad that the team was patient with me and accommodating. The photoshoot was fun, my husband and I aren't the best at posing for photos, but Diep and the photographer guided us on how to pose. I also saved many Pinterest poses for inspiration. Diep was prepared by saving those photos and reviewing them to make sure I was able to get as many of the poses I liked as possible. Of course other non-Pinterest inspo pics were taken as well. Diep is very detail oriented. If the veil or dress is out of place or there's some fly aways, she will step in and and do her best to adjust/fix those things so that the pictures come out as best as possible. The editing came out really nice. I love how Chien & Buffle offers sneak peeks. I'm always anxious to see the final photos. Having a sneak peeks helps distract me from when the final photos are going to be done haha. I was so excited to share these with friends and family! Chris really took his time to edit the photos like removing people from the background, removing fixtures, retouching the skin. A lot of my insecurities went away after seeing the final version of the photos. I will say that communication is extremely important. Some people might not like super re-touched photos and that's okay. Chien & Buffle can adjust to your unique situation/requests. Speaking of communication, I was unaware at the beginning that the beauty mark on my left shoulder was going to be photoshopped out, and that the height of my husband, father and brother were going to be made taller via editing. After I addressed my concerns with Diep and Chris, they made the editing adjustments back to normal height. I wasn't sure if they saw height an issue, or my beauty mark as an imperfection, but it's part of my identity. I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding. Most girls prefer their significant other to be taller than them. I however didn't mind that my husband is slightly shorter than me. I didn't want my husband to think I requested the height adjustment/photoshopping in the photos and make him feel insecure so that's why communication is so so important. Overall, I am happy with the photos. Looking back, I do wish I had more city hall photos. It's just so beautiful there!! I highly recommend Chien & Buffle. Diep and Chris are very talented. I had a really DISAPPOINTING experience with Diep that I still regret a year later--especially after spending almost $500 on a hair and makeup trial that went so poorly I didn't end up booking her for my actual wedding. Before the trial, I specifically asked if she had experience with the hairstyle I wanted. She assured me she did--but during the appointment, she ended up watching tutorials on how to do it and still didn't get it right. The makeup was also a letdown. I asked for a soft glam look, but the result was heavy and unflattering, with overly thick, dark brows that didn't suit my features at all. Something I've always wanted to learn was how to do my make up. Learning how has always been on my mind, but I was putting it off until I had more time and money. For the new years I decided to finally bite the bullet and invest in myself, and boy did I feel like it paid off. I learned so many tips and tricks for make up. She showed me how to properly apply my make up, what tools she recommends using and provided feedback for each step, where she did the step first on one half of my face and then I did the other. She was also very up to date with the latest popular styles in Asian right now. Now just a heads up, these lessons focused on make up application, so we didn't delve too much into colors. Not that we didn't use them, but the focus was on how to apply eye shadow or lipstick. One of the things that I loved learning was how to contour. I really really struggled with this at home. I think she did an incredible job of showing me what part of the face to apply and different popular styles of application and how much to blend. Now since I had two lessons I was able to try two different "looks". We did a more natural look and a more glam look. I was able to try different foundations and eye pallets and moisturizers which was great. Color matching was not a huge part of the course since she is a professional, I learned that they do mix foundations to get the exact color they need, something I'm not going to be doing at home but was very cool to see. That being said I was able to see what brand and texture of foundation I liked since I got to try two different ones, one with each lesson. She also incorporated make up I have on hand showing me how best to apply the make up I already own. She was readily able to answer every single question I had, explaining why we do things one way or another. I ultimately learned so so much from her and I would totally do it again. And I did it in a fun and engaging environment. After her lessons I literally bought some of the products she uses so I could keep practicing. I believe I spent about $500 for two lessons. If you're reading this review as a couple searching for a photographer/videographer/HMU team, I'm telling you now that your search is over. Diep and Chris are it. As a bride, looking for someone to capture the wedding (and also looking for someone who would help me look my most beautiful) gave me the most anxiety. At the end of the day, the pictures and videos would be the only things we had to look back on, so it was of the utmost importance to us to find a team that would beautifully encapsulate our day. Enter Chien and Buffle. I had initially found them because I was searching for a HMUA that was skilled specifically in bridal Asian makeup. Diep is not only one of the very few MUA in the Bay Area with this specialization, but her work is by far the most stunning. She knew exactly how to accentuate my features without overpowering or aging my face with heavy, Western-style makeup. Ultimately, I wanted to look like the best version of myself while still recognizing my own face in the mirror. She perfectly accomplished that beautiful, fresh, dewy look that I've always wanted. To top it off, I was actually really sick on my wedding day and she made me look as if I was in the best peak condition of my life. I'd slept poorly for weeks, was on a bunch of medication that made me feel horrible, AND had started my menstrual cycle that morning. When she found out that I had started my period, she immediately texted her husband and asked him to bring every period product imaginable to the hotel. On top of ALL of this, because we had booked their all day, red diamond package coverage, Diep stayed with me for a large majority of the day and was constantly fixing my hair and makeup to ensure I looked perfect for every picture. This is NOT something that is industry standard by any means. Most HMUAs are done with services after completing the bridal services in the morning and they'll leave a touch up kit. The pricing was more than reasonable and the value for what services we received was unlike anything else we were able to find in this area. Chris is the videographer in this team-- we just received our wedding video last week and I can't even put into words how extraordinary his storytelling capabilities are. The video perfectly captured us as a couple and our story. He made it personable, incorporated music that was special to us, and found a way to weave the ceremony into the background of the video, while still making it the heartbeat of the entire work. TL;DR - decent makeup, push back on what you request, miscommunication on pricing, and unfortunately unfriendly/defensive service the day of :/ I want to start off saying Diep seemed sweet during the trial. I really debated writing this or not because I know Diep is relatively new at this but after a few weeks of contemplating my experience I figured I should give my honest experience so others aren't surprised... My trial with Diep started off pretty well, she was extremely friendly and did a face mask and moisturizer to start. As it went on, she told me my eyes were uneven and that it would be better with double eyelid tape, which I told her I was OK to try. Eyelid tape aside, I thought the makeup was pretty, but there was trouble with applying falsies on my eyes and my eyes got extremely irritated; despite that she left it as is until Chris, her husband suggested making it more comfortable for me (I really appreciated this). Onto the hair, I asked for an updo and she told me after attempting it that my hair won't look good with my peekaboo highlights so she switched to hollywood waves instead which I obliged too, but was truthfully disappointed because the reference photo I shared vs I looked like was different. Prior to the day of the wedding banquet, we had chatted about adding make up services for my mother and mother in law (we chatted about this a few months prior) - a few days prior she told me I didn't add it and would need to charge me her increased rate but offered to lower it slightly as a compromise. I showed her screenshots of our conversation where we had discussed and agreed to add my mother and mother in law, but decided to agree to the new rate as I wanted to support her as she built out her business. If it had ended at that, it would have been a 4 star review instead of 3, so why the 3 stars? Unfortunately it was due to how she treated me the day of my wedding. She didn't do any prep or anything, she didn't do the face mask she did for the trial. While she was doing my make up, it wasn't how it looked like during the trial and my friend had pointed out that one eye had more brown than the other, I could immediately sense Diep was irritated as she went silent and wasn't as talkative. I went to look at my makeup later and noticed my blush was much deeper than the trial and my face was patchy from the foundation...I was really sad to start off my wedding day to say the least. Onto my mom, Diep was very short with my mom and didn't communicate much on how she was doing my mom's hairstyle, after my mom requested something different, Diep implied she would need to redo it all over again and didn't want to do that. For context she had told me she was doing a collab shoot so I tried to be mindful of that, but I did notice she was rushing and kept an eye on the time. In the end, I even helped her pack up, carry her items, and tipped her. It was an extremely sad experience because she was very cold and unaccommodating. Located in LA, I didn't have time for a trial, but Diep made me feel like I could trust her 100%. Diep did the makeup for me, my sisters, and my mother on my wedding day. I had never had a good experience with professional makeup and don't wear a lot of makeup myself. The past couple of times I had makeup applied on me by a MUA, I looked like a clown, with how heavy and unnatural it was. I hadn't had time to do a trial with Diep so I was nervous about how it would turn out. After Diep finished with my sister (the first to get in the chair) though, all my fears were gone. She did an amazing job at giving us beautiful, natural looks that enhanced our features but still made us look like ourselves. My wedding started super early in the morning so I had to wake up at 4:30AM to get hair and make up done. Diep showed up on time to set up and prepare everything. I booked Chien&buffle hair/makeup service for my city hall civil wedding. Diep did an amazing job on my hair and make up. I met up with her at 7am and she welcomed me to her place. She first put a moisturizing sheet mask on my face and prep my face before putting make up on. I have very dry skin but she moisturized very well so the make up looked great and lasted the whole day without caking or peeling. My hair was still curl after walking outside in the wind as well. I just want to say? Wow. Chien & Buffle were incredibly communicative, kind, went above and beyond, and it felt like I was working with friends, not with some random people I employed for my wedding. At first, I only wanted to receive hair and make up for myself, but a tragedy struck my family early on in my wedding planning process. Because of that, I had to delay everything by a couple of months. However, Diep and Chris honored their quoted prices to me and even remembered me almost a year later. When I inquired about their photography and videography services, I found that their prices were out of range for me, however Chris was able to help me customize their packages that fit both with what I wanted and within my budget. Diep was also both experimental but also listened to my whims and requests. She made sure that the looks I referenced matched with my skin and face frame. I felt beautiful in her care. The two were kind, attentive, and strove for perfection. I was so impressed with their work ethics- they are clearly very proud of their product and are incredibly accommodating with my requests. Their personalities meshed incredibly well with my entire wedding party and even managed to charm my difficult-to-please mom (Diep is an angel). I keep using the work "incredible" but that's just what they were. They were flexible, doubled as wedding coordinators on the day of, kept with the timeline, and I felt like I could trust them with so much. They worked well with the rest of the vendors, I heard nothing but compliments about them throughout the entire night, and they stayed further than their contracted time to make sure that the night ended well. I am truly grateful that I met both Chris and Diep, but also their helping hands Markus and Parmveer. The made my day, night, and planning process a fun and comfortable experience.
