When we bought our home a few years ago we were advised by our home inspector to replace the existing roof within 3 years because it was at the end of its life. After doing some research we decided to go with a metal roof instead of a shingle roof (which is what we originally had). We met with several roofing companies before selecting Chief Roofing to install a new metal roof and half-round gutters on our home. Destin answered all of our questions prior to installation and guided us in our decision-making process in regards to the gauge, type of metal, maintenance needs, as well as patiently walking us through the steps that we would be going through during the installation process. We were grateful for his expertise because let's face it--we aren't experienced when it comes to roofing and there was a lot to learn! Plus we had a ton of questions because we like to understand as much as we can about improving and maintaining our home, and with such a large financial transaction we felt confident that we were in good hands with Chief Roofing. And fortunately we were correct! The installation process went smoothly and we are very happy with the end result. A few months after installation there was an issue where some water had gotten into a bathroom exhaust fan and Destin ensured that it was all taken care of at no additional cost to us. So even though they had already been paid for installing our roof and gutters, Chief Roofing still went above and beyond to make things right for us, which involved re-installing a new fan, fixing our ceiling, and giving our interior a fresh coat of paint. I have used chief roofing for 4 houses over 10 years and you can't go wrong with them. I will not even look at anyone for my roof, attic fan, and gutters! You may find someone cheaper but you also get what you pay for! The service they provide has saved me over the long run on closing cost/inspections when the inspector says the roof needs replacement or repair. chief responded with an estimate to repair which was less than the inspector. I just used them for a complete replacement of our home and could not be happier! 3rd generation family business who pays their employees a good wage! many of the employees have been with them 10-20 years and have certified training. Not as good as they say they are. We were given quite the sales pitch when looking for quotes for our roof. The owner promised the world and how professional his crews were. We were told that we would be on the schedule 2-4 weeks after we paid the deposit. Well 3 weeks after the deposit I called to see when they were coming out and they claimed they never got the deposit. When I proved to them they not only got the check but they cashed it weeks ago, we were then told 2-4 weeks out because they forgot they got the check. We got them out earlier and it was a rush job. They promise to run magnets all over the job site to get the nails. They left trash behind. We found nails in our pool and several in the driveway. When I called the owner, he said be happy that's all you found. HUGE difference in personality when quoting and once he has your money. I would look elsewhere. read more

I recently met with three different roofing companies after finding out that we had roof damage. Chief Roofing was the final company I met with and ten minutes into my conversation with the owner, Melvin, I knew I found my roofing company. Melvin was the only one to tell me that my gutters were incorrectly installed, potentially causing water damage to my soffits. He was the only one to mention that my satellite dish was nailed through the roofing deck, something that should never be done, as this could cause a leak down the road. After detailing their installation process at length - and telling me how most companies don't handle the installation correctly, either because of lack of knowledge or experience, or to take shortcuts along the way - I had total confidence that my roof would be installed the right way. Additionally, Chief Roofing is right here in Hillsborough and has been in business for more than 30 years. All of the roofers told me that my landscaping would be a mess when they were done - when I expressed concern about this, Melvin had the crew throw all of the old roofing material over the back, avoiding this issue. When they were finished that night, my yard and beds were immaculate - you would have never guessed I had my roof replaced that day. A neighbor who used a different company found literally hundreds of nails in his lawn and beds with a magnetic nail finder. I borrowed his finder and after searching for more than an hour, found only a small handful of nails in my beds. About the damage, because I had storm damage to one shingle, and this shingle couldn't be replaced (defective CertainTeed Horizon shingle like many in the neighborhood), my insurance company replaced the entire roof. read more

Chief Roofing looked at the roof of one of my rental homes. It had been reroofed before I bought it and leaked a lot. Chief pointed out several deficiencies and made several relatively minor repairs that fixed the problems. I needed a new roof on my own residence and quotes from a couple of highly rated companies. Chief Roofing gave me a good price. It's winter, and it took a while for the shingles to come in and for there to be time to do the job. This week they did the whole roof in two days. I'm very happy, with one exception--in one of my gutters I found a lot of debris that they overlooked when they were cleaning up. It's a great roof! read more

We had a leak in our roof around the chimney, so I found Chief Roofing thru some good recommendations on NextDoor. I called and an estimator came out a couple days later. The invoice for a deposit was transmitted quickly, I paid online (an easy and convenient payment option}, and the roofer was here 2 days later. He worked for several hours, custom crafting a chimney cap, and repair was completed that day. A few days later, our area had that huge rainstorm, and there were NO LEAKS! Chief roofing recently replaced the 25 year old roof on my house and did excellent work. Their bid price was competitive based on other bids I received. Marco and his crew were obviously very experienced in their craft. The job was performed in a single day and after cleanup the yard and driveway looked better than when they came. I searched the yard and was only able to find one stray nail. I have no gutters and unusual fascia configuration which caused some confusion with the use of drip lip and appearance. Marco and I discussed the issue and were able to come to a solution. I recommend Chief roofing for roofing replacement work. read more

Beware of this company. I have Select Home Warranty and they sent Chief Roofing to come out and replace 2 shingles. The home was recently inspected and the roof had no leaks and was in good repair. The tech came to the door and simply said he was there to replace the shingles. This was to be covered by my warranty for a $60 service charge. On the next day, I received a bill from Chief Roofing for $402 due in 4 days. When I called Select Warranty, they told me that because Chief Roofing stated that they repaired a leak, the repair was not covered. At no time did the tech ever inform me of any leak before he started the work, and he never informed me of a leak when he told me he was done. Actually, I think a leak repair would have taken longer than the 20 minutes that the tech was at my home. I thought there was something suspicious because other than the tech letting me know that he was there and telling me he was done, there was no other conversation. When I asked him who I pay the service charge to, he only said I would receive a bill. I really feel like this type of thing is standard practice for this company. I highly DON'T recommend them ever. I am now seeking legal advice because I am being billed for service that I did not authorize. read more

We recently sold our home here in Hillsborough and the inspection report identified some roof items that needed to be corrected. I never used a roofer before so I went to the internet and was lucky enough to find Chief Roofing Inc. I called, spoke to Janet, explained my urgent need and the next day Mr. Melvin Barnes - the owner, came to my house. I showed him the inspection report with photos, he climbed onto the roof and examined the items in the report. Mr. Barnes is extremely knowledgable, kind and a very wise man. After hearing what he had to say he put my wife & I at ease regarding some of the claims in the report. We made a verbal contract for his mechanics to perform minor repairs the following day. He understood that we were short on time. Mr. Barnes himself came to my house that day and performed the work. Mr. Barnes is the founder and owner of Chief Roofing - He has several roofing mechanics working for him but they were either busy or on other jobs. In order to make good on the promise he made to us, Mr. Barnes stepped up and performed the work himself. One of the items was to clear debris off the gutter screens. At the time he made the roof repairs, the blower he needed was on another truck. Mr. Barnes returned later the same day - in the rain - and blew all the debris off the the gutter screens. He also blew debris off our walkways and front and side porches. It is rare nowadays to come across a professional man with the high work ethic of Mr. Barnes. He represents the best of what contractors are supposed to convey - he knows his trade, understands and is sensitive and caring to his customer's needs and goes out of the way to keep his word. We plan to move away but if we were staying I would contract with Mr. Barnes to replace the roof and not even consider another estimate. When performing this type of work it is advisable to avoid the low bidder. Chief roofing is outstanding in every way. Top notch!! read more

I would highly recommend Chief Roofing ! I discovered I had a leak in my roof of 24 years during all the heavy rains and storms we had these past months ! I contacted my insurance agent to check it out. As I suspected it may have been weather related, which turned out to be the case. I also did my due diligence and received 4 quotes from different roofing companies in my local area of Hillsborough. After meeting with each roofer I decided on Chief Roofing to re-shingle my roof over the house and the garage. They did an excellent job ! I met with the owner, Melvin, great person ! He knows the business and has a lot of history and knowledge of the roofing business. Chief Roofing, Inc is a local Hillsborough business that has been here for decades. I met and knew his Uncle when he fixed my roof in my 2nd home. Great guy ! The crew showed up on time each day and were professional and methodical in their approach to the work which was reflected in the result ! They stripped the roof down to the wood, replaced the old tar paper with a better synthetic membrane and with excellent shingles and crown ridge ! The roof looks great ! I also appreciate the extra care the crew did in inspecting not only the work on the roof but also the care and time to slowly walk around the property to make sure all debris, nails, etc were picked up/recovered. Excellent work ! The crew was professional and friendly over the 2 days it took to re-shingle the roof over the house and the 2 1/2 car garage ! The Chief told me I needed a new garage roof when I did not. Removing some leaf debris fixed the problem. Two days after I had signed his contract I thought we had agreed to ignore it, since the old roof was not leaking. A month later I had all but forgotten the incident when the Chief showed up and installed a new garage roof anyway. Of course I am on the hook for a large and unnecessary expense. This company charges low rates because they do cheap, low quality work with cheap, low quality materials. The chief sent out 2 Mexican guys who were not fluent in English and difficult to communicate with to do the repair. It took them all of about 20 minutes and I ended up getting charged an extra 25% for "supplies." Did he not think he would need "supplies" in order to do the job??? Someone who later came by to look at the work confirmed that cheap materials were used and I would be lucky if they held up at all. The owner is a pompous guy with a really bad fake tan who kept bragging about how he had been in the roofing business with his father since he was 5 years old and therefore knew everything about roofs. After talking with some other people, I found out that this guy has a reputation for ripping people off. I would say don't use Chief Roofing unless it is your absolute last resort. read more
