Told me it was on me to call everyday until it comes. Who has time for that. They need better contact with delivery folks. Cancelled my subscription. I tried. I've been a loyal sun-times subscriber for at least 7 years. I've noticed the paper is getting thinner and thinner with mostly sports also less inserts. I finally decided to cancel my subscription May 9th 2023 because customer service had gotten so pushy it was unbearable. Only to find out weeks later they were still billing me for what they refer to as a grace period. ($7). Only to find out that was a trick to start a new subscription. A few weeks later they send me a bill stating My subscription will expire Aug 19 2023! WTF are these people null in void? Nothing but trickery and deception! Stay Away from Sun-Times! read more

Completely awful delivery service and customer service thru the sun times avoid this paper and delivery at all points. Paper will not show up calls to customer service not returned when escalated will not issue refund for missed papers again avoid the paper and delivery service. Is anyone else having a problem with delivery of the Sun Times? I have been making daily calls to the Sun Times to report that I did not receive a paper. On the phone they promise re-delivery within 90 minutes but usually that never happens. When it does, I find my paper thrown on the ground instead of being put into my blue Sun Times delivery box. I have been having delivery problems for several months but recently the problem has become much worse. It has been almost two weeks since I started reporting this problem on a daily basis. When I call the Sun Times to complain, my complaints are forwarded to the route supervisor for re-delivery of my paper. Sometimes, the next morning I find yesterday's paper thrown on the ground under the empty Sun Times delivery box, but usually nothing happens. After my last two calls, the agent escalated my problem report to the Sun Times Home Delivery department. Nothing has happened. It would be nice to know that someone in the Sun Times home office is dealing with the problem. No one in the Home Delivery department has contacted me and the problem continues. read more

I would recommend passing on this paper. They have major service problems. We haven't received our paper for a week. We have called in every day and told it would be delivered and it never has. Our non-delivery issue was even escalated and nothing happened. Then you have to call back a second time for credit. We finally had enough and called to cancel. We were told we would not get a credit for our remaining balance and would just be out our money. They don't advise you of this when you sign up. Apparently you're just supposed to know it's on their website! In other words they're practicing theft of services. They just take your money and don't deliver and there's nothing you can do about it. read more

The Chicago SunTimes have become scam artists. I signed up for a weekly newspaper with a digital subscription in March, I paid upfront. at the end of April I called reporting that I never received a paper. I got one skinny paper with no inserts. The entire time I responded to emails saying I wasn't getting delivery, apparently those went nowhere. I constantly received sales calls and reminder emails to renew my subscription, but never received a single emailed headline. the same day I signed up for this paper I signed up for the digital Tribune. I'm emailed headlines daily sometimes twice a day. Haven't received one call or email asking for renewal. SunTimes told me it was my job to call them every week to complain that I wasn't receiving my paper. Therefore I get no refund. I'm sure I'll have to endure scam calls for the next year asking me to renew and upgrade and make another donation. read more

I like the Sun Times. I always have, I guess I am just one of those terrible liberals. They have some good columnists that I enjoy and some very interesting opinion articles. I subscribe to the print edition but I am very disappointed to discover that they apparently have no one in the customer service department on weekends. I tried twice, in the last month, to call and report a missing/damaged and unreadable paper. Guess what? No answer other than their automated response. if you choose Customer Service it only loops back to the original message. If you choose any other, the same happens except if you choose operator. That rings and answers with another recording saying the person at this extension isn't available. I don't know if the same happens on week days. I've only tried on weekends. Maybe I should try the Tribune instead. Maybe they can afford to hire human beings to run their offices. read more

The new subscription options to choose from are very convenient and low priced. I was able to pay the full 12 week option upfront instead of paying monthly. Incredible. The Sun-Times customer service group handling internet/digital questions is beyond the pale. Tired of being able to access the paper's digital offering only from my desktop and not my Kindle or cell phone, I called to see if I could get access through all of my devices. I called the help line on Monday, Jan 2nd. From the conversation, it appeared to be a password issue. That led me to believe it wouldn't be a huge hurdle to overcome. After more than an hour on the phone and the matter being escalated to a manager, Erin, there was still no resolution. They reset the password several times, eventually said it worked on their end, but the passwords they provided never worked on my Kindle. Since I had to pickup a relative at the airport near the lunch hour, I asked if we could continue later in the day or Tuesday, the following day. Erin said she would notify me by phone or email with progress information. I did not receive any information that Monday or the following Tuesday. I called too late (after 3pm) to reach anyone on Tuesday but did call again Wednesday morning to get an update. Elijah answered the phone and as far as I could tell, the conversation was going well enough. I updated him on the problem, he confirmed what I was saying with his notes and said Erin wouldn't be in for another half hour. I said I wouldn't mind talking to another manager since Erin never followed through on her commitment to return my call. He said he'd try to reach another manager. He also speculated on why I was having these access problems, saying perhaps I should only go through the app and not use my browser. I didn't understand the need to download and go through an app when it wasn't necessary to go through apps for the three other digital newspapers I subscribe to. When I raised this point, the line went quiet and seconds later I heard busy tone. I had been hung up on. There had been no shouting, no swearing. When I called back, went into queue and entered my call back number, no one followed through with a return call. Of course, I'll cancel my subscription. This treatment negates any positive the newspaper may represent for the city or for journalism. I still have to wonder why the paper offers options they can't or won't support and why they employ people or contractors so ill equipped to handle questions from the public? read more

So sad is the slow demise of this paper. I think that I have seen Chinese restaurant menus that are bigger than this paper now. If you are taking the train into work, read it then and if by chance you find something that interests you, go ahead and check it out on the Internet when you get to work. The paper is reading more and more like a tabloid magazine all of the time. You will get all of your scandal updates and celebrity news in full detail. If you are looking for a bit more depth and detailed reporting than another publication should be in order. On a brighter note, they still do a very good job of Sox and Bears coverage. read more

I'm a longtime reader of the CST's! Love the magazine style format! The newspaper business has been in turmoil for many years. I'm a business owner and been in Corporate America in a leadership role for many years. This is a classic case of taking folks who are great news persons and promoting them into a leadership and management roles that make critical decisions on the strategic direction of the company! Big Mistake! The format changes are terrible, the content changes less than appealing, the business section is as bad as it's ever been. I've attempted to advertise in the paper and found the experience one of the worst I've ever had with a vendor. My wife was enticed to assist a charity and signed up for Chicago Sun Times delivery. This was in March 2020. As of December 24, 2020 we had not received a single newspaper to our residence as agreed to. A phone call reached a Supervisor by the name of Shelley alias Ext# 145 * She states that no refunds are allowed. $16.00 a month ten months and not a dime refund. How come the Tribune didn't report on the fire put out by a woman's "XL undies," the cops who "went ape trying to find diapered monkey," the man who "did dental work in dirty garage," the man who was mugged while proposing, the robber who stopped to lick his victim's toes, Illinois' worst toll cheats, the skunk with its head stuck in a salad dressing bottle, the "naked truth" about the man who stripped a burglar nude, the couple who performed surgery in their "filthy home," the kidnappers who tortured their victim with burns from fresh baked cookies, the minister who stole the wedding rings, or the 3+ page feature on the city's worst parking ticket scofflaws? Every time I get a free issue of the Tribune, or momentarily lose my senses and buy a copy, I regret it immediately. It's boring and unwieldy--half a pound of dull news and egghead columnists. Give me Robert Feder and Ask Ellie! I have to deduct one star for Dining with Pat Bruno, though. This guy's palate and writing style seem to be stuck in 1985. Enough with the fancy Italian places! I give the paper only a single star because of the lack of functionality of their PressReader online edition. This is what I wrote in an email to the Sun Times about this issue: I am considering cancelling my subscription to the Chicago Sun Times because of the lack of functionality of your pressreader online paper. When I click on the link provided in the email I get every morning, the PressReader addition loads but is horribly dis-functional. It takes forever to load a story, if it ever does, and often does not allow toggling between stories. I have a Mac Powerbook that operates with the Mojave 10.14.5 OS. I use the Chrome browser - Version 75.0.3770.142 (Official Build) (64-bit). In addition, many mornings I do not receive the email from you with the link. All of this should be easy; it should not require m to do anything but click the links and read the newspaper. And, fyi, when I read online the other papers I subscribe to - Chicago Tribune, New York Times and Los Angeles Times - I don't have any issues. No acting all non-chalant with some boring foreign policy story on the front page like the Trib. As my dad observed, "I like the Sun-Times because it's more of a working-class paper." I concur. I signed up for a 4 week delivery from a girl who was raising money. I called the day before my subscription would automatically be renewed in order to cancel. A couple days later I noticed they charged me another $10. I called them and was told they would refund me in 7-10 business days. The time came and they only refunded me $4. I called and I was told there was a $6 fee to cancel!!!! Really?! So I tried to help this girl raise money and the Sun Times took advantage of that. Horrible way to do business. Beware their billing department. I'm not going to discuss the paper, just their billing. I was a long time subscriber to the Sun-Times. Once or twice a year, I'd call them up and pay for six months or a year at a time. Each time they assured me that they would not enroll me in autobilling where they unilaterally take the money out of your bank account. This year, they unilaterally withdrew six months to a year's worth of billing. I called them up. They promised me I'd get my money all back and they'd send me a bill instead. They were very apologetic. I have to call them a second time. Finally, I get a partial refund because they say they are holding a month's money as payment for next month. I tell them, forget about it. Cancel the paper. They promise to refund all my money. Weeks go by. Nothing. I write them. Nothing. I contact them again. Finally they say I have to wait two more weeks for my money. Think I'll get it in two weeks? Hah! What a way to treat a good customer. read more

Sometimes I think the Sun-Times is on an anti-Latino crusade. They were consistently and rabidly abusive to Elvira Arellano, and constantly pit Black writers against Latino immigrant subject matters, and their letters page broadcasts a lot of racial hatred, mostly from white readers. This is also a paper that likes to pretend it gives a South Side and/or Black voice, but I see op-ed after columnist giving views that I don't hear from those sectors. And some of those pieces read almost like classic attempts to cause divisions between Blacks and Latinos, or within the Black community. read more

A few years back, the big question in Chicago was should I read the Red Eye or Red Streak!?!? The Chicago Sun Times entry into the fluff newspapers was named for the red streak that appears at the end of a printing of paper. Good to know, but mostly it implied something gross. The Red Streak lacked the cool edginess of its competitor. They also missed the mark on big Chicago stories and went ahead with already horribly written pieces that would appeal to a young crowd. Even at the time of the Chicago Red War, I knew that its competitor would win out. Red Streak was the politician who campaigns for the sole purpose of giving the imcubment some competition. read more

The content of the Sun Times tends to be lighter/fluffier than the Tribune, but I appreciate it's easier-to-handle tabloid format. Really, both the Sun-Times and Trib are lightweights compared to a paper like the New York Times, but I tend to like the Sun-Times' coverage of local news stories, and I personally prefer to be well-informed about what's going on in my backyard rather than buying a paper just for its snob-appeal. The Friday edition is a must-read for me as it includes the Weekend section with Roger Ebert movie reviews. The only day where I much prefer the Trib is the Sunday edition. read more

Their home delivery service is terrible. They single wrap the newspaper in a plastic, unsealed bag, so when it rains, the paper just sits on our driveway and soaks up water, and when we take it out of the bag, it falls out of the bag sopping wet and is unreadable. We then call the Sun times to request that they deliver a dry newspaper, the replacement paper never arrives. There is no amount of complaining that will get the Sun times to fire their lousy third-party carrier service, or get the carrier to double wrap the paper correctly on rainy days to prevent the paper from getting soaked. read more

I would read the Sun Times if they were out of the Tribune and Red Eye. I don't like the way it is formatted and it reminds me of a paper I worked for in Minneapolis which is not a standard news paper. I can't really pull the sections I want to read out of the Sun Times, which is annoying. However, the reporters I work with there are excellent and they get all the stars as they are worth it! read more
