My doctor , Dr Thomas Shoenhofen sent me to Dr. McCall due to the severeness of the injuries caused by the falls. I made an appointment for the first available time nevertheless, the pain, swelling, numbness , tingling and color changes prompted me to ask to be seen by Dr. McCall as a "Walk-In", which is offered to patients unable to wait for an appointment. I was shocked, when the receptionist demanded I pay $350 in order to be put on Dr. McCall's waiting list, because she claimed my Medicare was suspended. I was not only humiliated and embarrassed by the receptionists ( there were 2 of them)., but also spoken to rudely and with no empathy whatsoever in front of a room full of waiting patients. I had no choice but to pay the money because of all the pain, etc. After paying the $350 on my Visa Nordstrom Credit Card and waiting more than 2 and a half hours, Dr McCall did nothing but look at mt leg and say there was nothing he could do to help. He asked if I had a wrap at home my reply was "no". He then wrapped the leg and said to see him in 2 weeks " But only if my leg was not better. I've got three issues going on between two hands -- not fun -- and I had a great experience for my first visit here. Upon walking in, I was quickly checked in by the professional, polite, expeditious front desk staff. Amanda the technician came out to get me within 10 minutes of my arrival -- the office runs on time! Amanda was super-professional, very knowledgeable and experienced, and kept the ball rolling. Dr. Kalainov was quick to arrive to my patient room and was already up-to-speed on my new case, thanks to the front desk, Amanda and Northwestern's MyChart system. He's very friendly and has excellent bedside manner, and is clearlly an expert in his field...He quickly inspected my conditions, asked me questions and answered my questions in lay terms and in detail and left me with no doubt that I was in the right place. He then called Amanda back to take me for x-rays and off I went. She took me to another technician at the down-the-hall (within their offices) X-ray department. The gentleman there was gentle, highly expert in his field, expeditious, and professional. I had quite a few images taken but he made it seem like I was only there for a few minutes. Amanda escorted me back to my room. Within minutes, Dr. K. was back, having already examined the pictures. He addressed each of my three issues and provided in lay terms and details my options and his recommendations. He answered a few questions, and we proceeded quickly with one procedure to eliminate one of my hand problems. I felt nearly no pain, it was over quickly and he explained everything, prognosis, future considerations, etc., in detail. Then, Dr. K. had Amanda take me to the end-of-the-hall prosthetic/brace department where there was a team of four technicians/clinicians each with a different patient getting fit with one kind of brace or another. The technician who cared for me was Hadassah, and she, like Amanda and Dr. K., was so very obviously an expert in her field and provided professional, friendly, thorough, complete care for the issue on my right hand and the brace I required. As I left, the doctor thanked me in passing and Amanda handed me documentation, information, etc. The front desk quickly expedited my check out. Unfortunately my hand woes are not over, but fortunately I'm working with a top-notch surgeon and team!
