    Playlot

Nice asset to have in the neighborhood. Kept relatively clean. Facilities are popular but not as crowded as Winnemac up the street. Best part about the park is the running track, which is relatively new and in great shape. It also does not have the same weird hours that the cinder track at Winnemac does. There is also an acceptable kids playground next to the track that is over rubber. The playlot itself is not fenced in, but it is offset from the road and there is a fence around the entire park. Not a destination park, but worth checking out if you are in the area.

My three little ones loved this park! The whole place is beautiful. There's a great running track and soccer field, multiple playgrounds, a gorgeous pool, a super fun splash pad, etc etc., all by the Chicago River. My kids already can't wait to go back!

2nd time coming here to the splash pad. Really cute family enclosed water area. Kids are having a wonderful time getting soaked by the bucket filled with waterfalls, sprinklers and water shooters from the ground. Perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day.

This is a fairly large no frills gym with a good variety of the equipment you would want, but it…read morehas one fatal flaw: It's overcrowded, particularly if you're looking to do weight training (cardio never seems to be an issue). If you strength train at an off-peak time, say first thing in the morning or late at night, you'll be just fine, but most other times expect to wait to get on certain machines and good luck trying to secure a weight bench or squat rack. A locker room makeover is also much needed. I've seen the membership at this location grow significantly over the years and can't help but wonder what LA Fitness' portfolio strategy is. Since LA Fitness bought X-Sport and then closed their nicest location in the North Side on Broadway in Lakeview, many of those members now come to this location and the infrastructure just doesn't support so many members at peak times. LA Fitness Corporate, I hope you are reading this. There is an obvious solution right in front of you that should have you seeing dollar signs. There is a massive gap in your portfolio in Chicagoland in that you don't have a Signature Club anywhere on the North Side of the city. The Loop downtown or Niles are the closest Signature Club locations. Not only is this location on Lawrence the home club of many LGBT members who likely would be more than capable and willing to pay a little more for a nicer facility and less crowding, the gym could easily expand on the cheap into the former Sears Auto space right next door as it has been sitting vacant for years. Instead, they're competing on the Planet Fitness end of the pricing spectrum with no membership cap in sight. Time to upgrade and expand to a Signature location to give everyone a better experience and reduce overcrowding. It would fulfill a much needed and unmet need in the local market and prevent members who have about had it with the overcrowding from turning elsewhere.

Totally untrustworthy is what it is. And their fees are ridiculous. $99 enrollment fees. They charge $65 per year just to have the membership. Plus the monthly fees, which they want two months upfront. It's beyond irritating. And when you look closely it's not that clean and stuff is busted. I am really turned off by the whole thing.

Another employee named Connor said he would investigate and talk to Heather. Well that investigation was fairly quick. Connor emailed me back immediately stating that my membership was "mistakenly" canceled by Heather. Who mistakenly cancels a gym membership?? What a poor excuse, Connor. And supposedly my card on file was not valid for the month of January 2026. But the same card was valid all of 2024 and 2025 and they sure took my money. I decided to spend my money else where. Do better guys, your poor excuses can lose a lot of customers.

My one issue is the billing department. I pay 75$ a month to have a membership here, and when I got a knee injury that required crutches and a massive heavy metal brace around my leg, my Doctor told me I was not allowed to work out until I was cleared by her as I might need surgery. This did not warrant a good enough reason for them to let me cancel my membership (because I can still do arm workouts according to them). During my four month recovery I was still charged a 15$ fee instead of the entire amount. Then, when I'm finally cleared and ready to get back to the gym my monthly membership charge declined, and I immediately noticed and put enough money in my account to pay for it. To my surprise the next day I got a charge for $98 instead of $75, and when I called they said their reasoning was because there's a service fee if they have to run your card again. A $23 dollar random fee is insane. This company is too focused on making as much money as they can off of each person who joins and honestly I won't be renewing my membership when it's time.

I have been in and out of the gym for nearly two decades now and have had serious commitment issues when it comes to working out at an establishment. I believe that had a lot to do with the gyms I would attend as I could never find what felt like the right fit. This was the first location that I started to feel comfortable and was the most consistent with. It did get busier throughout the year because of the special they offered for teens during the school free months/summer but still had a good experience. I enjoy this location the most because of their friendly staff that stays on top of cleaning and refilling the towel paper dispensers. They also offer hydromassage and LED red light therapy for black card members at this location. Both are a great fit for my body and skin! They also have one of the best gym layouts in my opinion. COMPLETELY different vibes from alternate gyms. Most people attending here are really focused on themselves (me included) and really don't feel so judged as past experiences. Because of the great vibes I'm now down 20 lbs and have been the most consistent I've ever been to date. Can't thank them enough for being the starting point/kick off of self/life 180 improvement. They really deserve so much more credit !

I think I might have been here once when I lived in West Ridge a mile away. They have facilities for baseball, basketball, and soccer, as well as a 9-hole golf course (waaaaay on the northeast side of the park, at the corner of Pratt and Ridge), and tennis courts that double as pickleball courts. There's a path that runs through the park as well so you can walk or job, but I also saw people riding bikes on it when I was here. In wintertime, they have an ice rink. You can play cricket here, racquetball, and there are three playgrounds. The field house is large too. There's a gymnasium and the Northtown Garden Society operates out of here. I was surprised to see the garden club because I had been curious if there was one around here but couldn't find one. I'm sure one of if not their major project is the maintenance of the Warren Park community garden, which is between Western Avenue and the field house. Near the field house, on its south side, is a work of public art that doubles as a place to sit and take a load off. The history of Warren Park is a particularly interesting one and combines the politics of Chicago. The land was once the Edgewater Golf Course, a privately owned course. It was purchased and the community soon learned that the developers wanted to put a high rise and shopping center here. It was indeed re-zoned by the city when community efforts failed, and those groups (called the Allied North Side Community Organizations) appealed to the governor, who signed legislation making it a state park to preserve the open land, calling it the "first major state park in Illinois created in an urban area". The state only purchased about a third of it, though, and the remaining land was still undergoing development, much to the dismay of the surrounding community. Is the end, the Chicago Park District chose to condemn it and turn it into parkland, and the state transferred its property to the city. This park as a very large parking lot, which is good since there are so many activities here. There are bathroom facilities inside the field house as well. The field house and playgrounds are accessible, and depending upon one's accessibility needs other areas of the park may be as well.
