It's old enough to predate the Great Fire, making it one of the few structures to survive. The Chicago Water Tower is still here, kind of looking out of place among the skyscrapers and whatever. Along with the tower is the pump house. Sometimes there will be art galleries and you can get inside. As for the actual structure, it's also a piece of art. It certainly was built sturdy to make it this long. The tower is in the middle of the intersection of Chicago and Michigan, close to many other tourist attractions and the overpriced shopping. A small park also surrounds it. The pump house is across the street, which can't be forgotten about if looking at this historic structure so go take a look at it too. Also there's a popular mall next to here. They have souvenirs and that kind of stuff you can buy there. Going to just check out the outside of it is enough of a reason to look around here. It's also open at certain times for art galleries, or it used to be that is. This is close enough for certain people to walk to from Navy Pier, and just up the street from the shopping and whatever.

By the 1860s, Chicago's water supply was inadequate for its growing population. Near-shore lake water was too polluted to be used because of runoff from the Chicago River. In 1867, Chesbrough, an engineer designed a water supply tunnel system running nearly 2 miles offshore pumped back to shore through this pumping station. Boyington designed both the pumping works building & Water Tower that houses the standpipe. Both buildings were built in the Gothic Revival style with distinctive yellow Joliet limestone. The buildings look like something out of a fairy tale. The Chicago Water Tower was the most iconic structure that remained standing after the Great Fire of 1871. It was a rallying point for the city. It stood as a symbol for a city determined to rise from its own ashes. Sadly at 9 o'clock on a Friday morning homeless filled most of the benches panhandling with all of their belongings.

Long Review: Met a friend for dinner while in Chicago and he said Gibson's was a must. We went on a Thursday night and the place was absolutely packed. Barely any walking room when you entered the bar / check-in area. We ordered drinks in the bar while waiting for our table and it was a scene - a good one. Very vibrant and really friendly people all around. Piano bar vibes with the live playing at your request. Bartenders are attentive and try to get to everyone quickly. Just to give you a sense of how friendly this place is, I accidentally knocked over my glass of wine while reaching for the bill. Caught it though...phew. But not before I spilled it all over the back of the woman sitting next to me, the man to the right of me, and of course all over myself! Within two seconds, a waitress came over with napkins to help clean up the mess, the guy sitting next to me got on the floor and wiped it all up, and the woman whom I spilled the drink all over was like "Don't even worry about! At least you caught the wine glass!" Wow! I was stunned at how cool everyone was, and it set the tone for the evening. We finally got our table and split the Gipson's ribeye, lobster, sweet potato and brussel sprouts. Seriously one of the best steakhouse meals I've ever had. The waitress was so friendly and very knowledgeable about the food. She was perfect. Folks, I highly recommend this place. Tell 'em the girl who caught the glass sent you!

They also had a wonderful person working in the men's bathroom and he was a gem. Our daughter spilled a bit on her shirt and one of the servers had a Tide pen. The negative: for a restaurant where you going to spend over $100 a person, we had to ask twice for water refills, in fact one time we asked the manager and he had to track down our servers. The seating is just ok, it's pretty loud as your on top of each other really. The steak was above average but not great. They seems to char the outside see pictures and it was fairly bland, got the filet. Salad was drowned with dressing and had virtually nothing other than 2 average cheap grape tomatoes. The sides were just ok. I wanted to be blown away as Chicago is "known" for their steaks, the waiter even said they had their own rating. Meh... After eating twice in Vegas this month and getting wagyu I guess I'm spoiled. Go once to get the experience.

It's a long street that runs straight through the heart of downtown Chicago and is near to most of the cool visitor spots and shopping areas. The starbucks roastery is here, and the navy pier and park with the cloud gate statue are very nearby. The free Chicago zoo is on the north end of the mile as well; you could walk if you're in really good shape/like a long walk from the south part of downtown by the river, or you can take the bus etc. The river walk intersection with the MM is very busy, there are restaurants, bars, and lots of foot traffic in this area. Overall it's really nice! Overall, if you're new to Chicago, you definitely have to come to the MM at least once, even if just to go to a couple specific spots.

It's the stretch between the Chicago River…read moreon the south end and Oak Street on the northern end, and is the dividing line between River North (west of Michigan) and Streeterville (east). The southern end, at Michigan and the Chicago River, is the earliest epicenter of Chicago; home to Jean Baptiste Pointe du Sable, the founder of Chicago, as well as Fort Dearborn. Along the mag mile you'll find upscale restaurants, luxury shopping, fancy hotels, and more. There are multiple malls along the strip; The Shoppes at Northbridge are on the south end, and both the 900 Shops and Water Tower Place flank the north end Michigan Avenue. Tiffany, Louis Vuitton, as well as Burberry's flagship store in the United States and the largest Ralph Lauren in the world. There's also a cafe in that store called Ralph's, and I don't know if it's all for the 'gram or they put something in their coffee but it often has a line out the door. Starbucks Roastery, the largest of their stores worldwide, is on the corner of Erie and Michigan. If you are interested in an afternoon tea, you'll want to see if the Drake is hosting. This hotel has the distinction of hosting many heads of state and other dignitaries, including Princess Diana when she visited in 1996. Some of the cultural landmarks of the city are found here as well. Tribute Tower and Wrigley Building are right at the southernmost end of the Mile. 875 Michigan Avenue, more commonly known as the Hancock Building before that company relinquished the naming rights, boasts one of the city's observation decks (I think it's the better of the two). The Chicago Water Tower and Pumping Station, two of the most prominent and among the few buildings that survived the Chicago Fire, are at Pearson and Michigan on opposite sides of the street and the pumping station is a cool place to check out. You can even visit one of the city's ensemble theaters here, as Lookingglass Theatre is located in the lower levels of the pumping station. You might be surprised to find that there's even a playground right off this famous stretch of road; Seneca Playground is steps from Michigan Avenue if you have kids that need to burn off some energy. There's plenty to do that doesn't include spending money, too. You can catch water taxis near the Wrigley Building to visit other areas along the river (well, I guess that does cost a bit of cash). And there are sometimes events along the street, such as the Lights Parade that happens each Thanksgiving weekend or the art installations that are often found in the green planters along the street. If you're visiting, it's certainly worth a visit as you check out Millennium Park or take an architectural boat tour.

For the past decade our building has had to make significant changes due to Life-Safety requirements mandated by the City of Chicago. This has been an extremely costly endeavor for our smaller high-rise building. During this time our condo has had three different management companies - each new one has cost us significant time and money. We've also earned a reputation for being difficult due to select board members/residents who allow their personal agenda(s) and opinions to interfere with the building's well-being as a whole. This resulted in two of the management companies quitting and leaving us in a lurch. Not good. Of the three new companies that we interviewed, TBG was the only one willing to work within our budget and undertake our building's requirements. This means working diligently with Directors, finding creative solutions regarding issues within a 100 year old building, and attending our monthly board meetings (legally they are not required to do this). It takes time for management companies to get to know their buildings. No management company is going to be a 100% perfect fit. Yes, TBG has dropped the ball on some of our smaller issues, but they've been here for the big ones and kept us from bankruptcy. They are here to help us make informed decisions that work within the parameters of our building's need. Thank you Larry & TBG.

I repeatedly informed TBG of the unethical activity that their PM was committing and emailed them hard evidence that codes and laws were being violated, and TBG ignored every single email and let it continue. To make matters worse, the property manager breached confidentiality and gave away my information and other homeowners information to the vendor we were complaining about. This resulted in the vendor filing a frivolous SLAPP defamation suit against me that was immediately dismissed. That property manager has been fired by the new board after the board discovered that a different contractor was using the home address of the property manager as their business address.
