VIBRANT!
This festival was colorful, authentic, and fun! A real celebration of life.
The music was blasting as we walked up, with families enjoying the day and celebrating their heritage. It was mostly a big party, but also it was powerful when they took a few moments to recognize the recent disaster in Haiti, along with those who came before them, and those who are representing their roots today in Chicago.
Not to mention the...
Booths of Caribbean inspired clothes, jewelry, music & more.
Jerk Chicken, plantains, sweet potatoes, red beans & rice.
AND the dance party disguised as a parade! Great costumes too!
The downside? Everyone thought me and my friends were just students from University of Chicago who happened to wander over. But once they found out we came out of genuine interest in their celebration they doubled their welcoming smiles.
