UPDATE REVIEW IN RESPONSE TO ARTBLEND ACCUSATIONS:…read more I am a person of great integrity and compassion. No matter how you try to draw me out as a liar, you will NEVER succeed at that. All those who know me know that my integrity is paramount. I am a community leader and lineage healer of a thousand generations, backed by my ancestors who have travelled the seas and fought against colonizers who oppressed and tried to silence them. I will NOT ALLOW you to do that to me today. So, to be called a liar by saying that I was being untruthful to save the face of your business is seriously uncalled for. Other businesses would have apologized and tried to appease customers such as myself in some way. I may take advantage of it or not. But at least, I received an apology. I received NONE. As an avid Yelper, I have every right to express my own PERSONAL experience with your gallery. I may not be a success story, but at least, I can tell others what happened to me. I also want to encourage artists to believe in themselves enough that they do not need other galleries to see to their own success. Very few fine artists in the world enjoy wealth and notoriety. Yet, many are so talented and go unrecognized. We see the world through our own unique lenses. I honestly believe that these events that exhibit artwork PREY on artists. They PREY on galleries...and galleries such as Artblend pass on the costs to the artists. It is true, it would cost more if we did it on our own to be at these so-called Hampton/New York/Spectrum Shows. ARTISTS, LOOK PAST all the pomp and circumstance of wealthy art seekers. You are out $5000, competing in a sea of other artists vying for space on the walls of some mansion. If you are so blessed to have a cushion of funds to invest, BY ALL MEANS, take the business risk. Truth: You ARE a pay-to-play gallery Truth: You do have a beautiful gallery and can make sales for artists who are lucky enough to sell their art. Truth: I did pay $5000 Truth: I was foolish and stupid to think that this was the course of action I needed to take to get my art "out there." Truth: I am NOT your success story Truth: You did offer resolution. But if Michael's idea of resolution is to PAY MORE by offering me a discounted rate to exhibit my artwork in San Diego, that it NOT my idea of a resolution. By the way, he was a nice person in the beginning. I don't believe he is a customer service driven person. I actually liked your first lady dealing with me. After all email exchanges, he took over and definitely lacks the finesse of dealing with unhappy clients. Truth: The Gallery was NEGLIGENT in the care of my art. PICTURES ARE EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE. Perhaps you can find a nugget of wisdom in this whole experience, as I have done myself. I learned so much about myself and for what it's worth, I am grateful. Artblend was a great teacher in what it means to believe in oneself. The experience taught me to keep it close to home and expand out that way when I am truly ready. Blessings and salamat.

Instead, the goal is, in the words of its owner, "...to showcase and collaborate with emerging talent in the visual arts, film, music and performance art." The idea is to establish an understanding and appreciation of art in varied forms through exhibits, classes and community events. Tedds Art Works is housed in small undescriptive location along North Dixie Highway. However, once inside, one is immediately taken by the uniqueness of the displays, all of which are clearly as well as nicely described or labeled, and if there is anything or the quality of anything that is not quickly understood, the owner, Tedd, is right on hand and more than happy to provide any details. For example, on the day I was there, there was a display entitled "Assemblage of Heads" by resident artist Michael Jude Russo. Each depiction of a head was composed of discarded trash, the meaning of which to me was that with some imagination and artistic interpretation, even trash can be made into an innovative item of art and that trash itself can have an inherent beauty about it. There was also another display by a person from Centralia, Pennsylvania, which in many ways seemed to recount dreaded memories of his life that town, now except for a population that has dwindled from over a thousand to a mere six or seven people, mostly abandoned due to an inextinguishable underground coal fire that is expected to continue for a period of 950 years when its fuel will run out. As the displays are constantly changing and as local art is constantly evolving, you never know exactly what art or form of art you will be seeing when visiting Tedds Art Works; which to me is a good thing.

A couple of months ago, I brought in an art piece to have the inside of the plexiglass cleaned. When I noticed months later that there were still visible marks that had been missed, I also realized that the plexiglass was no longer properly seated under the wood frame, the edge was now sticking out. This had never been an issue in the 20+ years the piece of art has been in this frame, including previous handling by other professionals. I brought the piece back and spoke with an employee named Mathew. He acknowledged that the piece had not been cleaned properly, but then attempted to blame me for the plexiglass shifting due to how I "might have handled it." He also claimed the plexiglass was cut too small for the frame, which makes no sense given the frame's long history without this problem, until Gallery Art took it apart and put it back together. Mathew initially tried to charge me $180 to re-clean the piece and realign the plexiglass, even though the issue was clearly caused by their work. I asked instead for the plexiglass to simply be replaced. After getting my piece back, I contacted the owner, Amy, to discuss the situation. She was extremely unprofessional from my initial call with her. When I called at 11:30 a.m., she told me she sleeps during the day and would not speak with me until after 7 p.m. When I finally did reach her and explained that I should not have been charged to fix their mistake, she dismissed my concerns entirely after multiple calls going back and forth with her on the situation. After spending over $700 with this business, she offered only a $90 credit and later followed up with a text to me stating... "Obviously, you agreed to the price when you dropped it off, you were not double billed." This completely missed the point of my complaint, which was about poor workmanship and accountability, not billing confusion. Overall, the lack of care, refusal to take responsibility, and unprofessional communication were unacceptable. I would not trust this company with any artwork, especially valuable or sentimental pieces.

Although there wasn't anything in the gallery I loved checking out the home which is a mid-century time capsule. Mid-century design is a popular style in architecture, furniture, and graphic design from the mid-1940s to the late 1960s, It emphasizes simple, functional pieces created from natural and man-made materials like wood, plastic, and metal. If you know it you can easily spot signs of it all over the house like the uniquely colored bathrooms and the silver metal starburst on the wall. You can take tour of this house and the Butler house every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM.
