We are from LA where there used to be some great Moroccan restaurants, but they have all closed. Chez Bebert is still going strong after all these years. The food was fantastic and plentiful. Our two entrees could have easily fed 4 people. Lamb shank Couscous, chicken tagine, all amazing. And Jamil our waiter was a treat. He has been there 18 years, ask for him! We were so disappointed with our meal. We had been there a few years back on our first trip to Paris and it was good. When we ordered it via Uber Eats this time, it had no taste. While the couscous grain was nice and fluffy, the vegetables did not taste like anything. The broth was quite oily and still provided zero flavor. We were looking forward to a great meal. This is more of a PSA than a review: DO NOT EAT HERE. The service is abominable, the space is awful, and the food is a threat to one's health. The restaurant is usually packed, but don't let that fool you because it has more to do with location than anything else. I was in a party of five with my colleagues and though there was plenty of space in the restaurant, the host asked a black gentlemen who was sitting by himself in a booth to move so we could be accommodated; obviously that is ridiculous and we asked the host to seat us elsewhere. We should have left right then and there, but decided to stay because we wanted Moroccan and there weren't as many other options within walking distance of our hotel. The area we were eventually seated in was cramped and tight. Our waiter spoke no English, which is not that big a deal in Paris because you can typically fumble your way through an order and still get exactly what you want. Not here! We didn't receive English menus, which supposedly exist, but our waiter didn't have the common sense to bring to our table of 5 non-French speaking diners. Awful service aside, the food was disgusting. The appetizer sampler that came out first was a hodgepodge of pickled items, olives, and some samosas. The samosas were obviously frozen because it was crispy on the outside and ice cold in the middle, and the carrots tasted as if they had gone bad. Besides the semi-frozen samosas and spoiled carrots, the pastilla was irredeemably bad. Pastilla is not for everybody, and the version served here is the worst I've had anywhere: soggy in the middle from too much oil and had way too much sugar. We ordered two pastillas and gave one away because we couldn't make it through one between five people. The tajines are meager and overcooked (we tried the lamb with almonds and the kefta) and the couscous is completely devoid of flavor. This establishment essentially shattered the possibility that there is no bad meal in Paris. This isn't bad it's horrible. We decided to ditch our meal after a few bites and went around the corner to McDonald's because even faux food is better than this food. STAY AWAY! read more

My family and I went to this restaurant with high expectations since the first time we went--it was superb. However after the pandemic, I've come to say that this place has a taken a turn for the worst. Honestly the food we ordered was at best okay but nothing compared to the high quality food served by other restaurants in the area. The lamb chops we ordered for 25 euro were amateur; they were rubbery and oddly seasoned. The beef meatball couscous with egg was tasteless and overall not worth eating (so I left it unfinished). If you want to find a good Moroccan restaurant I'd definitely recommend Lu 401-one of the most highly rated morrocan restaurants in Paris. read more

My wife and I were wandering through Paris looking for dinner one night (in July 2014), when we happened by this Moroccon place. She is a sucker for food from the middle east. I read somewhere that Moroccon food was to Paris as Indian food was to London, so we decided to give it a try. The decor and the music was very authentic and transported us to a far off, exotic land. As we were looking at the menu and staring at people eating around us, a waiter who spoke English saw the confusion on our faces and came to rescue us. I admitted that I had never eaten Moroccan food, but was very excited to try it and asked for his recommendations. He then gave us the rundown on what the food was and how it was prepared. We were intrigued and now very excited. He helped us come to some decisions on what to eat and then checked on us as the meal went along. So, I ordered the couscous Bebert, which was a meat medley of 2 Moroccon Sausages, chicken, a skewer of lamb, a long chili pepper and another slow cooked lamb not on a skewer. My wife ordered the legumes couscous, which was a vegetable dish. It had a big white bowl of what tasted like a "beat based broth" with carrots and potatoes. Around the "lazy suzan was several small dishes filled with different vegetables including, white raisins, roasted chick peas, white beans, a very spicy concentrated curry type paste, potatoes/carrots/zucchini, and a large dish of couscous. As soon as they took our menus away, the waiter brought a Moroccan appetizer tray which included cold beats, cooked carrots, a sauteed onion and pepper dish, cabbage, carrots and pearl onions, sauteed spicy potatoes, olives and a couple of cheese pastry, all to be eaten with toothpicks. We were afraid that we had somehow bought an appetizer we didn't realize we ordered, but, not to worry- It was complimentary. Wow! (Picture not included, because there are other pics of this appetizer) When the entrees came, they were covered in some sort of a tagine top. Very impressive presentation. When our waiter lifted the top, it was time to get it on. We were instructed to start by piling up a couple of spoon-fulls of couscous and then add to it- any and all of the rest of either of our entrees over top. Then complete the dish with a spoon-full of the sauce from the white bowl over the top. So, off we went. We learned that one must be careful not to go too heavy on the couscous because it is very filling and expands in your stomach. If you are reading this, you should go easy on the couscous so you can get down on the good stuff. It was delicious! And thanks to the awesome wait staff, we were able to try something completely new and really get stuff we liked. Great meal and very memorable experience! read more

Tried to have dinner there, terrible waiter pisses me off. The waiter took over 20 mins to get me a menu not because the restaurant was crowded (there was barely anyone there at that time) but he was randomly staring out of the restaurant looking at the streets for some reason. When I raised my hand to tell them I was ready to order, he didn't care and walked past me despite noticing my hand up the entire time. I flicked my fingers and he walk past me and he went all "hey that was rude, take your time, I noticed you!". Well, how about a little nod to me signifying that you actually saw my hand raised. Left and never looked back. I don't care how good their food are but this is not how you treat your customer, not especially when you are the waiter. read more

My family came to this place as it was close to our hotel. After a long day of walking we just wanted a light dinner before heading back. We had wanted to order an appetizer and 3 main dishes but the waiter unapologetically insisted we have to order 5 mains for our party of 5. He then briskly walked away. When he came back, I explained in my limited french that we wanted a light meal plus our elderly mother cannot eat very much. When he insisted again, I spoke in simple english to hopefully get my point across but he cut me off and said very rudely and loudly, no english! He stormed off. At this point we decided to leave. He ruined our whole evening! I don't care how good their food is, you do not treat your customers like that. I have never experienced service like this anywhere. Chez Bebert was my first exposure to Moroccan food. I love the basins of couscous, I love the soft seasoned vegetables, I love the prevalence of tomato--I just love this place. I even love the snobbish waiter who taught me how to say check in French: l'addition. Follow the Rue de Rennes towards the tall building; it's located at the corner. The menu is exclusively French, so do some guessing like I did! But for vegetarians out there, look for dishes with the aloe vera symbol next to them. read more

French friends took us there two years ago and all of us enjoyed 3 types of couscous: the chicken and merguez was delicious! The place was crowded but we were seated promptly and waited on very well; our then-9 year old still talks of the couscous there even though it was his first experience with that food. This fall we went back there for lunch and had a sunny table next to the windows, and we enjoyed our merguez and chicken couscous with North African red wine recommended by the maitre. We were invited by couple who were here for about 50 times and always said there is agreat food and service. We were with our 3 y. .o . Doughter, and it seems that we are not welcome with baby and our pushchair. I fully agree that a food are delicious in this place , but it depense. But it could be a liittle bit better service. For exanple, the waiter( young man) asked if my friend is finished his meal? It was obviously he DID NOT,because he WAS EATING! This was a rude attitude! It just keeps being great. It's not great food, it's a great place with really good food and each time there is a great time. I had lunch here last week and it was terrific. Even the chicken kebob, which is not what I ordered, was great. I ordered the roasted chicken, and although I really wanted what I ordered, the substitute was delicious. Just not as soft and plentiful. The zucchini, carrots and turnips, the gonzo beans and white kidney beans and couscous all came together with a house bottle of the Algerian red to make a great 50 euro meal once again. This place was terrific. Everything people have said and more. The food was tasty, abundant, so much so, that an appetizer and an entree each was almost too much food for two people. Not only did we get a huge portion of couscous, but there were beans and chickpeas in addition to the meat. Very reasonably priced, excellent service. 67€ for all the above and a half liter of wine. A friend and I went to this restaurant yesterday for lunch. We had no problem getting seated and our waiter was very friendly and helpful, giving advice on what to order and suggesting a good Moroccan wine to pair with our meal. We had the Mixed Grille couscous and it was delicious, perfectly spiced with light, delicate flavors that were just wonderful. We had Orange Cannelle for dessert and it was a clean, fresh ending to a great meal. The waiter was so courteous and attentive throughout our meal, and brought us two shots of a cherry liqueur when we finished as digestifs. This restaurant is well worth a stop, and we will definitely be back before we leave Paris. read more

Very busy in the evening so either get there early or just wait. Service is very fast because of the nature of the food you are ordering: couscous or tagine that don't require individual portion cooking. Couscous are of different variety with all type of meat and even a couple of veggie option (that's rare). The couscous itself is very good, probably not the best in Paris but still of very good quality. Do try the Morrocan lager, it's nice. read more

We were staying at a nearby hotel and were looking for something in the 15-20 euro price range. Chez Bebert received favourable reviews on Yelp, and it did not disappoint. The location and decor are great: right at the corner of Montparnasse and Rennes, the window seats look out across the busy intersection. The interior is done up in lush North African decor that gave it a wonderful atmosphere. The service, provided by two male servers, was attentive and polite. As young, cheap, student tourists we ordered the two cheapest types of couscous: chicken and Merguez sausage, 15 and 16 euros respectively. We were expecting two bowls of couscous; they brought out a feast! There were large dishes of couscous and cooked vegetables (zucchini, carrots, and squash) to share--more than enough, and I can eat a lot--along with smaller shared dishes of sauce, chickpeas and white beans in oil. The meat arrived atop lettuce leaves on a metal tray was placed on a rack over a small torch; the heat filled our area with more delicious aromas. All-in-all, we received two large platters of food, three smaller dishes of legumes and oils, two chicken kebabs and four wild-looking Merguez sausages, plus our two eating bowls. Even considering the exchange rate, this would have been an excellent value meal in Canada, which seems rare in Paris. The chicken was grilled and had smoky and citrus flavours, but the sausage, however, turned out to be the star of the show: bright, almost neon, red, delightfully spiced, and all-around perfect. The couscous was excellent, and the vegetables, after too many days of croissants and pain au chocolats, were welcome and delicious. As I previously mentioned, I can eat a lot. For 31 euros, the two of us were STUFFED. We barely finished all we were given, yet it was too good to want to leave any behind. We ate a lot of excellent meals in Paris, and this was definitely one of the top two or three. read more

Wow! So MUCH food and all of it so tasty. Get there early if you can - by the time we left around 8pm the line for a table was out the door. If you don't understand French not a big deal - just bring a dictionary or ask for an English one. I got the two chicken skewers with the Asian rice and my boyfriend got the Couscous Bebert. In all honesty, we probably only needed his one order because his came with a huge plate of couscous, the meat, and about 4 different bowls of different vegetables in a a sauce/soup. The price wasn't bad either - for both of our dishes with half bottle of wine it came to 47€. The service was pretty good - servers seemed rushed but the place was packed. read more

The food was very good. Getting a table was an exercise in patience. The line was out the door. We slowly worked our way to the front of the line. I spent the hour we waited trying to figure out the method of seating people. I came to the conclusion it was at the whim of the host. We were a party of two. After being told twice that the next table was ours, and then being passed over for people in line behind us, I was no longer puzzled. At that point my daughter was thinking of leaving but I vowed to stay until they turned the lights out for the night! We were eventually seated I think just to get us out of the way. The waiter did not like what I ordered (because it did not have meat). He brought me an English menu to rectify my foolish ways. We ordered and I am pretty sure that they just brought us what they wanted us to have anyway. It was a mass quantity of various meats, bean and couscous. It was worth the wait. I got a raised eyebrow when I ordered a whole bottle of wine. Ha. Watch out for the large green pepper they use for garnish. It is hotter than Hades. read more
