This station is perfectly located near the might drag of Cottle Road/Santa Teresa Blvd and accessible to the freeway. Friendly staff morning, noon, and late night. I can't really speak about their auto service, but their in store cashiers are definitely helpful. Clean bathrooms are a plus at any gas station oasis. Avoid at all costs! Had some transmission fluid leaking from my car so asked them to take a look. Just wanted to know what the issue was. The guy (think he's the owner) just wanted to rebuild my transmission and charge me $3k- $4k. He said my trans was shot. Since I hadn't had any issues I decided to get a 2nd opinion. They charged me $100 saying they added a couple quarts of tranny fluid. So I took if it to Bob's Almaden transmission who quickly realized there was a loose plug. They tightened it and didn't even charge me. This Chevron basically just wanted to take me for a $4000 ride and clearly didn't even look at it for the $100 they charged me, otherwise he would have seen it was just the plug. I would avoid them for any kind of service. Gas and smokes are over-priced too. read more

Avoid this place at all cost. On 4/6/16 took my car to Santa Teresa Chevron for a smog check it didn't pass because of engine light. Owner said he didn't know what codes meant . I asked if I brought back would I have to pay $ 59 again was told no. I took to dealer had repaired returned on 4/8 to Chevron for smog check and they charged me 59 again when I asked why I was being charged twice owner said because I didn't have the repairs done by him . I said I can see paying for certification but not the entire smog would not release my car unless I paid again. I have never paid twice for a smog check. The owner and his employees exploited the situation and extorted additional money from me. read more

Best auto repair! I have used this station for years and recommended to friends, all of us have been very happy. I don't understand the previous reviews except they may be from people expecting something for nothing. Honesty is the name of the game at this station! Dave the owner is a great guy. It's a family business, if he was not on the up and up he couldn't have possibly stayed in the business as long as he has. I even bought a used car from him and he guaranteed it for a year, any major repair! No one will do this unless they stand by their work. It's all good. This was several years back, but it still burns me. One day, both my wife and I both filled up at this station within a few minutes of each other. We both had car trouble later that day. We took our cars to separate repair facilities. Both of our cars had clogged fuel filters. The gas we got was dirty. My family has been going to this mechanic (a few different stations along the way but currently on Cottle) for over 25 years. They give us an honest evaluation, friendly service, and their work is excellent. They have fixed what others have failed to. They've never charged us for anything we didn't need. I would have given it five stars except sometimes they got busy since a lot of people in the area are aware of their great service. They're AAA-certified which I've been told by a towing company is very hard to get. They give discounts for AAA members. read more

If I could give 6 starts I would. My 18 year old Toyota Camry didn't pass smog. I had the smog test performed at a different Star Test and Repair business. I had to wait a few days until I could leave my car at the other business for a day for diagnostics. They couldn't find anything wrong and suggested I try another Star Test and Repair business with more expertise. I found ST Chevron on a list given by the BAR and noted they had a website that was impressive and professional. I spoke with Steve and explained my frustration. He suggested the best day to drop the car off (several days after I called). When I brought the car in, they were overloaded with work ahead of me but Steve managed to fit me in around everything else. By the afternoon, he had performed numerous tests, including Cat efficiency tests, which confirmed that the front catalytic converter needed replacing. At the time he called, he had already located the part and told me that the car would be ready the next day or early the day after that. I guess the moral of my story is that finding the right repair shop that has extensive diagnostic tools is key. This repair shop is well run, clean and the mechanics who work there are very experienced. Steve is very personable to all (employees and customers) and you leave there feeling confident you received the best service and care. I will definitely return for my car needs in the future. read more

I'll never spend a dime at this gas station and here is why you should consider skipping it too. It was late tonight when my low tire pressure light comes on. I'm alone in the car with three children, 8 and under, two sleeping and I'm worried about letting it sit overnight and having a flat tire in the morning, so I pull in to the nearest gas station and ask the attendant, his name is Jafar, to please turn the air on for me. He rudely says 'are you a customer?'. I paused for a second because I've never had this issue at any gas station ever. I said, I don't need gas right now but I have been a customer before. I have a low tire.' He says that I have to make a purchase to get air. I told him that I believe in California, stations need to provide free air and water to motorists. He told me to go read the sign outside. I was floored. So I got back in my car and went across the street to 76 where I asked exactly the same question, 'can you please turn the air on for me?' To which he said, sure, no problem' just like I'd hope any gas station would do. Lesson learned. I've lived 6 blocks from these two gas stations most of my life....I'll never spend another dime at this Chevron, which is historically expensive anyway, and I'll go across the street to the 76 station where they don't mind helping out a member of their community. read more

Me family and me been going to Mr. Dave's garage for over 15 years and always get the best service. But 4 or 5 yrs ago, he hires Mr. Steve and all prices go way up, i get told to fix things other mechanic tell me nothing is wrong. My family tells me not to go here no more, but Mr. Dave is nice guy and when he is there, i get good, polite service. Plus he always fix my cars real good. I so wish Mr. Dave would sack Mr. Steve because he is always rude, cold, and i feel like since i complained to Mr. Dave one time, now Mr. Steve has a chip on shoulder and doesn't like me. Wow, reading some of the reviews here urges me to ask folks to think and, ask around before dumping all over a biz. a) the people Dave has working there are all Experienced....even the reviews bear this out as well, the complaints arne't repairs, its cost...b) The cost is a set hourly charge, its high, yes, because they are experienced, they get top dollar....there are no recent shop school graduates etc. they are seasoned mechanics. c) when they commit ( Any station worth a damn does it) to look at your car, you're paying an hourly labor charge, even if its just takes 20 minutes, its at $80 bucks right now I think d) Dave is the 'franchise' owner, Chevron owns the land, he pays rent e) I do agree and have told the owner myself that the $165 diagnostic is whacked. However, I know why he does it, because it helps cover or defray other ancillary costs like the cashiers salary, the intake guys salary ( Garret) and the absolutely insane regularity fees this county and state levy etc..f) as fas as gruff employees, customer service is hard and guess what, they are mechanics, not casino greeters, if you want a smiley BS artist, ( who doesn't know squat) go to a dealership and get your service there....good luck on that. Last but not least the old saying; 'time is money'...applies here too. I have or had 6 cars I have been bringing up there for over 10 years, not ONCE have I ever had to bring one back to have fixed what they said they had already fixed. I would have to agree, From my recent experience at this Chevron on the corner of Cottle & Santa Teresa they are a ripoff, borderline scammers. I feel sorry for those individuals who have no option with a broke down car that just got towed there. The guy Steve that writes you up is primary bullshit artist and throws out these ridiculous price estimates and then after you feel defeated and agree to this outrageous dealership like pricing, Steve calls you later and tells you some other bullshit story about needing further work and/or additional parts and labor. What a crock. Borderline crooks if you ask me. I went there once just to get something checked, nothing big, and Steve said he would need to run a full diagnostics on it hook it up to a scanner and would cost $115 for the diagnostics. What bull crap, I drove across the street to the 76 station and they scanned the computer for free and we're happy to even give me the codes. These are the guys I would rather bring my car too. Not some gas station that charges dealership prices and fixes and sells cars on the side. This Chevron has probably been ripping people off for years. Don't waste your time or money, take it to any nearby 76 or even Sears Auto near the mall. Better prices and real honest estimates. read more

DO NOT GET A SMOG HERE!!!!! Went in to get my husband's car smogged and they ran the smog knowing it wouldn't pass due to not having a sticker for a replaced air filter. They charged us, said it failed and refused to re-smog it if we came back with the original filter in place. They were also incredibly rude about it. They even gave my husband the wrong paperwork on the way out and called him after we left to bring it back. Do not come here!!!! We went somewhere else and they were nice enough to open the hood first and inform us they would not run a smog since it would fail due to no sticker for air filter. read more

I'd used this Chevron in the past for smog checks, never any problem. I brought my truck in yesterday to diagnose stalling @ low idle. I was quoted $132 for oil change and diagnostics. Dave called back recommended also changing radiator hose, wipers and performing fuel system service revising my estimate to $560. I OK'd the amount of $560 and they did the service. When I picked up the truck, the paper work showed customer approved revised quote for $715 and my bill was $611.87. Honestly my truck runs like new now, so I'm very happy with their work, but advise everyone to be very cautious about trusting Dave's phone quotes. Prompt, efficient smog check - no hassles

I know the mechanic Scott Sirianni. So I sent friends over there to get repairs done. I am sorry I did that now! Even though Scott is cool, the guy who runs it Ben, makes sure to jack up prices 300%. My friend went to get a smog check done and was told she needed $1200 in repairs first. She took it to a mechanic recommended by click and clack PBS show, and he charged her $125....said she didn't need all that extra stuff brakes, catalytic converter, etc... Another friend went to get headlights, they charged him $750 for a $100 job. I called Chevron and they tell me they have had numerous complaints and will most likely revoke the stations franchise if they continue to get more. It is sad as Scott is really very capable. The previous owner was cool. Oh they also keep displaying the name of the old owner and I have heard they direct complaints to him (he left years ago!). read more

I started a Yelp account to warn people about this place! DO NOT GO HERE! I took my car in for repairs, I had them fix my throttle body, and they still charged me 165.00 for diagnostics. I took my car in for another problem at a different shop and they waived my diagnostics fee since they repaired my car at their facilities. The thing that REALLY got me angry was that this Chevron station told me that I needed to have my rear ignition coil replaced, and I told them to fix it. They said the labor was expensive for the back 2 coils, while the front two were cheaper and easier to get to. They charged me about 300 dollars to put in a new ignition coil. THEN, about a week later I took it to another shop and this shop told me I needed to replace my rear ignition coils!!!! These guys at Chevron installed a front ignition coil rather than the rear and charged me for the more expensive labor!! NOT VERY HAPPY ABOUT THIS! I feel like this should be reported to some sort of government agency for fraud. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Try Auto America...very trust worthy and professional...they don't charge for diagnostics and they even discounted some parts for me...and they are only about four miles apart from each other. read more

*** Unprofessional and poor service *** I brought my wife's car in for a smog check and was told the car would be ready in 30 minutes. I walked across the street for a quick bite and came back to pick up the car without any doubt the car will pass. Cashier said to talk to Steve at the window because the smog test failed. I approached the window and before I had the opportunity to ask the question, the guy (Steve) asked in a rather loud obnoxiously tone "who worked on your car?" I responded, "I gave you the key early - I am not sure I understand your question?" He asked again in a rather ill-mannered, "who worked on your car?' I explained to him that I did not bring my car in for service, I brought the car in for a smog check and he was the one who I gave the key to. He asked again and again I explained to him that I had no idea who worked on my car. I told him I gave him the key earlier so I don't know who performed smog check on my car. He then snatched the paperwork from my hand, flipped the page, pointed to the highlighted section identifying what had failed, and then asked the same question. I shook my head and told him that I have no idea what he is asking. Finally, he said the monitor on the system board appeared to have been reset and wanted to know if someone had worked on the car, or if the battery when out recently. WHAT??? These people are crooks. I was quoted $120 for a safety check. That's a 15-20 minute procedure. I was in a hurry and needed it done quick so I went with it anyways, thinking they literally quoted me for an hour of service but would be honest and respectable with their work. I was disappointed to see that when I picked the car up later, they charged me for the full hour. Even when I voiced my discontent that I knew the procedure did not take an hour, they were quite literally dismissive and rude about it. I believe the exact words were "I'm sorry you feel that way", click. When I called back to ask for the owner, they said he would be "in meetings" all day. When I asked for his email, they replied "it won't help, he doesn't check it". Totally and utterly focused on their bottom line and not on consumer satisfaction and honesty. My fault for signing the initial authorization. They just printed it and handed it to me without explaining the breakdown and how long. I should have paid more attention and asked more questions. Regardless, complete crooks. Also, they returned my car grease and dirt filth on the dashboard, right after I just had it detailed. Do not take your car here for repairs! read more

Run for your life! This station is a trap for the unaware motorist. Above all things, don't let them do any smog check or work--even though they are at this time a Gold Shield station; the complaints are everywhere. It is only a matter of time. They put a catalytic converter on my car two years ago and passed me for the smog test ($over $900). When I went to get my test recently, it passed everything except the inspector said that someone had put the WRONG CATALYTIC CONVERTER on my car. It was the one that Santa Teresa Chevron installed on my car (for the over $900). I called the state of California and they verified that the # on my cat was the wrong one and that I could not be cleared for the smog inspection with it. Wow! I could not believe it. But rather than take my car back to a business that would do such a thing (and after reading all the other reviews on Yelp)-- I decided to have a new catalytic converter installed at a trustworthy source and get my car approved on the smog test. I did just that and took the financial hit; however, I'm writing this review for the benefit of others. read more
