Turns out the Denny's is connected to the truck stop. Flying J has everything or almost everything you're looking for if you're a traveler. I came back at night and wanted to peruse the snack aisles. While I was there, I noticed they have showers and you can pay for it and wait for your number to be called to take a shower. Also, they have both Coke and Pepsi products at the soda dispenser station. Wanted a sweet treat and got one Cinnabon in a box. Katima (?) helped me out and she was very pleasant and even suggested warming up my Cinnabon at the microwave they have available for use, at the Travel Center. If you're staying at one of the many hotels off Lenwood or stopping through, I highly suggest getting a snack, drink or shower here. There's no CVS or Target in these parts and this is the closest thing to it.

The inside of the convenience store is well stocked with your usual drinks, chips, candies, cookies that are well arranged. Restrooms are clean as well, with solid stall doors. Of note, one stall did smell urea (ick! Pass! No thanks, used the next stall). No paper towels though, I don't care for the hand driers. I really liked the self service/checkout option because I got stuck behind a group of people (6 of them who were buying different things & one person paying) It's annoying but I opted to use the self checkout to bypass that mess. Overall a good experience. Got a chance to stretch out.

We also picked up some waters, and my friend purchased a Dr. Pepper fountain drink and he said it was very good. In addition to the hot pre-made food, there's also a mini subway, a game room, and showers. The customer service was very friendly. They were in good spirits.

What can I say, I love me some fried gizzards. Unfortunately there are very few places you can find…read morethem in Los Angeles so when I'm on the road I always look for a Love's. They usually house a Chester's Chicken within and their fried gizzards are mmmmm mmmmm good! For the past two weekends I've gone to Las Vegas and both times stopped at the Love's in Barstow. Both times we were actually greeted by the cashier as we walked in. I don't know if that has happened to me at any gas station let alone consistently two weeks in a row by different people. And the workers at the Chester's were so super sweet and friendly. Is it living in Barstow that has everyone so nice? Maybe I've been underestimating this area. Last week Semaj hooked us up with some freshly fried gizzards. They were a little on the salty side but Semaj was so sweet and so cool that didn't stop me from enjoying them. This was my friends first time trying gizzards and she's hooked too. Barstow is too far to just make a gizzard run but this Love's is definitely going to be my regular stop to and from my Vegas runs.

The young lady working there seemed unsure about which flavors were actually available and had crossed off some that were still in stock. When I tried to confirm the flavors, she gave me a noticeable teenage-style side eye, which was frustrating considering there was already confusion about what they had available. She had also turned a couple of people away before us, only to later realize she had made a mistake, which I didn't think was fair or funny.(she laughed) I would definitely come back for the popcorn and other treats, but the ice cream is probably a no-go for me after this experience. I had been looking forward to my butter pecan after making the trip, and maybe the service affected the experience, but it was mid at best.
