Wasn't exactly sure how to walk away from my car without being accosted by the homeless dudes and get my situation taken care of. The guys inside are indeed "buddies" and were rather nice. This place is so weird. It's a late night mecca of the alcohol, a frustrating place to fill up the auto, always under construction, and super friendly behind the counter. I lived and still work close to Buddy's and have staggered in numerous times from late-nighting it at Manuel, Claremont, El Bar or some other Poncey den of ill repute. I REALLY wish they would turn that strange building in the middle of the lot into a 24hr taco stand. read more

Buddy's is one of few independent gas station and convenience stores left in the city, or anywhere else for that matter, so it's nice to have it located in such a convenient spot as it is. Right at the intersection of North Highland and North Ave and open 24 hours, you can always count on Buddy's for that late night craving or fill up needs. Plus, unlike many of the other major gas stations in the downtown area, you won't be accosted by loiterers begging for change very often-- for some reason they just don't hang out here. I like the awning and the feel of the pumps for some reason: reminds me of filling up before everything turned into corporate uniformity. The convenience store stocks a pretty decent array for a gas station. They have a hot food counter that is open through the day and keeps leftovers out under a heat lamp. I know a few people who eat them regularly and say they're great, but I'm not so bold. They have a better wine/beer selection than you might imagine. I agree: long live Buddy's. read more

Was walking to the laundromat in the same parking lot and overheard the owner of the gas station berating a young black woman. He was being very aggressive and racist towards her, over what seemed to be a parking spot. He was mad that she was in the parking spot that he claimed he was entitled to as the owner (there's no indication that the spot "belongs to him") and labeled her as aggressive when she was just upset. Very disappointed as I used to frequent this gas station because it was close to me. It's like every other gas station in the mile radius, anyways. Don't go here or give someone who would willingly berate someone over something that petty your money. read more

And at ground zero lay Buddy's--handing out smokes and beer without judgment, without remorse. Over time, Buddy's serviced everyone. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. Seriously, what's not to love about Buddy's? Between the stable staff who knows what you want when you walk in (*ahem*), the organic wine selection and the crazy extensive snack selection, you can find anything you want at Buddy's. Sandwich? Check. Gourmet(ish) java? Check. Very very tiny Ben & Jerry's? Check. Convenience stores are so under appreciated, but don't let it be said that neighborhood staples that make up the modern equivalent of the Mom & Pop shops of the past have been eradicated. Buddy's is always my first choice for gas getting, and red bull buying. Why? Because it's sort of like going into a local bar because you always run into an old friend there. It is also the number one place to be at on a Sunday at 11:59 pm; the place fills with folks eager to continue their departure from sobriety. They have a pretty decent selection of wines and beers for a gas station, it's odd but convenient! One major complaint I have is that for a gas station, they sure don't keep up with their gas pumps! Sometimes you have to circle all the pumps to find one with the gas you want. But my favorite thing is finding my desired pump, turning off my car, and unscrewing the gas cap, only to find out that the damned pump is out of order. Thanks for the warning, guys. But I won't stop coming back. If I get there when my favorite lady is working I always have a great chat with her and she always makes my day vastly better. read more

This place is the equivalent of an in town QT. It's clean, decently lit, and relatively safe. You might see a homeless guy every so often (most recently the one wearing a black beanie and Central American looking blanket... He's pretty harmless), but it's not a big deal. All gas stations are overpriced. It is part of the "convenice" that you pay a little extra. Buddy's has a good beer and wine selection, they have King of Pops, they have hats and porn, they have drinks, chips, and more. Most of the guys working there get to know the regulars and are happy to see you when you show up. Has been my favorite gas station in town for awhile. Oddest moment isnt even that crazy. This guy comes rolling up to the store on four flats tires just ripping the remains to ribbons. He comes and asked the guy behind the counter if they sell tires and told no. Then he wants to know where the nearest place that sells tires is at. The guy behind the counter tells him the tire place about two miles away. They guy gets in his car and just starts to drive away on his rims like it was a normal day. read more

Buddy's is great. I've passed it innumerable times before I realized that it, in fact, is a huge convenience store. Its storeness is partially eclipsed by the Chevron gas pumps and the abandoned mini gas station-building associated with it. I was sitting in Java Vino a few weeks ago, looking out the window, and thought to myself (and eventually said aloud), "When did the liquor store get built?" to which my boyfriend responded, that, um, it's kind of always been there. Buddy's doesn't sell liquor, but it does sell an awful lot of beer and wine. And moderately good beer (even organic beer!), and a wide variety of wine, and lots and lots of sweet white wine chilled, which is really what I'm going for. You can also buy, of course, convenience store snacks there at prices higher than what you would at a grocery store, and cigarettes, and 69 cent fountain drinks, and porn. What more can one ask for? Eclectic fellow shoppers? Buddy's has got that, too! It also has a single stall bathroom inside for which one does not need a key. If you are in the middle of a long-distance run, this is a good place to stop. read more

I love Buddy's! I used to live near the Highlands and Buddy's was always my go-yo place for anything ranging from smokes to decent bottles of wine. The staff are always friendly and they really know the local patrons. They remember faces and will always hand you your "usual" items when you walk through the door. I have a guilt problem handing out 3-star reviews because I think all business owners try hard, but I also happen to think that 3 stars is damn good for a gas station. I worked at the coolest gas station in Durham, N.C., when I was a teenager and I wouldn't give that place four. All you people that voted this place up this high? I mean, you're ranking it where a lot of people rank Rathbun's. This is your basic expanded convenience store with most of what you need. There are kettle chips, lays and pringles. They have dry roasted peanuts, hot peanuts and smokehouse almonds. One thing they don't have much of is beef jerky and that is a problem. I don't think they have a lot of fresh stuff, but come on. It's 3 a.m. Settle for Ben and Jerry's. I'm a little wary of their wine, so I avoid it. Haven't had a bad experience so I really shouldn't speak out of turn. Their beer selection is more than adequate, and I do buy a lot here. My hundreds of dollars (perhaps thousands?) in purchases over the last three years should make up for the paucity of stars I'm willing to give. Trust me, that Texaco by Popeye's on Ponce is only getting 2 if they are lucky. The clerks are very friendly. One guy always smiles and practically bows when he gives me back my change. One drawback is that the lot can be hard to get in and out of because North and Highland are so busy and are both two lanes. But usually worth the stop if you need junk food, beer or smokes late at night. read more

This place is a staple for Atlanta midtown life- especially at night. Buddy's feels safe, is well-lit, and the staff are attentive & nice... and seem to like their jobs. They are friendly and consistent. They are open 24 hours and they have an impressive range of food, wine and other alcoholic refreshments, and other . I've been here probably hundreds of times and never seen a bathroom- I would go elsewhere for that. King of Pops are sold here, which is a total draw, be it a hot summer day or late night after a smoky bar. For my first review, I'll go back to the spot I spent the most time/money upon arrival in early 2000. The mini-store/flowershop made it. If I remember, it was like if you were too lazy to walk ALL THE WAY into the big store, you could wobble into the mini-store and pay for gas, plus get some tulips and a pack of gum. Haven't been in years since moving out out of the Inman area, but name one other place in the City where you could get good beer, dirty gas, crappy food, & fresh flowers (and a geek-out movie across the street @ Videodrome) ??? The pumps are nice. This is one of those convenience store/gas stations where you can watch television while putting gas in your car. I like that. The store is well stocked and the clerks are very friendly. Buddy's just needs to make sure that at least most of the pumps are working at all times. If they can't repair or refill them, they need to put signs on the pumps. It is so irritating to drive to 3 different pumps to find one that works. read more

Never buy gas here. I know, you're thinking, "but they have all those gas pumps!" I'm doing you a favor. Gas is at least 15 cents more expensive here than it is anywhere else in the city. You don't come to Buddy's for gas. (Also, the one time I HAD to get gas at Buddy's b/c I was running out there was a homeless man in the parking lot that kept screaming "whore" at me. I mean, come on, you don't know me that well!) Now that we've gotten that out of the way... You come to Buddy's when you've just stumbled out of Manuel's Tavern and you're not done drinking and your friends need more cigarettes ('cause you don't smoke, but aren't opposed to watching others do it.) There's a large selection of wine and cold beer in the 'fridge cases. There's usually two people behind the counter, and if there's only one he works both registers at the same time and it's super quick to get in and out. They've just "remodeled" the inside of Buddy's, but seriously, it is what it is. Nothing fancy, but very functional. Also, they have a good selection of incense. read more

The bathroom is clean, the guys behind the counter are always friendly, and a good selection of little essentials, from foodstuffs to household products to grab if you're in a pinch. This used to be my go-to gas station for paying at the pump, but after going inside the store a few times, I received very poor customer service. Two things stood out to me. First, there appear to be no female workers. Next, I have never received a greeting, or a thank you, during transactions. Of course, this is typical for most convenience stores, but a recent purchase motivated this review. When I politely disputed a charge on a recent visit, one of the clerks actually started yelling at me. Due to their employees' unprofessionalism, I will not continue to support this business. read more
