I had the fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding with custard. Entree was great, pudding was great, prolly will skip the custard next time though because, while it was delicious, they filled a cereal bowl full of it with the custard aaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllll the way down in the bottom like a sunken pirate ship. Staff are super friendly, they have a playground outside and a WHOLE PARKING LOT. Just glorious. Now, my one real critique is this, and it's for the owners so if you're not them you can skip the rest of this review: per your Tex Mex chicken with the Cajun seasoning; Cajun is NOT Tex Mex. Cajun is its own cuisine from Louisiana inspired by French cuisine and African American soul food. Tex Mex is Texas (think cowboy Chuck wagon type stuff) and Mexican, so not French or Soul Food inspired at all. Not even a little bit. Not even close. That's one heck of a fusion y'all lol

The staff is extremely nice and the food was excellent. I might have to come back tomorrow for one of their pies as they looked delicious!

Fantastic food and friendly service in a very traditional pub, which means the building has its…read morequirks, namely drafts. So be careful of which table you choose to sit at, as there's a breeze wafting thru the eaves, which might be okay in summer, but since I was there in winter, meant I was using a shawl to stay warm. Architecture aside, the food really is the star here, and this place is one of my brother's fave places in the area, and he especially recommends their Fish Pie. Btw, there is no table service to take your order. You have to pre-pay at the counter, and the food is bought out to you later. When I came here with my brother and mum, we ordered the following menu items and it was more than enough food for all three of us: 1) Fish Pie - this is what this restaurant is justifiably famous for and it's a massive dish. They only make a certain number of the pie's per day, and when it's over, it's over. So if going for dinner (and I can't emphasize this enough) call them to make sure they still have a fish pie available!! We lucked out, they'd one left, which they saved for us (hoorah) cause it was DELICIOUS!! Lashings of beautifully crisped potatoes and underneath a lovely combination of scallops, fish, shrimps and vegetables. Loved this dish!! 2) Cod & Chips - a hearty piece of fried fish that was placed atop of the chips. I don't like this kinda placement as the chips right underneath the fish get a bit soggy so hurriedly moved the fish piece to the side of the plate after taking a quick photo. The fish was nicely cooked but it was also standard variety for the item. 3) My brother is a massive fan of Sticky Toffee Pudding and so we ordered this item to share, and it was a surprise when the pudding came out surrounded by custard! I've only ever had with syrup or caramelized sauce before but surprisingly the custard worked and it was delicious. Fabulous place to eat and when I next visit my brother, you better believe I'm going to request a return visit back to this place! Yelp 25/ 2019

Dear The Red Lion, My story starts here…read more.. Wednesday 6:15 I was sat at The Campbell (in town) enjoying a delicious pint of Amstel when I got the phone call "do you want to come to the red lion?" Of course, as a regular Red Lion visitor I jumped at the invitation, alas, much was to regret. I had a 15 minute wait for my bus, which was fine, you can't always get to the bus stop at the exact right time. My friends at The Red Lion had just ordered food; fish & chips & garlic bread & chips (the latter order was a member of Accidental Vegans UK) When I arrived 40 minutes later, their meals hadn't arrived, their attitudes about this quickly dissolved my buzz & good vibes, I was now in a bad mood, it was a further 15 minutes til' their meals arrived, only through prompting a waitress, who seemed to be dealing with unneeded stress (surely one waitress can't be held responsible for everybody's orders) Alas, the food arrived, the chips & garlic bread seemed to be fine, but the fish & chips, my word the fish & the chips, poor. Do you know the pain of seeing a friend unsatisfied by his fish & chips? I pray that you do not! After gobbling up only half of their meals, one friend left (the vegan) and the other friend & I stayed for another drink & his pre ordered chocolate brownie (which was a further 25 minutes) When the brownie turned up, guess what... It was burnt, burnt to a crisp, can you believe it?! It's safe to say, Red Lion, you have to regular customers highly dissatisfied, shame, shame.
