I was still new-ish to Crossfit then, and a little nervous about going somewhere new (this was my first experience outside my home Crossfit box). Rob was so helpful and provided great feedback. It is a very welcoming environment, fostered by both the trainers and the members. I travel for work a lot and sometimes don't get as much Crossfit in as I'd like. The trainers at Delaware Valley never hestitate to give extra attention if I need help with my form or tweaking a technique. Also, I notice the class sizes are a little smaller than my home box which I really like. I feel like I get more instruction. All in all, this is a great place to be a member or just to drop in. Both L&L are very good at what they do - i.e. they know when to push and always are super supportive (even when you have an off day). Larah especially has been really supportive with my wife (not that Lou hasn't been). My wife is trying to get pregnant and Larah & Lou have been super supportive being new parents themselves. They measure your progress both qualitatively and quantitatively. They're always checking in to see how you're feeling and will never make you do an exercise that you're not comfortable doing. Both L&L will always show you the right way and are actively watching to make sure you're doing it right and most importantly safely. Second, they make you feel comfortable - which is really important. I've been to the big chain gyms and you never quite feel like you fit in. With Lou and Larah it's almost like they become your "workout buddies". They make you want to go and see them, hang out and work out. Lastly, their facility is top notch. I can honestly say Lou always has at least 2-3 different exercises per body part because of his knowledge and because of the diverse equipment they have. I'm sure my wife would say the same about Larah and her knowledge. It's clean, bright and has plenty of parking. Your value prop might be different but if you want to feel good, have a staff who care about you, teach and guide you in a professional, friendly, unintimidating way, this gym is for you but you have to put in the time. My legs and back feel great which I was never able to achieve working out on my own. Marino's approach is quite different to what you are used to but you don't have to take my word for it, give them a call and setup up a free trial. 1. The facility is rectangular which lends itself well to conditioning workouts. You need the length so you can actually move. Exceptionally clean, 2 bathrooms and on nice days there is a large garage type door that is open bringing in fresh air. 2. Staff and semi private training. This is what you are paying for. Private personal trainers can cost anywhere from $40 to $70 an hour so the model at Marino's is to provide 2 to 3 trainers on the floor training several people at a time and this is done effectively because you have to schedule your time. This allows a given time slot not to be overrun upsetting trainer's attention. 3. Programs are provided based on your initial assessment and goals. Once a program is completed, another one is issued. This does several things. It keeps things fresh. Doing the same exercise routine over and over again is a guarantee you will quit a gym. It's tailored just for you and at the end of every program cycle, your input on what's working or not is taken into consideration on next program. If you injure yourself at home, develop tendonitis or any ailment that causes pain, the program can be changed at anytime to minimize your discomfort. 4. The staff (trainers and owners) are all higher Ed trained. They are all certified in CPR, defibrillators and have massage therapist onsite. Marino's has a registered dietician (RD), certified specialist in sports dietetics (CSSD). They're knowledgable, supportive and just nice people. 5. I'm coming up on 3 years here in Feb 2021 and my legs feel like marble columns, zero back issues and I can throw a ball again.

He does that too, but its about making one move better, making one live better, and making one have an overall healthier body which can move well, not just a body which can lift heavy things. His philosophy is holistic which in my experience is pretty rare among trainers. Most importantly, he admits when he doesn't know something. My hamstrings have always been super tight and with other trainers they just told me to kept stretching them (or work through the pain). Neil started out saying I should keep stretching them, but then noticed that didn't seem to be doing much. He wasn't sure what the issue was, so he brought in a physical therapist who he knows, who was able to figure out that its because of a weak core, and so we've been working with that and my hamstrings have improved massively. Working with a trainer who knows physical therapists and knows when to ask them for guidance has been invaluable. His space is relaxing, private, and pretty quiet by NYC standards.
