The cast was wonderful. The intimate theater made us feel part of the show. The reason for the four stars was the cigarette smoking in the play itself. Multiple times people were smoking in the play, which did not give anything to the show. It was very bothersome and painful for me. I was concerned it would cause me to have an asthma attack. I think if I came to a show again, I would definitely ask if they're smoking in the show. As this was the only show I've been to at this location. I don't know if it's a common thing or not. I would definitely recommend checking out this small community theater.

I don't recommend sitting in the first row as it's almost on the stage. The show was just really well done, I even teared up. I love the community and intimate feel of HITWT. The treats available for purchase were also super cute. If you ever see they're putting on a show that even slightly interests you, please go in support of this place but also to have a good time!

The production was absolutely fantastic, way beyond what I'd expected for a local theatre company. It's a cozy, intimate venue with a bring your own food option and in house bar (no outside beverages allowed) and extremely friendly owners and staff. The actors come into the audience, the sound quality and musical accompaniment was impressive. The only thing I'd note is that although you're told that the theatre opens at 5:30 that's only the bar area, if you want to eat inside the actual theatre area that doesn't open until 6:30 for a 7:30 show. It's a great place supporting local actors and we'll definitely we back to do our part!

One of my work buddies mentioned that a family member was appearing in a show here, so we decided to check it out last night. I had not heard of the Opera House Players before. I learned they had a pretty impressive history. They are a nonprofit volunteer-based community theater group dating back to 1968. Oh, and they specialize in musical theater and perform it exclusively, presenting four shows per season. Their shows are currently presented at the Enfield Annex (the old Enrico Fermi School) at 124 N. Maple Street, but they are planning a move to 100 High Street. We saw the show "Newsies" last night, and we were so impressed by the set, sound quality, orchestra, and the overall talent on the stage. There was a lot of talented folks up there, ranging from about 20 children, all the way up to a few senior citizens, like those who played Joseph Pulitzer and Theodore Roosevelt. Of course the real stars of the night were the children, who seemed to be singing and dancing all night long. A few of the kids capped off their dance moves with cartwheel, somersault, and handstand flourishes on top of their dances. It was quite an impressive display of young talent across the entire stage. Bravo!

Because it is a small, intimate theater, you can really appreciate facial expressions and hear vocals and dialogue. With the orchestra tucked up above the stage, you're wicked close to the action. I laughed, roared, snickered, choked back tears of sadness. As this was my first visit, you can be assured I'll be back. Get there early. You are in a residential area and must find on street parking. Bring cash for snacks. Also, there was a spontaneous auction of a handcrafted Repertory Theater mascot to raise funds. Owner and Artistic Director Kris McMurray Rocks the cabaret scene like no other. His choice of shows varies each season: there's a bit of drama, mystery, music and comedy. Lots of laughs! He has award winning artists, veteran performers and fresh newcomers that blend together in the most heartfelt winning way, you can see the genuine camaraderie of the actors. Tonight's show was Calendar Girls and what a great show it was! Based on the movie there were some touching moments, some uplifting moments and some down right laugh out loud moments! This show has been sold out for every show. There's a good reason for it! Kris will give you the option of purchasing one show at a time or if you purchase the season he graciously adds in a voucher to bring a friend free of charge. Can't hate that! Give it a look see! Yeah, we're fans. The Opera House is a magnificent historical landmark in Thomaston. We've been to…read moredozens of shows here (hosted by Landmark Community Theatre) and consistently come away with wonderful experiences. The shows are first-rate, whether locally produced or visiting artists, whether for adults or youngsters, and we plead prejudice since we've appeared on stage in a few of them. That aside, the staff here couldn't be friendlier and more helpful, the newly renovated interior is clean and lovely and the seating mostly comfortable (the leg room can get to be an issue without an intermission, however) and they have some nice snacks and drinks for patrons.
