I couldn't agree more with Misty K's review. The place is quaint to put it politely, but my two little girls ages 2&3 LOVED IT! I went ahead and bought a summer membership ($25 for the entire family) because it's a great place to get the kids out of the house on a rainy day. I could let my children go from room to room without worry of losing them. My husband travels a lot and I often don't take the kids out by myself unless I know it's a safe place. If you are a germaphobe this place will freak you out....if you are all about a small place with snakes, turtles, lizards, fish and toys older than you, then you'll like it. I would definitely call it a play house, not a museum. Wish the state or a wealthy owner would put some money into the place. The concept is great.

Nature walks, scavengers, animal exploration, dancing, team trust exercises. Everyone had a blast!

Girl Scout troop 4833 had a BLAST! The guides are very into what they do with the girls. Lots if experience with children and the Girl Scout program. Everything is hands on. Thank you for such a memorable experience. We will be back!

Every year Smithsonian sponsors Museum Day and unfortunately this year the choices for kid's museums was sparse, that'a how we ended up here. The Building (I refuse to call it a museum it's more of a dirty old trailer with some kids toys and a couple reptiles) is near a residential area and off of the parking area is a pathway that leads to an athletic field. When we first arrived and got a look of the outside of the place we knew we had made a terrible mistake, it is very run down and there was a pair of used sterile gloves on the porch railing (leading me to believe perhaps we should have worn haz mat suits). The group of us included my husband, sister, best friend and her fiance and her 3 kids - Sadie 9, Jordyn 7 and JT 5. We finally just decided to suck it up and go in, well myself and my sister took the kids in, my best friend walked out moments after entering, and we were greeted with the overwhelming smell of Chinese and Chicken Wings - the women at the front desk had plates overflowing with both and in a room we were told was a dress up room there was a table with food all over it and the children of the employees running around eating and touching everything getting it all greasy from the wings. We carefully walked thru each room, getting more disgusted by the minute but the kids wanted to play with the toys and look at the turtles so we sat for a moment and as I looked around everything was clearly old and broken and had not been taken very well care of. The animal's cages were disgusting, the paint was peeling off the walls, the screens were ripped from their frames, the carpet was stained and disgusting and the basement "music room" was in the middle of the employee kitchen that was filled with an assortment of expired canned goods and other foods and an overall health threat. I don't know how anyone could be comfortable allowing their kids to play with anything in the building plus there was no supervision in any of the rooms other than the parents present. Our total visit lasted less than 15 minutes and upon leaving I immediately slathered anti-bacterial lotion all over myself, sister and each of the kids. The outdoor play area is another accident waiting to happen. The Little Tikes style playsets weren't put together properly, there is a folded up ping pong table in what I assume at one time was little stools made to look like mushrooms that now teeter back and forth. The path takes you down to a stream that was heavily polluted and a large sign welcomed us letting us know to avoid contact with the water after the rain because of the high levels of bacteria. I simply cannot understand how the Health Department hasn't shut this place down, I was appalled and embarrassed for not doing better research on the place before planning our visit. The only reason this place has 1 star is because there is no option to leave 0, at best this place seems to me like a haphazard dump off for kids in the area. You really would have thought that knowing they were a part of the Smithsonian's Museum Day that they would want to do what they could to give a good impression but the staff clearly doesn't care and nor does whoever runs the place.

Dirty, old and broken toys, a door in back was cracked open so kids could exit easy. We went once and that was enough.

We stumbled across this place as we were driving through Annapolis. It was very dirty. That being said, my 20MO loved it.

So coming from those more upscale museums, I felt completely comfortable and cozy at the Chesapeake Children's Museum.

The staff member working when we visited (his name was Howard) was really friendly and helpful. He explained about the history of the building and recommended a path through the exhibits to get the most of out of our visit. We learned about a lot about the Chesapeake - its history, the its health and recovery... We learned a lot about oysters, too. There's a fun interactive game you can play where you balance oyster harvesting and the health of the Bay that entertained us (two adults nearing 40) for a while! Then there's a small gallery with photographs of the Bay and some outdoor exhibits, too. They offer sails on a certain days as well, so check out the schedule online before you visit if that's something you're interested in. It might be small, but it's a great little museum. Definitely worth a visit on a visit or trip to Annapolis.

What I noticed immediately was that the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. There was an event going on with the featured artist next door in the church building, but we were unable to stop by yet still enjoyed his artwork in the first room. Upstairs, we explored the history and watched a short historical video on the church. I really enjoyed how immersive and informative the museum was. It was a short but sweet trip and I learned a lot of new things about African American History in Maryland, which was awesome.

To the left, there is a room that contained several pieces from the Sacred Spaces exhibition, by Jabari Jefferson, of collages ftom found items. There was very good signage in this room to introduce the overall exhibit. From there, we went upstairs and to the left, to see the historical exhibits about African American history in Maryland, in Annapolis, and around the Chesapeake. These exhibits were very well done, and several had audio presentations. We spent quite a but of time there, because there was a good amount of detail to absorb. After making the historical exhibit loop, we went back into the foyer and across to the other side, where you actually enter the historic Mt Moriah AME church building. This big open space makes an amazing art gallery, with exhibits on two levels. It was really well lit and curated. We thought it was wonderful.

I just visited the U.S. Naval Academy Museum for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I was…read morereally impressed. The museum is located in Preble Hall on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy, so you'll need to check in/go through security at the visitor entrance (they check ID and run your bags through a metal detector), but it was very fast. Then it's just a quick walk over to Preble Hall. When we entered, we welcomed to the museum by two docents, who briefly explained what could be found in the museum, including their favorite parts of the collection (which was perfect, because we had less than hour in the museum before they closed). The museum is two floors. The first floor has exhibits on the development of the Navy and the history of the Naval Academy. The second floor houses an incredible collection of models of warships from the 17th-19th centuries (one of the largest collections of ship models). I wasn't sure this would be that interesting to me, but the docents had really highlighted this part of the collection during their introduction. I'm so glad we trusted them, because it was fascinating. One part of this collection really blew me away - the bone model display. It might sound morbid, but these models were carved from the bones of beef rations given to French prisoners of war during their incarceration in England (Anglo-French wars of 1756-1815). I had no idea about any of this history (does anyone?!), and it was really interesting. But the first floor also had amazing artifacts, and I learned a lot. Overall, this museum (also free, by the way) was pretty great. Even if you're not typically interested in naval history, this museum is special. It's well-curated and interesting. And those docents were wonderful! I'm sure I'll be back to take in what I didn't have time to on my first visit!
