Wow! My time during the trip. Check in was easy just because my parents have already checked us all in ahead of time. We just had to pick up our keys and go over the rules. The A/C was very nice in the cabin. There are some patches on the floor and roof that need fixed. There were areas that needed a deep clean. Now the pool and the shower houses are clean. The laundry areas are also very nice. The old hotel/ pool attached is an eye sore. Walking to the main office you will see the state of it. The staff was kind and they were always out and about. The beach was small but a good place to be. The sights are tight and could be updated. We would stay again but it just needs a few updates. read more

We stayed at this KOA for the Labor Day weekend. FYI, I can honestly state that the overall condition of this campground has gotten worse. Firstly, the campground was overcome with swamp flies, nats, and mosquitoes. You could not go anywhere where you were not repeatedly attacked by the swamp flies. The trash bins throughout the compound were overflowing with trash and debris which did not help with the insect infestation AND no effort was made to remedy this situation. The common area bathrooms were not routinely cleaned...there was trash everywhere and the toilet/shower areas were disgusting and in need of TLC. The pool area was ok, but the water looked like it was not properly filtered and cloudy at times. The condition of the tents, cabins look like they have not been kept and require exterior painting and upkeep. The beach area was clean but the one trash can was overflowing as well. The one restaurant on the premises is expensive and short on staff...I waited for over 45 minutes before my presence was acknowledged and or served. Finally, the Sunset Hotel looks old and abandoned, which does not help with the overall impression. In closing, this KOA has seem better days and it used to be one of our favorite RV destination. I think that the management team needs to access the condition of this campground and commit the necessary resources (money, maintenance, upkeep) to bring it up to the standards that it set when it first opened up as a KOA property. I will be hard pressed to return until changes for improvement have been implemented. read more

I brought my two kids, my dog, and my husband last weekend for July 4th. We stayed in a Safari Tent for 6 nights. When we arrived our tent had trash, dirty socks, dirt, wrappers from the previous people, etc. Our sheets had stains on them. We cleaned everything up and asked for new sheets. Six people can stay in this tent and they only gave me two towel sets. I read that water would be provided for the room. I didn't see any. We arrived on a Thursday (right before the busy July 4th weekend) at that time the bathrooms were clean...then it went from to clean to straight disgusting. They had no one cleaning the bathrooms the whole weekend... DURING a holiday weekend! I didn't even want to go in there! Especially with my two kids. My kids wanted to go to Happy Jacks the first couple of nights. They were closed. We had ask the front desk if anyone was working....they said there usually someone there...but no one for two days. When we used the bathroom in the check in area...all the toilets were gross and there was human waste smeared on the wall. Seriously, bathrooms need to be checked on frequently. Ice machines were always out of order. Although we were having issues with cleanliness...we did have fun at the beach. It was a nice location...and pet friendly. Kids loved the jump pad, the playground and the pool. Dog park was nice and spacious. They provided doggie bags. The kids liked the craft activities. I also wanted to note, that it did storm one night and the beams in the tent were shaking. Its not as sturdy as I would like. One ceiling fan didn't work nor did the light. We had one fan working and the light that came with it. We had no extra lights. This KOA was not prepared for guests and didn't have a clean eye for cleanliness. For how much I paid. I expected a clean experience. read more

If you're visiting Cape Charles, this KOA needs to seriously be at the top of your list of places to lodge. Not only do they offer a ton of different lodging options (tent camping, RV, cabins, glamping, or hotel rooms), they have a ton of activities on-site, a restaurant with a beach view, full bathroom facilities, and access to Sunset Beach! The tent camping is in the same area as the RV's, which seemed weird at first, but it wasn't a big issue besides the sites being very close to each other. It actually might be a benefit for tent campers because the bathroom facilities were never packed, the showers were always available, and the facilities were pretty clean considering the number of guests there. If you come with a family there are plenty of activities for everyone. There's a pool, children's playground, indoor games, a bar that serves adult beverages, beach access, and even karaoke on Friday nights! The best part of the campground is having access to your own "private" beach. Sunset Beach is located right on-site and is only a short walk from the campground. I was shocked by how clean the beach was and how warm and clear the water was, I felt like I was in the Caribbean! If you can only do one thing during your stay, make sure you don't miss the sunset from the beach! It's a breathtaking view and perfect way to end the day after hanging out at the beach. Whether you come in a RV, plan to tent camp, or stay in one of the rooms or cabins, I guarantee you'll enjoy your still at one of the best KOA's I've ever visited! read more

We just completed our fifth annual three-day stay at Cape Charles KOA. We love this location, but the rapid decline in maintenance has reached a dangerous breaking point. In five years, I have never left a complaint, but the hazardous conditions in the cabins forced me to speak up. (Note: See attached photos of the mold/mushrooms).As a professional house cleaner by trade, I look at facilities with an expert eye. The current upkeep fails basic industry safety and sanitation standards:Structural & Sanitation Hazards: There is a dangerous 2x2 foot dip in the bathroom subfloor right between the door and the toilet, poorly covered by laminate. Combined with active mold and wild mushrooms growing along the shower tub, this indicates severe, unaddressed water rot.Extenuating Cleaning Costs: The cabin sanitation and linens were so poor that I had to drive 20 minutes back home across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to grab my own professional cleaning supplies and bedding. This cost us precious vacation time and extra peak weekend tolls just to make a paid cabin safe. Neglected Pool Safety: During extreme heat, the pool was packed with nearly 100 guests. No staff checked the pH levels, and a severe lack of umbrellas left families unprotected from the sun. Severe Understaffing: At checkout, the line was backed up out the door with only a single employee working the desk. Prices continue to rise every year while cleanliness and safety plummet. Management must urgently replace the rotting bathroom floors and invest in deep cleaning before a guest gets seriously injured. read more

I loved this KOA. The pool was amazing, the facilities were clean and we weren't bunched up with a bunch of other people. I also really loved their beach area. It is just a really cool set up with a bar and restaurant close by. I sat out there and ate a hot dog and watched the clouds roll in. I just am coming off a 17 RV stop trip and this was one of my favorites. read more

Our 2-night stay was ruined because they shut off the water the morning after our first night. They told us it would be turned back on in a "couple hours" or "few hours," depending on who you talked to. Then I found an email in my junk folder promising the water would be turned back on at 5:00 PM. It's 5:19--and still no water. More over, the email said the water would be shut off again at 9 AM when checkout is at 11 AM, which means we can't sleep in on vacation if we want to wash up in the morning. When I talked to Kathy at the front desk, she said no compensation to guests would be forthcoming because the water shut-off was unexpected. (When is water shut-off ever expected?) She would not tell me whether it was corporate or the franchisee whom I should contact. She would not give me the contact information for the franchisee, claiming she did not know it. She and the owner must understand that when people fork over their hard-earned money for what is advertised on their website--which includes running water--the KOA must either perform or be prepared to give customers some compensation when the promise is not delivered. Unlawful and unprofessional. read more

This was our 1st visit at the campground. We drove up to the welcome center and my husband passed out. He started shaking and I screamed for help. 3 of the Koa employees came running to our rescue. They jumped right In and without hesitation helped us. Thank you stephany, shryle and liz!!!! What great people and I can't thank them enough. They took care of our golden retriever while I went to hospital. Also shyrl spoke with my daughter and assured they had it all under control. Love all of them. read more

The staff is very kind and helpful. Neither pool was open (although we had a few days of 80+ degree weather), but they did say they didn't open until the end of May. However, for as much money as we spend, we were at least looking for a "clean" beach, fitness center and SUP and kayak rentals. They don't have a fitness center and (which isn't advertised), they will not take any SUP or kayak's down to the beach for us. And they were on a trailer. So it's not that they would have to carry them. And it's not that they're short of staff. They said they won't be available until Memorial Day and they don't have anyone here to take them down to the beach (although there must be at least 20 staff members). We were very disappointed. Yesterday and today are perfect for these activities. Also, the beach is not clean. We spoke to some of the staff and they said they're suppose to clean it, but that never happened. Wear shoes because we found some sharp glass! The grass has stickers all over the place so watch your furr babies and wear shoes around the campsite. You may want to put some mats down too. There's trees, but no shade. For the money we spent, I would at least expect the beach to be clean and the kayaks and SUP's to be available. We could have stayed down the road for much cheaper with more shade and more activities (Kiptopeke State Park) . I'm not saying it wasn't relaxing and the staff was nice, but just not for us for the amount of money we spent. read more

We've been coming here for years, and we always stay in their Safari tent at the back of the resort by the pool. These have always been very affordable, so any issues we might encounter could be overlooked because of the low price we were paying. That's not the case anymore, and to be honest, this week's stay was the worst I've experienced. It's sad to say, but we will not be coming back again. First, our Safari tent was filthy, and I don't mean dirty floors. Because it's a tent with a 2X6 floor, I expect dirt and sand, but I mean the last guests were just not picked up after. We had slim Jim wrappers all over the place, and the refrigerator smelled like rotting meat. There was also items in the fridge left from the previous guests, but I'm pretty sure that was not where the smell was coming from. The tents sleep 6, and we brought 6 people total, but we only had two shower towels. Our first day here, we called the front office to request four more towels, and got nothing. We requested towels the second day... still nothing. We are on day three, and they still haven't brought us more towels, so six people have been sharing two towels. All of that is superficial, and I can look beyond it all, but the huge issue is that the men's bathrooms just simply ARE NOT being cleaned. I mean, AT ALL! As soon as you walk in, the smell of urine smacks you in the face. When you walk a little further, it gets worse, but then you see the rest of the filth. Used toilet paper and paper towels piled up everywhere, toilet paper dispenser covers ripped off the walls and thrown around, and disposable plastic water bottles are all scattered everywhere. To top it all off, the cleaning check sheet on the door was dated July 10th, and it wasn't even completed for that day. Today is the 13th. So, if I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, the men's restrooms haven't been fully cleaned since the 9th. Haven't been fully cleaned in 4 days? With hundreds of people using them a day? This staff just doesn't care and their management is weak if that's the case. As disgusting as that is, the smell of raw sewage is the straw that breaks the proverbial camel's back here. Their sewage treatment facility (right beside the bathrooms) just cannot handle the demand I'm guessing because the entire backside of this "resort" smells like straight raw sewage. My gag reflexes kick into overtime whenever I walk into or out of the bathrooms, and even sitting at our tent is a struggle. So if you read my previous Yelp review of the Sunset Beach Resort, you'll notice that I admit that the place has flaws, but they are expected, and the low cost of the stay outweighs the flaws. Well, not anymore. We're done here. We won't be back. If you're coming with your own RV, have at it. You'll probably have a better experience, but if you're relying on this careless staff in any way, you will be disappointed. read more

Chesapeake Bay KOA - Apparently they started cleaning the bathroom 3 days ago but just couldn't figure out how to finish anything. - RV Parks Near Me - Cape Charles, Virginia

2020 has dealt us a bad hand! With everything that's going on I needed a getaway while still staying safe, staying away from COVID hot spots, etc. I wanted sun & sand so I opted for the great outdoors. I found this place by accident, but am GLAD I did. I didn't even know renting an RV (on-site) was an option. AND, I could bring my dog?! I call that a WIN. I was actually researching the Chincoteague KOA, but this one actually has a dog beach and is overall pet friendly. There were a lot of pet families so consider that when planning your trip. My dog loved it. He even learned that he could swim and enjoyed playing with the other dogs & crabs. What I loved most was the beach of course. As mentioned above, there's a (designated) dog beach to the right, but in actuality it seems the entire beach is dog friendly. To allow Toby to be off leash I would walk to the far left side of the beach. We walked down and back (towards the bridge) or we'd set up the chair & umbrella out there so I could float and he could hang out off-leash without bothering anybody. Also, during low-tide (after 4pm) you can walk out to the sand bars. It's amazing. That's also when my & other dog owners let our dogs run off-leash on the sand bar. Good times! They have hammocks on the beach, a bar/restaurant (Jackspot), and kayaks/paddle boards available to rent. That breeze off the water is just different and feels GREAT! Not to mention the calming sound of the water hitting the beach. The main draw back was how close the RV's are situated together!! And I mean CLOSE to the point where you're wondering, is this my fire pit or theirs? When I arrived I had lots of room for Toby & I to walk around my spot. As the week went on more people/RV's arrived and I started to feel cramped! Yeah, we're CLOSE! Everybody is all in your business. Secondly was the AC in the RV. Don't get me wrong I probably would have been miserable without it, but it was loud. I could hardly sleep the first night and ended up using my pillow the drown out the noise (and even tried turning it off and suffering through the night). The second night I was tired from being out in the sun all day and slept right through the noise. But it is loud. On the 3rd night the power went out. I was kinda thankful for the quiet with no AC and it was cool enough to sleep. But I'm glad to say the power came back on 30 minutes later. Overall I had a great adventure with my dog (and a co-worker who was also there and a friend who came later). The RV had a microwave, kitchen sink, refrigerator, coffee pot, shower (and the water was HOT), and a tv with cable! You step out to a wooden deck with table and chairs. There's also a picnic table, a fire ring and a grill. It also comes equipped with a retractable awning to provide shade. But, bring your own beach umbrella as they do not provide those. I'd definitely come back. I think I'll try the little cabin next time. They have 2 pools and one of them is at the (on-site) hotel/motel. It was a nice respite from the COVID groundhog day routine. read more

I have been coming to this campground for 5 years now and have enjoyed every minute camping here. But this year has changed my mind. I don't if there is new management here or what but the changes I've seen so far I will not be coming back I'll go to KOA OBX WEST before I come back here again. The first thing is there is no longer any CAR parking at the beach you have to either hump all your stuff to the beach via walking or imo what they are trying to get people to do is rent golf carts ( marketing scam for them to make more money) because only golf cart parking is allowed now. There has never been any parking issues in the past 5 years and we come about the same time each year. . After making numerous trips back and forth that's no vacation! Then they stopped the trash pick. But the prices haven't gone down any. Then they want to charge for reserving specific sites even if it's available at the time of booking. SMH It's money, money, Money. Come on give people a break! Oh and the staff is nowhere as friendly as they used to be. Resort fees of $10.00 a day? I could see if had a water park or some other sort of activities that everyone uses but this place has gone to hell corporate greed has taken over. read more

My mother has been planning a trip with her 4 grandchildren for the first week they are all out of school. She booked a glamping tent for the 10th to the 14th of June at the Cape Charles/Chesapeake Bay campground KOA in the middle of April and received her confirmation. She just received a phone call on June 6th saying that they now have a special event going on during her reservation and that she would have to purchase a $40 ticket for her and her 4 grandkids ($200 extra) or don't come. So now here they are, all excited for this adventure, time off of her job and all the planning that has been done with nowhere to stay unless she pays for an event that apparently was set up AFTER the reservations my mother made. We stay with the seasonal group here at the KOA. There was recently a problem with our water over the Memorial Day weekend. There were concerns that we would not be able to have water until after the holiday. Mike and Joe worked relentlessly on Monday morning and had the problem fixed by 9:45am! They really went above and beyond! Josh and Candy in the front office have been fantastic at making sure that we are informed of all changes in service. read more

Stayed here one night last year on way to SC and decided to make it a destination for a week. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lobby has little place that cooks breakfast sandwiches, wings, pizza and more - and will deliver to your site. Store well stocked and open 24/7. Beach is clean and a good size with a gradual slope in the water, which is good for little ones. Waterfront restaurant being renovated so wasn't open in April, but last year we ate there and was very good. Opening in May 2023, I believe. Pools open in early May and look clean. Bouncy bag for kids near the motel (which also has a pool). The kids that were there seemed to be having a blast. Rv sites level, clean, decent room between sites. They have glamping tents and many cabins, too. Large and well maintained dog park. Highly recommend!! read more

I stayed here for the first time this weekend in a safari tent, which is like a hotel room (at a hotel room's price) set up in large tent. It's something I've wanted to do for a while, so I was really excited. Here's my experience. The atmosphere: Pro- The atmosphere is fun and resort like. There are planned activities and most of the other visitors are very friendly. Dog owners and lovers unite on walks around the grounds and on the beach. If you're looking for a quiet nature-filled camping experience, don't come here. There is a beach restaurant that has dances some evenings. Con- On weekend evenings there were a few groups of grown adults reliving their spring break days. It got a little wild. Quiet hours are not enforced as far as I can tell. Safari Tent: Pro- It's spacious, comfortable and attractive. It is conveniently located close to the pool, beach, and bathrooms. The mini fridge is a life saver. There's a safe for valuables. Con- The tents on the end are right next to the water treatment plant and the dumpsters. Those that are closest to it have a unpleasant view and sometime quite an unpleasant smell. They should plant tall shrubbery between the tents and the ugliness. Staff: Pro- Most of my in person interactions with the front desk were pleasant and efficient. Most, but not all. Cons- Interactions with staff on the grounds were not so pleasant. (I have been to many resorts and I like the way staff at those places generally greet guests, wish them a good day, and are approachable.) If you want help, you have to chase someone down and endure a surly attitude. Maintenance/Housekeeping Pro: - The beach and pool area is attractive and bright. They clearly put a lot of effort into providing an island atmosphere. - The bath houses are VERY air conditioned, so it's a pleasant place to take a shower and get out of the heat for a few minutes. Cons: - The pool bathrooms were closed for our ENTIRE four day stay. So guests in the pool or restaurant area had to take a long walk to the other corner of the campground for the bathroom. - Our TV cable was snapped (or cut?) so we had no TV. I reported it, but no one came to fix it. - Although we were provided with towels and washcloths upon arrival, no one ever came to refresh them or even check up on us. At hotel room prices, I would expect hotel room service. - The bathrooms, while generally clean, were not fully serviced during my stay. Soap dispensers that were empty or low on my first day were also empty on my last day. Toilet paper was also getting scarce. Would I stay here again? I think I would, but I would be fearful of getting the tents by the dumpsters and poop-plant which would ruin my stay. read more

We just returned from a week at this KOA and visit it 2-3 times each year. Prior to this trip, we were there for a long weekend at the beginning of May. There are many pros to staying here including the following: 1. It has a private beach which is dog-friendly all day year round. 2. Full hook-ups with cable. 3. Multiple activities planned each day. This is especially true during holidays and peak season. 4. Camp store is open 24 hours. 5. There is a restaurant (Jackspot), cafe (serves ice cream, coffee, bagels, and hot dogs), dump station, and propane refill on site. 6. It's conveniently located near the town of Cape Charles, a quick ten-minute drive. The town has a few local restaurants, ice cream shop, brewery, bakeries, candy store, and local shops. It also has a free fishing pier and a public beach. 7. Staff are friendly. They run a golf cart shuttle service during busy times (4th of July) and will give folks rides from one end of the campground to the other. 8. Lots of camping options--safari tents, rental RVs, cabins, big-rig sites, patio sites, pull-throughs, and back-ins. 9. Bath houses were cleaned on a regular basis. We've stayed in a Skipjack pull-through, Half shell back-in by the trees, and a Skipjack back-in. All are fine, but the Skipjack back-in was probably my favorite. It was centrally located and priced lower than the pull-through with alot of space. The Half shell site provided shade, but was also a mess with all of the pine needles and sap. Now for the biggest con and the reason for the star deduction--the laundry facilities. There are two laundry facilities, one at each end of the campground. Each contains 4 washers and dryers. Of the eight total, only 5 washers and 4 dryers were working. This campground was packed for the 4th if July holiday with most families staying at least a week at a time and folks struggled to wash and dry their towels, clothes, etc. This wasn't a new issue either as I ran across a few of the seasonal campers while I waited who complained that maintenance was never performed on the laundry facilities. Also, machines were out of order during our May visit. Overall, it's a nice park. However, I would advocate for repairs to the laundry facilities. It's frustrating to spend an entire day of your week's vacation waiting on just a handful of operational machines (especially when it's sunny and in the 90s outside). read more

Well the campground itself was nice .sites were a little close together .. but the problem was the security for the band that was playing were treating paying guest like a night club ... the guy mike the head of security tried to fight me and my family (while the kids were there ) because they had a designated section for seasonals (which there were no signs ) we also follwed the crowd in putting our chairs out early so we could get good seats .. we put our chairs out at 2 pm when the band starting setting up .. well while we were sitting there the security gaurd i belive his name was mike came over and started cussing not knowing at this point that we werent seasonals saying whos fffing golf carts are thses and proceeded to get on our golf carts trying to move them it was at this point when i said we will move he said yea yall better move before i move you .... Nice pool and nice small beach area. $30 to rent a cabana half day. Wow! It wasn't like this last year. Front pool closed all week. Small eatery in gift shop closed all week. Motel room FILTHY and severely run down bathroom. Zero daily cleaning. We we're given towels only twice. Jack spot? What happened? Increased prices by 1/3 and the food was not as good. It is now to go. No ambience. On our last day we went to visit cherrystone camp and it looked. Ice. We will try this place next time. Last year we stayed in the rv and the beds are very very hard. It's just plywood and a thin foam on top. Bathroom smelled like sewage during all our stay and flies were everywhere. It was not a good experience. We had to put a towel on the bathroom door at the bottom to block the smell and flies. We gave it a second chance this year but this time at the motel and it was worst. Again flies everywhere coming out of somewhere every day from the bathroom. read more

The town of cape Charles was really fun to visit. The KOA campground not so great. I was here for Memorial Day weekend. The pools had no water, the pizza stand was closed because the health department was pending inspection. The food in the water front restaurant was not open until Saturday. They didn't have their liquor license. And these sites are on top of each other. My fire ring was four feet from the car next to me so I couldn't burn a fire without fear it would catch something on fire. The ice machine was not working, asked for help and they said call the 800 number because they belong to an outside vendor. When the amenities listed said delivered ice to the site. I give it a 2 out of 5. read more

We just returned from a 7 day stay at this campground. We arrived on a Saturday and our site was the only open spot. The sites are very tight and there is very little to no privacy. We really didn't mind that because everyone seemed to keep to themselves or were very friendly. The bathhouses were nice a cool and clean for the most part but I am not sure they were actually cleaned the entire time we were there. Paper towels that were empty stayed empty the entire week. Hair that was on shower walls stayed the entire week and sand that was all over the floor was never cleaned up. There is a nice beach that is dog friendly. The pool by the beach was really nice but they may want to consider changing the music up a bit. We ate at the Jackspot our first night. There was only a short wait but we waited forever for our food. The food was pretty good though. They make this corn on the cob with salt and lime that is delicious. The campground has the most amazing sunsets I've seen! Our biggest complaint about the entire place was the golf cart rentals. They are first come first serve. When we checked in we were told there were none available and to return on Sunday at noon. We returned Sunday at noon and were very rudely told they had no golf carts available even after we watched half of the park check out at 11 and there were about 30 golf carts sitting in the back. We asked when they would be available and were told they had no idea they needed to be charged (which is BS bc when you are renting one you are charging it every night on your site) and cleaned (which takes all of 5 mins) and to check back in a couple hours. We returned 3 more times that day and were told the same thing. The last time we asked we were told to come back tomorrow. We returned on Monday and were told nope none available. We finally were able to rent a golf cart on Tuesday. We shouldn't have to waste our time going to the camp store every couple of hours to get a gold cart to rent. There has got to be a better system. People who stay at the hotel are able to reserve golf carts but the campground visitors are first come first serve. It just seems like they had zero interest in putting forth the effort to let people who wanted to rent golf carts rent them. I'm not exactly sure what the problem was but they acted like they were being inconvenienced. The staff in the camp store were not very friendly at all and their customer service is horrendous. All in all I doubt we will ever stay at this campground again. There is literally nothing around unless you want to travel over the bridge into Virginia Beach and the people who worked there were not very friendly. read more

Let me first say how much I hate writing this review, but it is a necessary review. This KOA has been my go-to vacation spot for 4 or 5 years. I found it by accident but instantly fell in love. I've always had great service and a wonderful stay. Now the bad news. I stayed at the end of July and the stay started great. However, about halfway through the week long stay, we discovered some food items in packages had been nibbled on! These food items were in a bowl on top of the kitchen counter, just for reference! So we went through all the food and found more and more and more! The rodent, had even gotten into the bag holding my dog's food. Now this bag was hanging off a knob on the other side of the fridge, so not on the floor for those wondering! The worst part, I use a CPAP machine and given the smaller space of the cabin rental it resides near the floor in the bunkbed room. Well after inspecting the cabin, we found droppings near and next to my machine, which means that my medical equipment has now been contaminated. So, here I am stuck in a cabin (they were full, couldnt move), with a loss of some food, some dog food, and my medical equipment. I had a few conversations with the manager to which he responded yea the mice have been a problem this year. Umm what...so you know you have a mice problem, but have NO traps on site, and no plan of action. I get it we are near the woods and water, its expected. However, your responses and lack of action are not expected. We didn't care about the food. We cared about my damn medical equipment that I had to now replace and be without for over a week. I had to reorder everything attached to my CPAP machine. And with the shortages and shipping delays (yes not their fault) I had to wait over a week for some parts because of where I had ordered them from. And now I was out over $300 in medical supplies that did not need to be replaced for a few months! We were told that things would be made right. Okay, upon check out there was nothing, so I asked for the manager and was told he wasn't in at the time. So, the assistant manager said she would follow up on things. Well, we got a measly $80 refund! I'm sorry, my vacation was essentially ruined, I'm out an extra $300, and you gave me $80! So, I followed up with calls to say how dissatisfied I was and if someone could please call me back. Well, no one ever reached out, and nothing was resolved to my satisfaction. So now I'm writing this review. Before I get heat, let me say, it wasn't about the money, its about customer service! If I worked in a vacation hot spot, I would be apologetic and offer something worthwhile. The manager could have offered a steep discount on our next stay, refunded part of our stay, something. Over $300 of lost medical equipment! I was without a vital piece of medical equipment! The inaction, the poor response, just has left a really bad taste in my mouth for this place and I now tell people to avoid it! We paid over $2000 for a week-long vacation and had a horrible experience with mice in the living space! I don't think I will be going back to this KOA and would think long and hard about other KOA's! read more

We really enjoy our time at Chesapeake Bay KOA in Cape Charles. We have been twice each of the last two seasons. In fact we are returning for the 4th of July this year. The majority of sites are well spaced. The bathrooms/showers were in great shape! The staff is very accommodating and eager to help. They have plenty of activities for the family. They hosted a pot luck dinner the last time we were there. They cooked hot dogs and hamburgers and asked others to bring sides. It was a great way to meet other campers and have some great food. They also brought a band in for the event. Jackspot is a nice touch. Plenty of outdoor seating. Room to host cornhole tournaments during the summer. They have a nice beach on the bay. The far right side is dog friendly. It is nice to be able to bring the pets to the beach. They have a large pool that is refreshing if the bay isn't your thing. We will continue to return multiple times a year. read more

Chesapeake Bay KOA - Sunset over the bay. - RV Parks Near Me - Cape Charles, Virginia

Will not stay here again. For the price, we expected and should have received - more service a comfortable bed and a cleaner camper. We rented a camper at an expensive rate for what we received (more than $1,900 for the week). Saturday Day 1 - Saying the camper (#29) was dirty is an understatement. We took pictures of the torn window blinds and the filth for the staff to see, afterwards they did send someone to clean. But even after the cleaning it was still dirty so we bought wipes and cleaned it ourselves. The air conditioner was so filthy that we were afraid of getting legionnaires disease so we cleaned it as well. The bed was much too hard and uncomfortable and the noise from air conditioner becomes unbearable. There was one towel and one wash cloth in the camper for three of us with no room service. Sunday Day 2 - an unbearable smell coming from the tiolet caused us to complain to the staff again. A staff member told me that odors like that are expected in the campers. I replied by letting her know that we owned a camper for more then 20 years and never experienced anything like that. Needless to say something had to be replaced in the tiolet. We moved to another camper (#22) and was told that we would have to move back to camper 29 on Friday. We made it clear that was unacceptable that we should not have to move again and we didn't. Other then the tiolet, Camper 22 was no different then camper 29. It was just as dirty, the air conditioner was just as dirty and loud and the bed was just as hard. Lets not forget the ketchup that was splattered all over the window blinds and the smell from the water treatment plant, dumpsters and fish cleaning station is an unpleasant smell that lingers all day and night. If we were not with other family members who had their own camper we would have requested a refund and checked out on day 2. read more

Tent Rental: absolutely beautiful they have two beds, a night stand, a wardrobe dresser, a trash can, a coffee table and a sofa bed. I would say it sleeps 6 adults (2adults for each bed) probably more if you're sleeping children. They only have about 5 tents and they are conveniently located by the side of the pool and in front of a children's playground with a short walk to the private sunset beach. Must walk to restrooms. RV rental: Prowler. Dog friendly. Inside includes two triangle beds (bunk bed concept) with bedding, a full bathroom with a half sized bathtub, hotel size soap, conditioner, body wash, lotion, a fully functional kitchen with storage containers, plating for 6, utensils, grill utensils set, microwave, toaster, fridge, stove, oven, sink, dry rack, cloths to dry and wipe, dish soap ,sponge, tissue paper. They have a bench table to eat in, a leather sofa bed, a queen size bed with a curtain divider for privacy. Air conditioning two small hang up closets on both sides of the bed. Outdoor they have a wood patio with cute colorful patio furniture and a couple steps away is a picnic table as well. They also include the metal ring to start a fire with (it doesn't have the metal grate the store sells that though if you want to bbq) Beach: nice private little beach with a bar connected to it Bar: fairly decent a bit pricey but that's efficient for convenience I suppose. Indoor and outdoor seating available, outdoor seating overlooking the beach available as well they have cornhole too and a restroom. Pool: 2-5ft pool tiny fountain splash area for kids. Bring lifejackets and floaties for the children. There is NO lifeguard on duty enter at your own risk. Restrooms are located beside the pool. They do have chairs and gazebos. BRING BUG SPRAY or get eaten up by gnats and flys. Store: Overpriced but you pay for convenience. Staff are friendly. They sell food, souvenirs, clothing, etc Dog park: decent sized fenced area to let your dog run free, they have doggy bags in front to pickup after your dog Kids park: it's a nice little jungle gym They do weddings there too by the kids park behind the tents just a FYI to anyone looking into it I seen them setup a few times Typically I would give this place 5 stars since we frequent here numerous times a year but this time it'll be the last time. I'm only giving it three stars because an incident occurred in which a security guard went on a power trip rant and tried to get military members and their families kicked out at nighttime because the security wife and the security guard approached military guests with cellphone cameras on record telling them to go back in their RVs and when genuinely asked who he was and what he was doing there the security guard stated he was the man who can get them kicked out of that place that's who he was. Very unprofessional approach so a military member told them F off and the security pressed to fight that one member. Women had to intervene so that no fight occurred. Management was called to which the very tired manager apologized on behalf of his employee when the situation was explained and the security guard stated he acted that way because he was intimidated by the size of the military guests. Also only 3 stars because I got eaten alive by the insects they need to treat their lawn to avoid that issue as well as the RV was dirty, found an afropick under the sofa bed with dirty crusted sheets, dust & wrappers. My toddler picked up a dirty steak knife that was located under the sofa bed and poked her brother with it so I was livid about that because had the room been cleaned correctly that would have been avoided and because it could have been far worse had I not immediately intervened. Tips: royal farms & food lion up the road purchase food there. Restaurants nearby 15mins away they have Daredevil pizza(family friendly) Kelly's pub (wings are overpriced here but decent 24wings for $35) read more

This place has really deteriorated in the last year or so. We have a 33' travel trailer. One of the things that KOA (Blue Water) did was install full hookups in the tent sites. That absolutely does not make them RV sites. We squeezed our 33' rig with 3 slides into one of those sites. Unacceptable. The bathhouse (men's side) was absolutely disgusting. One night one of the toilets was absolutely destroyed if you know what I mean, the next stall had half a pizza in the box wedged in the bowl and then someone did their business on top of the pizza. The best part of this campground is the beach. But now getting to the beach has gotten more difficult because the woman who runs the restaurant above the beach no longer allows beach goers to walk across the deck and down the steps to access the beach. Unfortunately we won't be coming back for another visit to this campground. I would like to shout-out maintenance who helped us with a water pressure problem. Also Joshua and Patrick were awesome. read more

Very friendly staff and beautiful beach. We ate at the restaurant Jackspot. Staff was friendly and food was very good. The food was a bit expensive. After eating we enjoyed the beach with our dog. It was a little steep walking down to the dog area of the beach. It was really nice that dogs were allowed on the beach. Also, the bathrooms near the restaurant were not the cleanest. Bathrooms near the pool area were in good condition. Also would have been nice to have more than 1 shower to rinse off near beach entrance. Overall, we would go back. read more

Don't stay here if you want to camp next to your friends! We booked last November for a July stay and specifically said we wanted to be next to our friends who made their reservation the same day. They told us that wouldn't be a problem. I called back twice as we got closer to confirm we were next to our friends and they said yes, although they wouldn't tell us our site numbers. Fast forward to arrival and our friends are five sites away! Manager didn't seem to care and said "well, you're both in the same section so you're close". Dishonest and all about the money. Not coming back! read more

Stayed in our RV in the blue point area along the chain link fence. The fence area could use some "sprucing up" but it's the only area in the entire park with some shade. The sites could also use some maintenance as most of the green mesh ground covers are torn up and a trip hazard. That said, everything else was almost perfect. Beach is small and you need aqua shoes to wade into the water. Good Cell on Verizon and adequate WiFi if the park is not too crowded. Pool, bath houses and laundry clean and modern. BUT, and I hope management is reading this, you can not reserve a spot and when we got there just after check in time we were put in a spot with an electrical panel and a big electrical box. The area was less than half full with more open spots that occupied but we were still given that spot. We have a 29 ft travel trailer and after 2 attempts to clear the box the staff member realized we were not going to fit. He got us another spot further down the row and the trailer fit perfectly. So, and I'm hoping management reads this..... WHY since you can't reserve a spot do you put people is this spot (the only one in the entire row with this box) when you have soooooo many others! This type of spot should be the very last one used AFTER the entire area is full. read more

customer service is not at all their strong suit. everyone seems to have an attitude whenever you talk to them about anything. things that aren't initially a problem randomly are against the rules with them. for instance we came to stay with my girlfriends family and got our own guest pass for our car and parked at the campsite. on our last night here someone came and told us to move it because we can't have 2 cars apparently. why give us the guest pass? why do we have to move on the LAST night? just one annoying thing after another with the employees. the only nice lady was the one behind the ice cream counter so props to her lol. not super kid friendly if you're kids are in to having fun as well. read more

This is strictly from an RV perspective, Class A with TOAD. Mostly this is a large mowed field with sites featuring water, electric, cable, and sewer. WIFI was strong. There are sites tagged as patio sites because they have a wooden deck and gravel to park on. There is an additional charge for them. There is no shade or trees here and mud/sand can be a problem. Sites are on narrow side, so there is little privacy. Personnel started mowing grass at 7:15 - YEAH! Restrooms/showers were clean and beach and pool nice. I would not go out of my way to go back. read more
