Dr. Cheryl Gottesfeld is an Arlington gem. I have been visiting her office for over nearly 15 years intermittently whenever I have had a back issue or some problem with shoulder pain. Her understanding of back pain problems is deep and thorough and she combines this with an insightful, and upbeat bedside manner. She is a very positive person and takes a "let's fix this" approach. She has an uncanny ability to feel around and isolate the exact cause of the pain through her touch and feel diagnosis. She targets the exact section of the joint or vertebra that is the source of the pain. She is very confident in her abilities to work on spinal adjustments and if I have trusted her for 15 years I think that says a lot. (For perspective, please note, that I have seen different style of chiropractors, massage therapists, accupuncturists all with varying degrees of success at various points in my life, but I still see value in coming back to see Dr. Gottesfeld if the situation warrants it and for comparative approaches.) She works on you with a 'healers' understanding of the issues your backpain is arising from. Mechanically, her adjustments are really fantastic; she takes a full body approach, and there is a sense that you are in healing hands. Personally, I have always felt instant/overnight relief. Dr. Gottesfeld understands the problems of modern life in the DC area, including sports injuries and chronic sitting problems. Before your problems get accute (and yes I have seen good, young friends hospitalized due to accute lower spine compressions and nerve issues) go see Dr. Gottesfeld. Get the book she has published on the chronic problems associated with a sitting lifestyle. I would highly recommend her practice to anyone who is facing back pain and injuries. Others have noted billing issues. I think there can be issues that arise from her trying to minimize administrative costs and I think you should just work with the billing department in her office to figure this out and have fair expectations of the best way to work out your payments. Number one option among preferred providers on my insurance company website only they don't accept that insurance and not only did it allow me to waste my time completing the new patient form it took 3 days for the office to inform me. Up until a couple of years ago, I had really struggled with lower back pain and shoulder/neck pain. I did a few things to fix all that and today I feel great. First I bought a high quality, firm mattress and I also started using a water pillow. Second I adjusted my seating position at work. Third I started taking yoga. And lastly and possibly most importantly I saw Cheryl. When I first went in, I could barely even turn my neck. After several sessions with Cheryl and some followup sessions a few months later, I was brand new again! Every once in awhile I'll need to go back in for an adjustment and Cheryl never fails to fix me. Cheryl is a straight shooter from New York so don't expect Mary Poppins. However, she's really nice and treats you right. My wife had some hamstring problems and Cheryl fixed all that too. I'd recommend Dr. Gottesfeld. I've had chronic neck tension for the last couple years, that started in law school. I had a series of massages last summer and one really spectacular massage that focused on my neck. It really helped ease the tightness and kinks and I felt better - but only for a couple months. After talking to a chiropractor friend who told me that the massages help alleviate the symptoms but the underlying cause is the misalignment of bones, I decided to test it out. I saw Dr. Gottesfeld back in January and she adjusted my neck. I was supposed to come back for a course of treatment but life got super hectic and I still haven't made time for it. But now, even with one session - four months later, I am feeling great and the neck tension has not returned. read more

I've been here three times or so. I like Cheryl a lot, she's brisk but seems to really care about her patients and explains anything if you have questions. The first appointment you have to schedule, then they will give you a card with hours on it and you can just walk in. Really convenient! It's also super easy to schedule your first appointment, you can even do it online. I've used the other doctor, McKenna, once, and he was okay but I prefer Cheryl. He seemed to treat me like cattle and didn't really explain much of what was going on. I think it's important to create some type of trust, or I'm just going to be uncomfortable with some random person touching my body. I also have a healing piercing on my ear, and he forgot about it three or four times and kept touching it. I consistently reminded him and eventually just grabbed his hand to stop him from touching it and causing me pain. It was a bit ridiculous that he couldn't remember something I had told him less than five minutes ago. As I left, I wanted to ask him a question to clarify my treatment, and he looked at me and said, "Goodbye!" with finality. I'm sure that I had my "question asking" face on and that he just didn't want to deal with me any longer. It was a bit rude and made me question his willingness to deal with patients. Also, at no point did he let me ask any questions or clarify anything about what was happening during my appointment, or when I should come back. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this practice, but I'd say stick to Cheryl if you want a comforting experience. Both are good and deliver results, and it's easy to use with my particular insurance. read more

Okay, this office is a complete and utter FAIL. A few months after we get the billing sorted, I get another bill in the mail for the amount I previously disputed. Here's how the story goes - The office bills $45 if you pay cash. If you use insurance, they bill your company $90-something. Well, considering my co-pay was $43 each visit, I would have been better off paying cash. After the first billing debacle, the billing person (Maria) told me they'd switch me over to cash, and I'd just pay the difference of $6. Whatevs. Fast-forward those several months, I get a bill for $63. WTHF, Dr. Gottesfeld?! I figure, shame on me for choosing poorly so I send them a check and say "Close my account." Then THEY DON'T EVEN CASH IT!! I get some cryptic call from Maria, again, who says they closed my account and will return my check. Um, that was three months ago. No sign of my check being returned. But at least no sign of it being cashed either. [Yes, this saga has been going on for about a year.] At this point - stay away at all costs unless you're paying cash. The Doc is 'aight but her billing practices are completely shoddy and I have lost any respect I had for her. read more

A week later, after a night of agony trying to find a comfortable position to sleep, I woke up the next morning looking for a chiropractor. I searched local recommendations on Yelp and came across Cheryl Gottesfeld. The office had a same-day opening for new patients. I eagerly scooped up an afternoon appointment. Once I arrived at the office, I was pleasantly surprised by a very polite receptionist named Sandy. She eagerly helped this me navigate the short process for becoming a new patient (note: they have a "new patient" section on their website...print off and fill out the online forms and it will help expedite the process!) Fast forward to meeting Cheryl. She asked what my concern was, quickly identified what the issue was and just as quickly was able to correct me (about 80-90%, which is amazing for one appointment!). I called all day trying to get a real person and at 3 PM finally received an electronic message speaking so fast that I could hardly understand what was being said. The doctor is doing 'something' from 3-6 but could not understand what. Maybe I would change my review if I was able to talk to a real person. Note: The chiropractic community in Arlington seems to be closed from noon until at least 3 or 3:30 on Fridays so don't expect any kind of direct customer service in that time frame. read more

I've been with Dr. Gottesfeld for 3 years and was never impressed with her attitude, always in a rush and rather sitting in her office than spending another 2 minutes in addition to the 3 the she spends with a patient. Another thing is Dr. Joe. They try to push you on Dr. Joe and in one of my visits I was even convinced. And this is the first time that I felt a much more severe pain after a chiropractor treatment. But my last visit was the last straw, after 3 years she refused to treat me without my insurance card. I offered the secretary to pay the $20 co-pay and email the card when I get home. Dr. Cheryl was very rude, saying that she can't accept "fights" with her staff and I should leave now. Dr. Cheryl sent me home with my severe pain and lost a 3 years customer for $25!!! This place is the complete worst! This chiropractor was "highly recommended" by a colleaugue so I decided to book an appointment To their credit, the website is to the point, print the forms, and send back to book an appointment. Very easy. However, when I came for my scheduled appointment, Dr. Gottesfeld had NO record of my paperwork or appointment. This, after receiving confirmation from her own personal email! She took no accountability and blamed her staff for the mistake. In my opinion, she was rude, looked flustered, and appeared like I was her last priority - a feeling that should never be felt in a medical office. In addition, my appointment was delayed thirty minutes. All of this summarizes my 45-minute experience with this chiropractor. At the end, I just walked out never to return to this office ever again. I texted my colleague saying that she was out of her mind for recommending an office like this to me. Finally, this office has no human interaction. You walk in, there's scribble on a whiteboard directing clients l on what needs to be done prior to seeing the doctor; input your name in the computer, fill out forms, pay co-pay, etc. I felt lost. Why can't they hire someone at the front desk to greet clients? Shoddy, and unbelievably unprofessional. If you don't have insurance, I assume this is the place to go, but if you do, there are better places in Arlington. read more

After suffering a concussion and back/shoulder injury from a rear end car accident last year, I started going to Dr. Cheryl for the ongoing pain. As a runner and a yogi, being unable to move/sit /workout without pain was awful and Dr. Cheryl worked with me over several sessions to help me get back to normal. I recommend Dr. Cheryl as she's skilled and listens to what the issue is and then goes to work on how to fix it. I know some folks complain about the no frills/self service office but I really like this because if you go regularly, you know exactly what to do and you're checked in quickly and efficiently. I also understand that she may be trying to minimize her administrative costs. The no appointment thing can be a little annoying because you may have to wait and the office could use a few updates to decor and technology. That is why I knocked off a star. Overall, I've always felt like I was in healing hands and her work has done a lot to improve my overall quality of life and eliminate the pain I felt after multiple injuries. read more

Dr. Gottesfeld is magical. She absolutely knows what she is talking about and is realistic about lifestyle. She accurately determined the cause of my pain, fixed it, and was realistic with me about how to know when to come back. She was also realistic about my lifestyle at work (sitting in chairs, etc.) and gave me some tips and a book on how to make some easy modifications that would help. Everything about her office is simple and convenient- you can book your first appointment online at a convenient time for people who work, after that you can walk in with no appointment at times also convenient for people who work, there's a friendly person to walk you through the check-in and check out process, it's metro accessible and there is free parking. COME HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED WITH AN ATTITUDE! - So I scheduled an 8am massage and arrived 15 minutes ahead of time which is common practice. Nobody there, office closed, answering machine when I call the place. At five minutes past 8am, Lucelo Delgra FINALLY gets there. When I ask him what's the matter, some kind of reason or emergency why I had to wait for 20 minutes and the office is not open, he has the audacity to say "I can do what I want, this is my business. I can come when I want." Is that why you offer to schedule an appointment? To not keep it and treat your patients like THIS?!? I requested my money back and he gave it to me - with the same condescending attitude: He dumped a few notes on the receptionist counter and walked back. NEVER AGAIN! read more

She fixed my rotated pelvis and SI joint problem resulting from my pregnancy. It was hurting so much and now the pain is gone. Now I still go to do some adjustment to make it more balanced but it feels great that there is no pain. Anyone who have this problem should at least try to see her. Having seriously injured my back in an accident 25 years ago, I've seen my fair share of chiropractors over the years. Some have changed my life dramatically for the better, others not so much. Dr. Gottsfeld falls into the life-changing, quality of life-saving category. For both chronic pain and temporary acute pain, she's been able to provide me immediate and long-term relief. She never has you come back needlessly. She's even had me come in if I felt like I needed an adjustment and offered to take a look at me at no cost. I've literally crawled into her office in acute pain after a week in bed and walked out of her office pain-free. She's the best. I adore her no-nonsense approach. It saves me time and money. I've had insurance coverage and not had insurance coverage and decided that in the end, it's cheaper and makes my life easier to pay at the time of service. She spent five minutes flitting around me then stepped back for some kind of dramatic 'reveal' expecting me to be cured. She is not only a very talented professional, seeming to intuit every misalignment before a patient can point it out, she also has a warm, positive, matter-of-fact approach that has converted several of my chiropractic-wary friends to her care. I've been going to her for nearly twenty years now for the occasional tuneup, and it's instant relief every time. After the initial visit, you can stop in anytime during office hours for a quick treatment -- in and out in minutes, and she works with most insurance plans now. My tween and teen kids love going in as well and would stop by every week if they could! She treated me and then I had to come back a few days later. She took a look at the problem and told me that she wanted to refund my payment because before she could help me, I needed some deep tissue massage to help me relax the knotted up muscles so she could give me a proper adjustment. I was treated by Dr Gottesfeld for recurrent lower back pain because of a 'rear-end' automobile accident. I first went to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for periodic treatment but the pain did not get better. I knew the doctor and mentioned how WRAMC was not successful. She offered her services and over a period of a few months, the pain became less and eventually disappeared thanks to her. I highly recommend Dr Cheryl Gottesfeld for this type of treatment. review/stars based on gottesfeld alone. office was kiiinda no frills to put it really, really nicely. i have a 15 yr long back issue that really flared up the other day and i could barely move. i went to a sports medicine/pain management doc in shirlington. after 10 min of looking at my back i was ordered to get: periodic shots in my spine, an mri, an xray, 12 sessions of PT and future follow ups w/him. needless to say it just felt like a lot and i wanted to get a second opinion. truth be told i never would have stepped foot in this place w/o the yelp reviews. you run your own credit card (no, not just to swipe.....like enter the amt and rip the paper off). i was informed by the woman at the front desk that the next time i come in i will be the one taking my chart and putting it in the chart holder outside of the room. not the end of the world but kinda...i guess no frills...none. after being kinda weirded out by all of this i was about to leave. just wasn;t sure that i would WANT to be a patient/customer here. right then cheryl walked in. thank GOD i didn't leave. she is a staten island gem. very in tuned w/me and my case and she freaking fixed me in a few snaps and cracks. i love dr. chery.l gottesfeld. I have been seeing dr gottesfeld since about 2004, first for corrections after an auto accident-- she helped me recover-- and since then for "tune-ups", about once a month. She has always been able to make me feel 100% better than when I walked in. I always feel welcome when I go to see her (she's a hugger) and my husband sees her now and likes her a lot too. recently i moved back from overseas and after about a week on a friend's mattress my neck was so jammed up that I couldn't move my neck and was in a lot of pain. since i had to move my stuff into a new apartment I desperately needed her help. I called her office worried because I was running late and they said if I could get there by 12:15 she would wait for me-- thank goodness she did. I walked in hurting and left able to do the entire week of moving and organizing a new apartment with no problems. She saved my life that day! (thanks!!) I highly recommend Dr. Cheryl-- as long as you are ok with someone who is direct and quick-- which I like because I have other things to do too! then you should check her out. I love her drop in hours-- once you set up as a patient you can come any time, check in at the kiosk, and be seen pretty quickly. And she has afternoon and morning hours on different days, and Saturday hours occasionally. read more

Dr. C is a lifesaver. I've been going to her off and on for varies things that I do to myself and her healing (though not always painless) hands get my skeleton and various tendons and muscles back in working order. I initially discovered her from working in the Arlington area and now that I live and work outside of VA, I travel the distance (sometimes even using Metro, oh my!) just to see her. Yes, the office is a self-service check-in and payment kind-of-place which I fully support if it helps keep health care costs down. It's no big deal once you know the system. Hours are sporatic (which isn't a complaint) and seem to cover a broad range of times from morning to evening and sometimes on Saturday. I actually like not having an appointment time as traffic and metro are so unpredictable. It's nice to be able to walk-in without fretting over being late. Waiting long has never been an issue - and given the big massage chairs to wait in I sometimes want to wait longer...! read more
