My wife and I purchased a patio cover about 2.5 years ago from Desert Sun. We had an estimate done…read moreby a personable young man named Blake, and a couple weeks later they arranged for an installer to come to our home and complete the work. FF to today and we decided to have our deck closed in and turned into a three season room. We again contacted Desert Sun, and they sent out Blake to give us an estimate to enclose our deck. The estimate came in just shy of nine thousand dollars. That means the entire cost of the three season room was close to $16,000. They also wanted a 50% deposit upon ordering, with the balance due when the parts were picked up. Blake said they expected the parts for the room to be in around 1.5 to 2.5 weeks. This is where things, IMO went downhill It took 5 weeks to get the parts. I kept calling every week after waiting almost 20 days, and they had an excuse every time I called. I called on Monday, then they said it should be in Wednesday. I called back Wednesday, then they said it should be Friday. This went on for another two weeks. Finally the parts arrived and when I tried to pay the balance (with MasterCard) the owner said I couldn't because of the fees he would have to pay. (not my problem). I assumed since I put the deposit on with credit, I could pay the balance with credit. We wanted to do this to collect AirMiles on the purchase. The owner of Desert Sun, Bob was not the easiest to deal with when it came to this issue. What he came up with in the end was that I pay $75 dollars (50% of what the credit card company would charge him). The end result was I paid the balance by cheque which he allowed me to post date by one week. Fast forward to the next week, and we had our original installer (Mike) who built our patio cover build our sun room. I can't say enough good things about Mike. He's very good at what he does and is very particular. What happened near the end of the install is what gets interesting. The sun room kit that was ordered was short a window. Plus we added another one. When Mike the installer called Bob the owner he was placed on SPEAKER so I could hear his thoughts on windows. Mike said he was on speaker, but Bob never caught it. Mike began to tell Bob about the windows and started to say that I didn't want to pay much for them. That's when Bob called me "A CHEAP SON OF A BITCH". I fail to see how I'm a cheap S.O.B. especially since I just gave him close to 9 thousand dollars. I got on the phone after him calling me that, the conversation started by me saying "Hello Bob, it's Ed the cheap son of a bitch" he apologized and Mike and I had a serious conversation about Bob. Is it me, or should you not be calling your customers names ?????? In the end the sun room looks great (Thanks to Mike). As for me recommending Desert Sun Patios, maybe a couple of months ago. If you need an installer though, I can get you in touch with Mike. Oh yeah still waiting on my two windows. They said 5 days, and it's now 7.

After three failed attempts to complete what should have been a simple carpet installation, the job is still nowhere near acceptable. Every single visit made things worse instead of fixing anything. Their excuse? "We can't quote what we can't see." That's what I was told--when in reality they failed to properly assess the job from the beginning. That is pure incompetence, and it is not the customer's responsibility to make up for their lack of due diligence. To make things worse, the first technicians outright said the install should never have been done without removing the baseboards. Despite that, I was reassured by Kim Skow that everything would be handled properly as-is. That statement was completely false. The result proves it. They then had to come back and remove the baseboards anyway just to try to fix their own mistakes, causing even more disruption. I was forced to purchase my own baseboards out of pocket, and unbelievably, they still installed them incorrectly. On top of all of this, they damaged two door casings, ripped paint and drywall off the walls, and didn't even finish the trim on the stairs. This isn't "minor"--this is careless, unprofessional workmanship. This situation has cost me significant time, money, and stress--buying materials, moving furniture repeatedly, and dealing with ongoing disruption in my own home. Yet they continue to downplay everything as "minor issues," which is completely unacceptable. Now they're trying to push this as "job complete" while offering insultingly low compensation that doesn't come close to covering the cost, time, or effort it will take for me to rip everything out AGAIN and repurchase materials just to restore my home properly. At this point, it's obvious they have no accountability, no quality control, and no intention of making things right. Avoid this company at all costs unless you're prepared for repeated failures, property damage, excuses, and paying out of pocket to fix their mistakes
