In Ontario, you can have a home built from the ground up in 3 mos, I think here the tradesmen go north for more $ so it took time to build here, about 8 mos. Sterling has show homes all over the city as well as outside the cities and they are worth a walk through. The designers Sterling hires are amazing as well as the staff. They really do care about the people they build for. We were checking on our home every 3rd day as we could not wait to get in and of course we wanted to take pics of the progress and everyone was so patient. Every call or e-mail we placed was answered right away and they always set our mind at ease about any little things that needed to be touched up. For me, it is about the little things, the touches, the gift card we got for a nice restaurant right after we got back from our wedding/honeymoon. I always felt we were in good hands and I would be happy to answer any questions for anyone that is looking to build with Sterling. A tough process for a worry-wart like me, was made so much easier dealing with a company that truly cares about customer service and the aftercare/follow-up. We know for a fact that Sterling uses quality products when building right down to the clamps to keep the water pipes together. Instead of say a 49 cent clamp they used $5 ones and we really feel like we got our money's worth. Yep, I am a satisfied customer! Fingers crossed!

Rather, I had an experience with one of their employees completely outside of the home building/buying process which I feel might be relevant regardless. I bought a used vehicle off of one of their employees (they didn't know that I research *everything* before I buy a vehicle! :) ) and ran into some issues related to vehicle's Voice Recognition. The seller was under no obligation whatsoever to help me as I had already paid and received the (used) vehicle. However, after I contacted him about the issue, he contacted the dealership where he had everything done previously on the vehicle, and arranged for me to bring it in to have them take a look at it. It turned out to be an easy fix, but no one knew that at the time! The point of my review is this: if an employee (VP) of Sterling Homes demonstrates that much integrity when they don't *have* to, I can only imagine that it would be a pretty safe bet that they will demonstrate at least that much when dealing with their customers.

Our experience with Binford Contracting was awful. Brian:…read moreOwner/Manager, acted in capacity of both General Contractor and also personally completed some of the construction work. General Construction: Incorrect placement of skylight boxes (rafter relative to joist) resulted in obtuse angle kink within skylight shaft. Despite Brian's original insistence that this is how he does all his skylights; after much discussion (and viewing of photos on Google), the skylight boxes were reframed to ensure the shaft was straight. This resulted in additional delay and cost as the holes cut into the roof deck had to be enlarged and new custom skylights ordered. General Contractor: Renovation took ~4 times longer than estimated. While the renovation was in progress, Brian went on vacation. We had trades coming to our home asking for direction. Texts sent to Brian were not returned during this vacation period. Upon return from his holiday, Binford requested interim payment. This was accommodated despite the initial agreement that payment could be made in full at the conclusion of the entire job. Insulation work, completed under the direction of Binford, now impedes passive air flow ventilation. This has resulted in frost/ice accumulation on our attic deck and condensation related drywall damage. Independent professionals attribute this to improper application of insulation in the attic space. Rather than return to the client site to assess the situation, Brian's email response speaks volumes: 'if indeed the attic was over insulated, this will not be covered by Binford...' Despite multiple requests, Binford was unwilling to honour the 2 year contractual warranty on workmanship. We are now left with significant remediation work, approximately 1 year, post-renovation.

Stan from My Home Handyman gave us the quote with what we would like done. He also gave us the timeframe in which the veranda and railing would be completed. Three days including teardown of the old deck, which was met by they way. Very pleased with deciding on this company to do the work. The workmanship is top notch, and professional. Our veranda turned out better than we expected, very pleased with the outcome and workmanship. My Home Handyman does a verity of other home construction work. From decks, home repairs, renovations, carpentry, drywall, painting. Very pleasant to talk to as well as deal with for any concerns. They truly care about their customers satisfaction. Over all very satisfied!
