The Hotel burned and is closed in Summer 2015
Todd H.

The only thing open this season is the adjacent Ice Palace bar and nightclub. The actual hotel burned pretty much to the ground in Spring 2015. So, the summer season of 2015 is out of the question for lodging... The pool is open. Best events at the Ice Palace nightclub are those hosted by promoter Daniel Nardicio. Though numerous performers and theme parties during the week are also worth a visit and all have solid followings. The Ice Palace is the center of town both literally and figuratively.

The Grove Hotel is back and the rooms are bigger and better. Comfortable bed, AC and great showers. Right in the thick of things!

Tired building with leaking rooms when it rains, no communication while you are on the property…read moreaddressing any issues and the insults start after you leave regardless how much money they were paid, in our case we bought a second room for an unexpected fifth guest but was still charged the fifth over person fee?! The rooms look nothing like the website, there are no hardwood floors, rather pealing dirty painted cement. No comfortable throw pillows or ambient pendant lighting, no art, no fan in bath, no teak rain shower, instead you have mold, missing tiles, cracked plastic windows, doors that won't open, exposed metal on very tired make shift trundle beds ( be sure to wear shin guards ). The front desk keeper also is way too touchy feely we are still in times of COVID!

I'm not sure what I did in my past life to deserve this, but this is my own personal hell…read more This hotel is nothing short of a sh*thole. You'll freeze at night (thanks to the holes in the doors, and even if you use hair clips to close the "curtains," the air will still get in); leaks will wake you up at 5 in the morning; there are holes in the bathroom walls so you can see the guts of the building (and it's an easy entrance for bugs), it stinks of mold, the bathroom ceiling is caving in; the mattress is gross, there are enormous gaps in the ceiling, only some of which are sloppily filled with grout; there's no TV/phone/ anything (mind you the place cost about $200 a night); if you open the closet you'll add more mold funk to the space...and on and on. By the way, those little hairs and flecks of dirt in the shower in my photo? NOT MINE. (My products are in the shot. So I wanted to clarify.) Every time you tell someone in town where you're staying, their face falls and they offer pity and surprise. Since you can hear every conversation that people have while walking by, you may also hear someone say "it's the death hotel!" (True story) or its other nickname, "The ScareGurl." If you're looking for a cinder block dungeon with absolutely no comforts, amenities or pleasant environment, this spot is for you. I am not a person into camping but a tent on the beach would be better. I'm not joking. Or rent a house. Literally do anything other than stay here. My neighbor regaled me with stories of her flooded bathroom - straight up standing water throughout the entirety of her stay.

Botel - I'd say sterile, but that'd imply it was clean, by no means was it

Ok Chad must work for botel to write such a gleaming review on such a lodging scam, since when was…read morea cinder block room 10'x10' with a non functional air conditioner, noisy surroundings (expected), severely decayed shower, sink with a trash can under the drain to catch the leaking water, shower that has consistently inconsistent temperature, an owner too cheap to get even basic ikea items like a bath mat and in the end have the nerve to charge $300 for a room or $100 a night for a shared dorm a "deal", if you plan well you can get your share in a house for less than that. This hotel is a scam of epidemic proportions. People will pay for mediocrity, so why try aanything else.

Some facts about Botel: 1. It is constructed completely out…read moreof cinderblocks. That includes the inside of your room, which might remind you of your dorm room in college, but with less personality or comfort. 2. Even though the Botel is a couple years old, it looks and functions like a 60s-era motel, with attendant rust stains. 3. They aren't big on privacy at the Botel. Like most Fire Island hotels, the bathroom is shared, which is expected. But your room may or may not have a lock with a key. If it does have a key, you might find your door opened anyway by another befuddled guest who was given the same key to the same room. In fact, the door to your room might not even close all the way. And if it does, someone might wander in and then try to suavely pretend that is normal and, "Nope, don't need anything, bye." 4. Your manager will claim this is not a big deal, because everyone is cool here. Residents of the island claim that stuff gets stolen from the Botel all the time. Who to believe? Nothing was taken from our room, but maybe that's because we left all of our valuables at a friend's house. 5. The beds are pretty comfortable and big. 6. The club gets quiet at 10, so thumping house won't be a problem. I'm not giving this place a one star, because I'm sure many people arrive and all they want is a place to pass out after partying until 6 am, and don't mind strangers wandering in and out. No hate on that, do your thing, but if you're wondering why this place is $100 cheaper than everything else, that's why. If you're looking to save a buck but want comfort/privacy, try AirBnB and Craigslist.
