Started with the piping hot Crab meat and asparagus soup for two and it was so good. Not overly salty, and a generous portion. The Thai mango chicken was a dish we never had before. It was a delicious combination with a unique taste. The house mei fun was one of the best I've had. Instantly was hit with wok hei flavoring with my first bite. Beef and chicken was nicely velveted. Me and my friend went to dine in here around 4pm on a week day and it was not busy at all! We were able to get in right away and we're immediately served. Although the chips weren't my cup of tea, almost everything else was incredible! However, please be careful when trying the sauces, because one is wasabi and I almost died when it hit my tongue . I ordered the dumplings for entree. They were okay but as a pork dumpling enthusiast they were not exactly my cup of tea. For the main meal I ordered the orange chicken and fried rice (no meat). And it was incredible!! I'm a fan of Panda Express orange chicken so I was a bit worried it wouldn't be as good but it is one of the best food I've ordered from a restaurant! I really recommend. And then finally the fried rice was just yummy. I gulped it down in 10 seconds it was just too good! The food also tastes amazing once warmed up in the microwave so do not be afraid to get leftovers. I ordered food online, was told that it would be ready in 15 to 20 minutes, got there about 25 minutes later, was told that it was almost ready. After waiting for another 20 minutes and seeing several other orders come out I asked again how long it would take, and was again told it's almost ready. My order finally came out over an hour after I put in the order, I asked the management to give me some money back because of the inconvenience. They replied that the only option they would give me was to take my food back and give me a refund but that I should know on the weekend. It takes over an hour to get food ready. Bear in mind that my food was two entrées and one appetizer, and they had told me it would take 15 to 20 minutes. So this place is terrible. I will never go there again and I urge people to do the same. This not only happened to me but multiple people who people who were working for DoorDash and Uber eats came and we're waiting 20 to 30 minutes to pick up their orders and two of those people while waiting to pick them up had their orders canceled, therefore they lost money and time because this restaurant does not know how to prepare food in a timely manner and does not apologize at all for how long it takes. read more

When I walked in they had 5 costumers waiting for there orders too! When I asked the host she kept telling me it was going to be 15 more mins. Hoping that was the case I waited. It's been about a year since I've been here. The food has always been amazing. Service and how long it takes to make the order not so much lol. So i stoped going. I hade a craving for some good Chinese food. So i figured why not its only a few minutes from home. But this time service was absolutely great. Food was ready in 10 to 15 minutes. As stated. Im officially done this restaurant! This is the second time they have forgotten something for take out in our bag. They will not give you a credit back on your credit card. I have been here a few times now and the food is very good, it's just the service is a bit slow. Once we went during regular operating hours and they were closed. Absolutely awful, I would give it zero stars if possible. I ordered bean curd in spicy sauce, six fried vegetable rolls, and the homemade duck sauce. What I received was soggy, falling apart, pasty tofu floating in a container of sauce, not crispy, lovely bean curd with sauce coating them like I expected. Two uncooked and FROZEN vegetable rolls, and the duck sauce. The tofu and vegetable rolls went straight into the trash and I ate the rice with the included packets of duck sauce because they were better than the homemade. We have had to wait for an hour on three different occasions for takeout from Chen's that we were told would be ready in "10-15 minutes." The owner is not nice about it either. She knows she is understaffed and that the kitchen cannot have the food ready in that short amount of time. She is afraid that the customers will cancel their order when they hear that it will take 45-60 minutes to have the food ready. The previous owner was super nice, friendly, knew everyone by name. I am going to be blatantly honest here: the customer service at Chens is the absolute worst I have ever experienced, so I don't care if Gordon Ramsey is the head chef here, I will NEVER eat here again. You're never greeted with a friendly hello or a smile. You're greeted like you've done this place a favor by visiting. And giving them YOUR money. This is my first review of an establishment that I believe we've ordered takeout from two dozen times over the course of a year. And in that time the lady (likely the owner) is rude and unappreciative of any customer that patrons the place. I've watched customer treatment of others and I'll give Chens credit for this: it's consistently bad for everyone. Never a smile or a thank you from anyone at Chens. If I had a dollar for every thank you or appreciative conversation following my transactions here I'd be a poor man. Here's the thing: the food isn't that bad. However, if you check out the more recent reviews here you'll find the rating numbers are generally slipping. Chens must think there are no other options within a few miles. 7/11 Update: Jin C (Enya Chen) messaged me privately on here and the horrible customer service continues. Instead of resolving the issue, they kept insisting that I was never a customer and that I'm writing the review under the wrong restaurant. It was obviously an excuse for me to take the negative review off. I kept the receipt and everything matched up so I DO have the correct restaurant. The next excuse was that I was outside of the delivery area which I'm well within it. The whole issue is just ridiculous and to call a customer a liar to cover up the issues goes along with all of the other negative reviews on this establishment. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. My order was placed online at 3:36pm and I did not receive it until 5:45. I called the restaurant twice and I was told that no one wanted to deliver to my area. This restaurant offers delivery to my area but claims that their own delivery people do not want to do it. My food was cold when I finally got it. Also, when I called for an update on my order I was told it was on it's way but it still wasn't delivered for another 45 minutes when I am only 5 miles away. Chen's is my favorite Chinese restaurant & no matter what I order, it is wonderful. Was just there & got pork fried rice - loved it! and the soup & their soothing hot tea. Plus their egg rolls for 2 people & 2 to take home. Had so much fried rice we took it home for dinner. It had veggies & pork all cut up tiny - a pleasure to eat. Atmosphere is pleasant & staff are very nice. We got our meal about 3 pm on a weekday, very short time waiting. Prices are a little less than other places & you get lots of food. Have taken my guests there too & they love this place - an unadvertised JEM !! This is a family business & really fresh veggies are used & not salty food. The food was delicious but, I waited for an hour and a half to get it after ordering online. Part of our order was not with my takeout. So after bringing my food home I called about 45 minutes before going to pick the food I didn't get up. I had to wait twenty more minutes before getting the food that I payed for and didn't receive. The food was really good though, the vegetables were crunchy, unlike most Chinese restaurants with their soggy veggies. The sauces were nicely spiced and their soups were absolutely delicious. Kind of disappointing. This is a slightly-upscale Chinese place with tablecloths and art prints on the wall. Service was friendly and attentive (which earned a star) but the food was very bland. Hot and sour soup was thin and bland. The complimentary wonton chips were stale. My main dish, pork with garlic sauce, had only the tiniest hint of spice. I wound up adding soy sauce to it just to give it a little flavor. To top it off, I found a couple of pieces of meat that were too gristly to eat. It's a shame I have to complain because their food is pretty good... if you get it. Two months ago our order for delivery took over 2 hours. We called several times to check on the status and were told each time it was on the way. Finally the order showed up freezing cold and had to be microwaved to heat it up. Today we ended up cancelling our order after an hour and forty minutes with no delivery after being told it was on way again. We regularly ordered delivery from Chen's in the past so I'm not sure if this is a new owner or what. No apologies on any of our phone calls either. It's almost as if our calls to check our delivery were a routine occurrence so I'd expect the same issue. They don't tell you how long it's going to take and even if they did I'm sure it will take longer than they tell you. read more

Food was good........However....... Arrived to eat-in and walked up to register where a hostess/waitress was finishing a transaction with a takeout order. We were not greeted and were ignored likely due to being confused with the take-out crowd (two people waiting on orders). We had to ask to be seated, and with some disgust the hostess/waitress tried to seat us next to the mop station in the back when there were about 12 other tables open. We asked for a different table and were begrudgingly accommodated. Waitress came about 5 minutes later. We asked for water and tea. 5 minutes later the water came but no tea. We placed our order. When the soup came we had to remind the waitress for the tea - "oops". They were out of egg drop soup (is that like McDonald's being out of French fries?). Food came out 20 minutes later. We asked for boxes as soon as the food came knowing their would be leftovers. We never saw the waitress again until we had finished eating, got up and put our coats on, and I had to stand in the middle of the restaurant to flag down the waitress and ask for our check. But the food was good - too bad we never got the boxes for leftovers tomorrow. If you have about an hour and a half for dinner and don't mind being abandoned by the high school staff, this place is great. read more

We have ordered delivery from this location at least 6 times and everyone in my family enjoys the food, aside from my husband. They have great lunch prices so I often order it online for delivery right around the time my kids get home from school. This is their favorite delivery location so far. They will gladly substitute an egg roll for soup and they usually give us free little donuts with sugar that my girls love. You can't beat all that for 6.75 delivered to your door and not having to cook. My only complaint is that despite ordering from here regularly the delivery people tend to get lost. I have been a customer of Chens for about 15 years. The only Chinese establishment I would order from. The past 1.5 years something changed. Benny is no longer at this location and it shows in accuracy and quality. Sadly the last time we ordered our order was missing items and the food was rather bland for food we requested "spicy". We stopped going there. 3.20.2017 went to the Chens location in Twin Hickory and it was fabulous...like the location in Mechanicsville was in the past. read more
