Let me just start by saying that I have never given a poor review. I always support local business and only leave reviews for good experiences. This, however, needed to be posted. I was charged $80 to fill out their required paperwork and ask about insurance coverage! Total scam!! Make sure you ask questions up front before you do anything at this office. After my midwife recommended acupuncture to induce labor, I found Dr. Chen through Google as a local provider. I contacted the number and set up an appointment for a consultation. Upon arrival, I was sent back to a room and asked to fill out paperwork. Dr. Chen reviewed my paperwork, came back and explained how acupuncture worked to induce labor. I then asked if my insurance was covered. I had filed out an insurance section on the form I had just given him... pretty sure that's so they can check what is covered... Without checking, he said not likely (he did not call or reach out to my provider). My next question was how much he charged out of pocket. After a brief discussion with my husband, we decided that we could not afford the out of pocket cost. No exam or services were done. On my way out, I asked him AGAIN if he could check my insurance to see if his services were covered by my insurance. He took my card, made a copy and handed it back to me. He then told me that my fee for today would be $80!! For what, i said. His answer was for the consultation. Not once in the 15 minutes I was there was I told about a consultation fee! I know times are tough this year, but it doesn't make it right to take it out on potential customers. read more

Acupuncture is inexplicably but undeniably effective. Western medicine can't explain why it works, but Dr. Chen will show you that it does. During any given visit, you will encounter other patients (on their way out or on their way in) that have been coming to Dr. Chen for nearly three decades, and in my book, repeat clientele speaks volumes. I first decided to give acupuncture a try due to my frequent sports injuries. Through massage therapy, heat treatment, medicinal patches, and good ol' fashioned needles, I left Dr. Chen's office feeling like a million bucks (and now, as a client for life, I always leave feeling like a million bucks). Since I brought up needles, it deserves fleshing out (no pun intended). These are not Western Medicine blood test / IV drip / injection needles, which are forcibly thick b/c their function requires them to be hollow (to suck blood, inject fluid, etc.). Acupuncture needles are microscopically thin and I can hardly feel anything when they are placed just under the surface of your skin. Trust me. Occasionally, a needle in a locale with "bad qi (pronounced "chi")," as Dr. Chen explained to me, will cause a minor pain, but even that feels like a light rubber band snap to the wrist. A pittance compared to how much better you feel after the treatment is complete. Last but not least, Dr. Chen is personable and genuinely concerned about your well being. This should be required of all acupuncturists, I agree, but the handful of other places I tried before discovering Dr. Chen proved me wrong. This place gets a high recommendation from me. I have to say I didn't use to believe in Acupuncture... But NOW I am a BELIEVER! I was in a car accident a year ago and have several discs in my lower spine that are out of place and constantly irritated and painful. After trying chiropractors, decompression therapy (DRX 9000) and several different types of massage therapy, I was referred to Dr. Chen by a family friend. WOW is all I can say. after the first treatment I felt instant relief. I continued to see him and now my pain is gone. Relief !!! Dr. Chen is amazing! I recently visited Dr. Chen for lower back pain and never imagined the relief that it would give me. I'm an avid cyclist and was suffering from lower back pain because a new bike I've been riding had a bad fit. I find the acupuncture treatments very relaxing and my pain situation has always improved to the point of the pain going away!.. Once when my daughter hurt her knee on the basketball court we took her there and one treatment took care of it. Dr. Chen is very knowledgable and nice! He has helped me with stress and helped me relax when I was pregnant with my son. I didn't want to have another c-section and I wasn't dropping so I went to have acupuncture. It was that I wasn't relaxing and muscles were too tense for the baby to drop into position, so I went to see dr. Chen a couple of times a week for a month or so before my due date. I have been treated by Dr. Chen for over 7 years now, from occasional tendonitis, wrist pain and now recently for benign positional vertigo aka BPV. The Epley maneuver was recommended by my E.N.T. but opted not to, due to having to experience vertigo during the maneuver, I've already experienced enough vertigo to last me a life time. I don't believe all of these reviews are real. Although very nice, Dr. Chen was very hard to understand, did not understand half the things that were said to me. I felt like he was scrambling the entire time I was there, going in and out of the room at least 3-4 times during my consultations to grab different items to explain my pain, including a box of items that looked like they were pulled from an attic from the 1980's dirty, dusty and old. Looking around the room most everything seemed to be outdated. When I called to make an appt. the receptionist told me that I would be paying $25-50 for my consultation visit, depending on what was done. I thought that seemed fair since another place I was considering charged $40 for consultation and acupuncture, on a special ad they were running on their website. When it was time to pay for my visit the reception told me my total was $95. I was not happy considering the total quoted had doubled. The reception was not sensitive to my plea that I could not afford that. I paid it and asked how much it would cost for each of my two weekly visits the Dr was recommending, she said $70 each visit (which would be $140 week). Now after doing much research in the Rancho and Upland area, these prices are crazy expensive. I'm now a very happy client of 'Good Hands Acupuncture', first consultation and acupuncture visit only $40 (without coupon) $60 and each follow up visit $40. Huge difference, great staff and honest and affordable. If rating was based on receptionist it would be a 1 star, on Dr. a 3 star. But because they didn't even attempt to make me happy and let me leave very upset. I'm giving them a 2. They could have worked with me!! Disappointed:-( read more

I had never been to an acupuncturist before. I had significant back pain and chose Dr Chen after seeing good reviews. This was a mistake. After treatment, I did not experience any relief. I do understand that it doesn't always work immediately and that it takes multiple visits and had set up another appointment. I decided to cancel after I discovered he had left a needle in my lower leg that I didn't find until later the day of the first treatment. I understand human error and this did not cause me any harm, however, as a very first patient, I would have thought that he would have been extra careful in at least the first treatment. Additionally, the amount he charged me for his service was significant. I would not have minded that had I received something in return. In short, if you are able to get relief from him, good. I did find another acupuncturist that was recommended to me. His treatment was much more extensive and significantly less expensive. More importantly, after his treatment, I did feel relief. I am going back because I still have some residual pain, but I am doing better. read more

IT WAS PROFESSIONAL HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!!!!!!!! I refuse to give him any stars!! Do they have a NEGATIVE RATING??? A friend suggested I go to him and Kaiser may cover sessions like it did for her. I went to ask if my insurance would cover his acupuncture. The office assistant was not there. Dr. Chen said wait a few minutes abd gave me forms to fill out(He made sure I filled out forms). I kept telling all I wanted was to know if he can help my condition and if Kaiser will cover it. Then he took me back and spent 10 minutes with me telling me if I don't get his treatment eventually I may be wheelchair bound! I kept asking about Kaiser. At the end he guffawed and said "Oh hard to get thru Kaiser-they will try everything they can before giving approval. Not easy, not possible. He knew the answer all along! The topper he charged me $50.00!!!!! for telling me Kaiser will not approve payment for his sessions. ALL I CAN SAY IS HE NEEDED THE MONEY MORE THAN I DID. read more

I was referred to Dr. Chen by a close friend. I have a list of ailments that Western medicine isn't helping. It gets tiring taking meds to just cover up the pain/symptoms or deal with major side effects from meds. We decided to start tackling my daily migraines/Headaches first. He explained everything and why he believed I was getting them and then started his treatment (acupuncture needles across my shoulders/back and neck followed by in my elbows and hands). It was very relaxing to some peoples surprise. He followed it with a short massage with some tool. I was migraine/headache free for days. It was his suggestion (and the experience of my friend) to go as often as possible in the beginning to regulate all of the tension and problem areas. Unfortunately, it's January and I have a large deductible to meet first (which they work well with -a contracted rate of $52.50 for BC PPO) so I will be going once a week until satisfied. I am extremely excited to be trying this finally and would recommend Dr. Chen to everyone I know. read more
