I worked in the healthcare industry for 45 years. I was a doctor of pharmacy and spent most of my career in a clinical setting with an emphasis of internal medicine, intensive care work, and infectious disease. Western medicine has changed a lot over the past 25-30 years. They do not incorporate wellness . It is more catastrophic sick care. They treat the symptoms with pharmaceuticals to erase or lessen the symptoms rather than trying to find the root cause of the symptom to have even occurred in the first place. I prefer a more integrative approach. I think pharmaceuticals are highly necessary in the right circumstances. But , it became clear to me that western medicines answer to problems became adding more and more pharmaceuticals to a person's regimen. Sometimes patients get more medicines due to side effects of the current meds they take. Terms like "chronic condition" became the norm. The concept of wellness somehow slipped away. Chinese medicine on the other hand looks at mind, body and spirit as a whole. I have been studying the concepts of Chinese medicine for the past seven years after I met a veterinarian who practiced TCVM. She met my dog and thought perhaps my dog had been misdiagnosed. Sure enough, my young dog had developed cancer. I utilized a radiation oncologist to radiate the brain tumor, but I was told that feeding real food to my animal would make my animal sicker. The only way to feed a complete diet was to feed processed industrial food. That is utter nonsense. That is when I turned to studying nutrition under the TCVM guidelines of feeding fresh, well baIanced food based on the animals constitution and the 5 elements. I had two wonderful TCVM practitioners teach me to raise my current dogs in a much healthier, vibrant life. This resonated with my thoughts on wellness and whole body healing so much, that I am continuing my readings and classes in the pillars of Chinese medicine: the balancing of the body thru Yin & Yang, and the theory of Qi which is central to the core of Chinese medicine as the source of all movement and energy in the manifestation of all life on Earth. I have a low back issue that I was born with and as I age, it has caused me to have pain and nerve issues. Dr. Chen has MAGIC HANDS! Completely WORTH visiting!!! We have a 10 y/o young buck who began complaining of plantar fasciitis pain during his 5th grade basketball season for elementary school. Prior to that, very active in soccer, basketball and volleyball, never once indicating foot pain at all. Icing, yoga & stretching, shoe inserts, anti-inflammatory meds, rest for a few weeks... all these conservative measures we tried. However, nothing really helped his predicament. In August of 2022 I walked into Chen's Chinese Medicine in about the worst pain I'd ever been. I couldn't walk, sit, or breathe without pain. I was close to needing a walker. I had 4 sessions with Dr. Chen. I found her to be my healing angel. She has a very calm, soothing presence. She could see my pain and knew by sight, where I was hurting. My first 3 sessions were the same: filigments carefully placed with skill. She asked if I like cupping, which I love. I feel it takes toxins from my body. The 4th session, my mind was whirling with anxiety and stress. Dr. Chen used filaments (some refer them as needles) into my skull to first calm my mind, which they did. We then had our usual session. Her office itself is a place of serenity. It's impeccable clean, but so much more. Just walking in, you instantly feel peace soothing your soul. Dr. Chen has a huge abundance of vitamins or Chinese herbs you can purchase for many needs. She doesn't pressure you to buy. Each time I was there, people were coming back for more capulated herbs. A sceptic a first, I now turn to acupuncture everytime I hit a medical brick wall. "Little could be done" for my winged scapula, but acupuncture put it back in place. Through the years Dr. Chen has successfully treated me for shingles, pain following hip and knee replacements, insomnia, and clinical depression, but the most dramatic has been recent. An MRI revealed that my pain, weakness, stiffness and my morning challenge to even get out of bed and hopefully walk were due to moderate to extreme stenosis of the lower five vertebrate in my spine. Plans were underway to try various medical procedures. Somewhat reconciled to the deterioration of 78 years on my spine, I returned to Dr. Chen hoping she could alleviate some of the pain. Her treatment greatly exceeded my expections. Dr. Chen read the results of my MRI and knew specifically what was needed. Amazingly, the results were fairly immediate, but I continued a few more treatments. I'm still 78, and of course I suppose I still have moderate to extreme stenosis in my lower 5 vertebrate, but thanks to Dr. Chen's treatment, I am not in pain. I do not struggle to get out of bed in the morning. My legs do not feel heavy and weak. I can walk, really walk. I'm far more active than I was and I intend to remain so. A month ago, I got very sick from Vestibular Neuritis, (inner ear inflammation) causing me to have severe vertigo. I had to be hospitalized for 3 days, I could not walk due to constant spinning in my head and was bedridden. It has been a very slow recovery process. I went to Dr. Chen after having seen a few western doctors for digestive issues and did not receive any firm diagnosis or relief. Within a couple of weeks of Dr. Chen's treatment, the various issues, including pain, cramps, and bloating, were completely alleviated. I continue to be well in that regard. I highly recommend coming to see Dr. Chen! Dr. Chen is an incredibly kind and attentive doctor. This is my second time going through acupuncture therapy for various pain issues I deal with as a disabled Veteran. I had a spinal fusion at a young age and have had chronic back pain most of my life. My foot went numb and my knees hurt when I walk, climb stairs, etc. I've seen many PTs and specialists over the years with varying treatments that didn't help much. One specialist told me there was nothing he could do - to come back when I was dragging my leg. I was not impressed! I also have chronic neck pain from an accident years ago. I am very grateful for Dr Yong Ping Chen, for her top notch care and help. I went to her in some of the most severe pain I have endured in my entire life, and five visits later, I feel human again. Dr Chen also saved me a lot of money, as I was able to cancel a 500$ MRI, and other subsequent orthopedic visits that had copays piling up. I was also bleeding money having chiropractic work done, even though the chiropractor is awesome and in almost every other situation, incredibly helpful. A pinched nerve in my neck, combined with severe tennis elbow, had pain up and down my arm from fingertip to shoulder. The shoulder blade was in bad shape as well. I have never particularly been fond of needles but once I finally experienced acupuncture, with Dr Chen , the anxiety went away. I no longer associate acupuncture with common needle experiences such as a shot, blood draw, or even tattoo work. She is not only extremely good at what she does, and Dr Chen is a very nice, fun lady to talk to. While I highly recommend her to anybody local I know, in discomfort, I can specifically recommend her to musicians experiencing the hand and arm problems that can add up over the years, especially with a physical instrument like the bass or drums. Dr Chen is amazing! Went to her with anxiety and adrenal issues as well as scalp psoriasis. First treatment I felt more relaxed. I'm on 3rd treatment and my anxiety isn't an issue anymore and I am very relaxed and might I add my scalp stopped itching. I am also on first week of acupuncture for speeding up weight loss and sugar cravings, I don't crave sugar and less of an appetite. I am a reiki practitioner and a massage therapist. Allergies are the worst. Like many people, I am prone to seasonal allergies but this season has been really really bad. Oh the pain and misery of sinus pain! For too many days I couldn't breathe easily through my nose and I couldn't get rid of a MISERABLE headache in my left eye. I have tried everything from stool softners to cutting out food groups and nothing has seemed to help. My dad recommend going to see Dr. Chen after he had been seeing her for multiple issues.
