There are very few attractions in Albany that are worth visiting. Chehaw Park is an exception for those who like tranquility and the outdoors. There is a zoo, biking and if you have kids, a large playground and education center. They even have an RV camping area. The grounds are sprawling and the trails are beautiful. Be sure to bring your best walking shoes and wear sunglasses to keep the gnats out of your eyes. The entrance fee is only $3 per person, slightly more if you want entrance to the zoo. Can't beat that!

I've lived in Albany, GA for most of my life and this is honestly one of the few gems in Southwest Georgia. Some of my best memories from my childhood are probably from the Native American Festival that I went to for several years or the large playground. I can remember going to see Santa a couple of times and getting pictures. I can remember riding the train through the festival of lights. I've ridden bikes through the trails with my dad. I also had a wedding reception at the park near the lake and attended a military ball at the park. I have several memories here. It's a beautiful place and it changes from year to year. The animals are also a big plus. Chehaw definitely has had a place in my life and it's worth checking it out. Be forewarned, though, that they are not up on the times; they will not accept credit cards or anything last I checked. It is an excellent place to take children! The playground there is amazing.

I went here with my husband several months ago, back when we lived in Albany. We had a picnic and walked the trails a little bit. It was really nice. Although I'm sure it's much prettier in the spring/summer (everything was kinda dead when we went). But there are lots of fun things to do here. This would be a great place to take kids. There is an educational center, a zoo and a really cool looking playground. Check it out.

This park and campground is a hidden gem for travelers. They have a ton of recreational things to do and the price is reasonable.

Primitive CAMPING AT THE PARK…read more Memorial day weekend Absolutely love to stay really beautiful, super peaceful and quiet at night other than it being Memorial Day weekend once that cooled down absolutely amazing Camp site We got one of these smaller sites. I wanna say we were at number 10. It was very nice, but it is very unlevel so putting up a tent and walking around in the tent was rough on your feet because it was nothing but roots sticking up out of the ground Luckily enough, we were primitive camping, but still did take an air mattress, but if you were sleeping in a sleeping bag, this would have been a huge problem Something to think about four people who go to primitive camping, but glamp with generators lights, etc. be considerate of your neighbors yes, we do understand that. It was memorial day weekend, but our neighbors had a generator and lights on bright enough You could probably see it from the moon. Even after they went to bed, left their lights on! They were quiet and really kept to themselves even with the children they had with them, but it was not very primitive due to that was a huge bummer to hear a generator going all night long and to be lit up like Fort Knox Also, one of the problems with that is, we were specifically told that even if it was a battery powered generator, they were strictly not allowed, but yet there was clearly that rule is not enforced ADULT Noises Again, memorial day weekend there's drinking going on but for my first time experience here without going into detail, some people sound like chickens being strangled when it's ADULT TIME and you may want to pack a pair of headphones for your small children so that when they hear animals of the night, that sound like rabbits fighting for their life in the tent next to you that they are not scared by the two legged wildlife if you know what I mean lol Roads/car traffic/ATV Traffic was busy again. I'm going to say it was because of the fact that was memorial day but speeding is a major problem if you're planning on walking your little ones to the bathroom you will need to keep a hold of them because it's NASCAR from ATVs to side-by-side they go fast Bathrooms Clean BUT you can see through the curtains which made me really nervous because in my brain if I can see you, you can see me so I ended up bringing clothes pens and a super big beach towel to hang over the curtain Washer and dryer There is a washer and dryer on site that is free to use. It's pretty awesome because nobody really leaves their clothes in there too long and everyone shares it amazing. Lake/fiahing Fishing was absolutely amazing. There's multiple different boat ramps that you can go in Fish off of or you can bank Fish. Do keep in mind that you will need your fishing license because we did get stopped an the 2 men next to us did get a hefty fine for fishing without a license With this being said, I do plan to go again, but I'm going to try to veer away from Big holidays, just due to the fact of the strangled chicken situation

CBS SUNDAY MORNING ended a show with video from this park. We were so intrigued that we started…read moreresearching it for our October 2025 road trip. We are so glad we came. It was incredible! We visited the visitor center/gift shop the first day, before it closed at 5. Rangers were friendly and helpful. We got a map for our hike the next day, and bought some provisions for our stay at a Florence Marina State Park cabin up the road. The next day we hiked down the steep, rocky terrain to the signs for all the trails. We chose Canyons 4-5, which were flat, and less wet & less difficult to hike than Canyons 1-3, and other trails. The views were spectacular! We noticed the puddles of water & wondered why some were silvery and bright. When we asked the ranger in the visitor center/gift shop, she didn't know. The hike back up to the visitor center/gift shop required several stops at Boy Scout donated benches. Thank you, Boy Scouts! My asthmatic lungs needed the respites. At the visitor center, we used the boot cleaning mats and hose to wash off the red clay of Ga. On the way out of the park, we stopped at the restrooms on the right of the road. This is where we got the BEST photos! Stop, get out and walk to the fences. You will be thrilled with the view. We were. This is our now favorite park in GA.

I wish we had more time here to explore all of the canyons! It was so unusual and fun to walk…read morethrough! There is loads of shade in the interior of the canyon and water does trickle through so expect to get a smidge wet and dusty from the canyon. The shop was loaded with great merch but the bathroom was out of service for us so everyone had to use the single toilet handicapped room which wasn't exactly great. The parking fee and map etc can be a little confusing so just be sure to go inside to make sure everything is on the up and up. The rim trail runs immediately around the visitor center just follow the fencing to the left to stay around the rim go to the right to go down into the canyon itself. Both are worth it. We spent more time in the canyon :)
