Thanksgiving miracle!
Scott F.

What a Thanksgiving experience. After making a reservation over a month ago at another restaurant (they even made us do a credit card hold) in Waynesville NC, we showed up 15 minutes early only to find a sign in the window that they were closed for the winter. We no other plans or food in our cabin, we were desperate to find a place that would be open. A few doors down we found hope and help from The Chef's Table. Even though they were booked solid, they were happy to provide us takeout for 4 (including one vegetarian plate) and made us thankful for good people in the world. The food was amazing too!

Just cant decide if its a full 5. Ill stick at 4.5 and you can go and decide. The recommended Juggernaugt wine is a must at a great price.

And they've kept the best.. Kira and Tessa! Graham Overal, the new Executive Chef, greeted our party of 3 and regaled us with tales of his mother's mushroom toast in the UK, his 30 years of culinary experience, and his desire to bring affordable, elevated, locally-sourced, comfort food to Ascot. Our meals (we actually went twice in a week) were delicious. We started with the mushroom toast. I could order this every time. Seasonal mushrooms in a creamy herby sauce over perfectly grilled toast. The steak special for my husband. A filet with foie gras atop creamy potatoes with a rich sauce. I had to try the fish and chips. Light and crisp. Simple. My son had the beef bourguignon with tender veggies and the kind of sauce you want to sop up with bread. During our next visit, we had the mushroom toast and the charcuterie. Local meats and cheeses are beautifully displayed, with extras like fig jam, tart pickles, savory olives, and even lightly grilled asparagus. This time, we had the Chicken Milanese special. My son declared it the juiciest, crispiest chicken he had ever eaten. It is served with arugula and a grilled lemon, but because of food allergies, my son got an au jus. I had two crab cakes with a flavorful garlic aioli. As always, the view from the back veranda is spectacular, especially at sunset. I recommend you go before sunset, enjoy a cocktail in the cozy bar (with Kira and Tessa) or retire to the firepit after dinner. The drink list is small but very adequate, from affordable to splurges. For instance, you can have a prosecco or indulge in a glass of Veuve. Ascot Club diners may have been disappointed in the past due to a rotation of chefs. If the amiable Graham Overal continues innovating and upgrading, the Ascot Club will be the talk of the town and a go-to for locals and visitors alike. Well done.

I got the kava Bahama mama, because I love the fruity drinks and it was fruity and thankfully not overly sweet. Since I'm new to kava, I can't compare it to other spots, but the mixed drinks they made were delicious and super easy to enjoy as a first-timer. And I have to give a special shout-out to the manager, Tori--she makes the best latte I've had in a long time. I ended up grabbing one every night I stopped by. It's an absolute steal! The lounge itself lives up to its name--the vibes are immaculate. Everyone I met, from staff to regulars, was welcoming and kind, which made the experience even better. They also run some great kava drink specials on certain nights of the week. Whether you're a seasoned kava drinker or just curious like I was, Mountain Vibes is definitely worth checking out.

She is really good extremely good at picking out interesting wines for the flights that she changes every week. The wine menu is well rounded and you can also pick out a wine to have with your dinner from the wine shop for a small added corkage fee. I like to start off my meals here with a flight and some olives. This past week I had a delicious Spanish Vegan bean soup with an additional glass of Sangiovese. The prior week I had butternut squash with a Romesco sauce with 2 additional Sangioveses. They seem willing to accommodate my diet here. The rest of the menu would please any palate with lots of creative non Vegan dishes as well. The menu changes every week as do the wine flights. This place is definitely a local favorite and is worth checking out if you are in or close to the area. The actual wine store has some great difficult to find wines as well. All price ranges. A very in the know well rounded well priced tasteful selection rotates through here. I highly recommend both the restaurant and the wine shop!
