I hired Friend That Cook (FTC) to prepare meals for my elderly mother. Because of her age and…read moredoctor-ordered dietary restrictions, I needed a company I could trust to follow those restrictions and deliver the high-quality ingredients and service it represented during the sales process. FTC assured me it could accommodate her needs. I was told its chefs shop for groceries so they can select the best ingredients and make sure the correct products are purchased. I was told fresh ingredients would be used and frozen ingredients only when fresh was unavailable. FTC also emphasized that it has a nutritionist available, which was important to me. What we received was very different. Despite the emphasis on fresh ingredients, the chef purchased canned peas, frozen vegetables, a bagged salad kit, and high-sodium items that conflicted with my mother's doctor-ordered diet. He also purchased products containing corn even though I had specifically told him not to use corn. This occurred even after I raised my ingredient concerns with FTC. There was no indication that fresh vegetables were unavailable; I had fresh vegetables delivered the night before. When I questioned the frozen vegetables, the chef told me the store where he shops "doesn't have the best quality" produce. That contradicted FTC's selling point that chefs must shop so they can select the best available ingredients. I had even asked whether I could buy the groceries myself to avoid paying for the chef's shopping time, but I was told customers could not because the chef needed to select the best available ingredients. If the chef's store did not have good produce, why was he shopping there? I also think FTC's marketing about its chef-selection process deserves context. Its website states: "Less than 1% of chefs who apply...make it through our testing process." I understood that to mean FTC's chefs are highly selective hires who have gone through a rigorous screening process, which I believe is the impression the claim is intended to convey to prospective customers. My experience caused me to view that claim differently. When my mother said she did not want this chef to return, I learned he was FTC's only chef serving Miami. Miami is a huge market. Hypothetically, if 100 people responded to a posting and one made it through, FTC could accurately claim "less than 1%." Without knowing how many applied, how many were tested, or what the testing involved, a customer cannot evaluate what that statistic really represents. I cannot say the statement is mathematically false. My concern is that it creates the impression that FTC has a substantial pool of qualified chefs and hand-picks only the very best. Learning there was only one chef in the Miami market made the claim feel very different from what I believed it represented. The prepared food also fell far short. My mother described the "soups" as having essentially no broth; the chef told her to add water. She found the chicken overcooked and the peppers dry. Ultimately, she did not like anything he prepared other than a salad. The nutritionist was another important part of the service I believed I was purchasing, yet the chef apparently had not consulted that resource before preparing my mother's meals. Having that expertise available has little value to a customer if it is not incorporated into the service for someone with a special diet. There were also concerns about the chef's time reporting, which matters because customers are billed by the hour. For one visit, the chef contacted my mother after arriving at the grocery store to say he was having tire trouble. It appeared we were billed from when he arrived at the store, not when he began shopping. I soon realized I would have to monitor the chef's grocery purchases, ingredients, cooking, and time reporting. That defeats the purpose of hiring this type of service. I needed to trust that my mother's doctor-ordered dietary restrictions would be followed, that the ingredients and cooking would reflect what the company had promised, and that I would not have to supervise everything from a distance. My mother ultimately became adamant that she did not want the chef back. When I requested a replacement, I learned there was no other FTC chef available in Miami. To FTC's credit, Matt was responsive, tried to address the problems, and the company gave me a credit. I appreciated that. My dissatisfaction is not how FTC handled my complaints afterward. It is with the difference between the service FTC marketed and sold to me and the service my mother actually received. My concerns were not about one disappointing meal or an isolated mistake. They involved repeated differences between the service FTC represented it would provide and the service my mother received. Those differences involved the very reasons I chose FTC: ingredient quality, dietary compliance, nutritional expertise, chef quality, and trust. Unfortunately, the service did not match what was promised.

Each event was high end, refined, spectacular and memorable Yesterday was my first ever buffet delivery experience with them. This was a dinner at home for close friends, a small group (10 people). we wanted home cooked latin food. what we got was out of this world authentic delicious and generous portions. what you would get if your abuela was in the kitchen making your favorite dishes. the order processing, delivery, setup, presentation, all first rate and the price was very fair. Everyone went home happily with containers for their own meals; nice to face the workweek and know you didn't need to cook. this service lets me host more get togethers in the future given the high quality and fair pricing.
