Kristen came to our house and created a lovely, elegant, delectable birthday dinner for two: beet…read moretartare, chestnut ravioli, and a chocolate mousse. OMG, so good! Add to that chocolate-covered strawberries, personalized menus, and a beautiful bouquet, and you get the picture: it was a night to remember! We couldn't recommend Kristen highly enough. We're really lucky she is here in the Triangle.

Chef Kristen is absolutely amazing. I found her while looking to give my wife a birthday present…read more We both love to eat and cook, but being a working Mom, my wife spends a huge amount of time on food preparation. I hoped I could find someone for a spell that would make delicious, healthy food that would also give my wife some extra free time. A double win. Chef Kristen has knocked that goal out of the park. First she met with us to get a really detailed understanding of our preferences and feelings on specific ingredients. Then she creates a set of menu choices we can review and select from. Next she sends us shopping list we can modify based on what we have in the pantry and she picks up the rest. That's all there is to it. But that's just the process. What about the food? Holy God. You can see from her website that the food is visually stunning. But the taste is just sensational. We are not vegetarian or vegan, but we have enjoyed trying out this diet during our time with Chef Kristen and the flavors and sensations she is able to render from plant-based ingredients (ex: lentil meatballs you will swear have meat in them) show a real mastery of technique. She has also changed my opinion on a number of previously polarizing ingredients. I'm looking at you mushrooms! Lastly, she's just extremely nice and easy to work with. She gets to know your family and enjoys sharing stories and hearing feedback on the food. We're so glad to have found her and our whole family, including our 9 year-old son give her the highest recommendation.

Redstart Foods - Blue corn cookie

I'm way behind on writing this review from a visit early this year (Feb 2026). Everything I tried…read morehere was fantastic! The house-made English muffin breakfast sandwich is a must! So fluffy and fresh...mmm. And that chutney took it to the next level. I gave the mortadella a try since I've never had it. Felt like this would be a good place to give it a shot. Not quite my thing but I can tell it's definitely good if you like mortadella. Also had crispy potatoes and a blue cornmeal cookie. All things I would order again and again!! Wish we had a from scratch breakfast spot like this in my area. This place is a gem. Please support it!

Redstart Foods was one of my favorite food finds of the summer. If I lived in the area I could see…read moremyself being a regular here, and I'm jealous of those who are regulars. I tried both dinner and brunch over a short weekend stay in the area and both were 10/10. Everything here is homemade and beyond fresh. I had a grits special and it was the best I've ever had. The chicken dinner seems to be the most popular dinner item here, but I broke the mold and went with the pork and it was fantastic. I am not a potato person, but the side potatoes were phenomenal. The back patio makes for a great place to enjoy a meal and linger over a beer or tap natural wine. The inside is a little more hectic and not somewhere I would linger. There is also a little market with some grab and go items and beer/wine. A true neighborhood gem!

The Food Fairy - Food should always be exciting!

Wow, The Food Fairy is simply just a breath of fresh air. What is The Food Fairy you ask? A…read morecaterer? No. A personal chef? No. The Food Fairy is far more than that. The Food Fairy did my wedding rehearsal dinner and went well beyond that of a caterer and personal chef. Terri, the founder and owner of the Food Fairy listened to what my fiancee and i thought we wanted, and made suggestions for food, a signature cocktail, and was able to accommodate our gluten free and vegetarian guests with more than your standard grilled veggies. She worked with us to craft a menu that represented the a fusion of our two separate tastes- for my fiancee, an avid shrimp enthusiast and meatball maniac, we had a deconstructed shrimp cocktail, and Parmesan meatballs with a "once in a lifetime sauce." For me, a dumpling evangelist and lover of all cheese the Food Fairy prepared seared pork and scallion dumplings and a cheese cake! No, I don't mean your standard cake, I mean throw out your idea of a cheese plate, and instead construct what appears to be a cake out of wheels of cheese. And that only names a few of the 16 delicious items that were served on our special day. If you want food that is prepared with a passion and respect for ingredients, that runs the gamut of cuisines and flavor profiles, and is prepared with a great attention not only to detail, but also to the larger cohesive meal and guest experience, then you need The Food Fairy in your life.

I had gone on a spearfishing trip to Baja and caught a bunch of yellowtail to serve at the wedding. She served it seared, on a stick, with watermelon and basil. It was incredibly creative, made an amazing presentation and was mouth-watering good. I have high standards and especially with fish. The other dishes were all amazing and we still talk about them today. Aside from the top-notch quality, Terri was very responsive in communications and her whole staff is a pleasure to be with. I'd highly recommend her and look forward to having an opportunity to work with her again in future. Terri, thank you so much for our Food Fairy wand/stirring spoon. To this day it's one of our favorite kitchen utensils.
