I called in Chef Corner while looking for something to eat in Barcelona. On my trip to Barcelona one of the things I struggled with most was getting a good gluten free meal, I just struggled as most places I went too simply had an awful menu or no knowledge of gluten free so I called in here after being drawn in by an English sounding name and the place did look nice too.
Hoping to get some food before my flight home to Manchester later in the day.
The waiter seemed quite friendly and had a good knowledge of gluten free, he talked me through what he could cook for me..
I ended up ordeing some Chicken with mashed potatoes, as I was told the diced potatoes were fried in an oil making them not gluten free.
When it arrived, I was a little disappointed as the mashed potato was a puree, it just looked like sick or baby food, I did send it back and despite the language barrier, the language seemed to understand and he told me he would ask the chef to change the oil and make the Al Forno potatoes, which was a kind gesture. He also offered to remove the ham the chicken was layered in.
The food was much nicer when it came back and the gesture he did was fantastic, by cleaning out the grill and changing the oil so I could eat the potatoes and have something alongside my salad rather than baby food vomit or salad.
It did have quite a high-end and slightly posh feel inside but the pricing was reasonable and the food was good quality.
I feel this place deserves four stars as it is probably alongside the Hilton and Gino's in the best food I had in Barcelona, the only independent to make my top three which is quite interesting and I'm pleased to report so. Due to original issues such as the lack of a real, informative menu for gluten free which just seemed to be in parts and not in full, and a lack of being aware of the pricing before ordering, I feel this place only deserves 4 stars and nothing more but still has done enough to impress me deeply. read more
