Howe Marine is under new ownership, and although we never had any issue with the previous owners,…read morethe new owners go above and beyond to take good care of their customers! They are super friendly and make an effort to remember names. Happy to have a boat slip here!

We reserved a pontoon boat well in advance for an all day trip on Saturday. When we woke up on…read moreSaturday it was pouring rain, and we only live 30 miles from Indian River. So we called the other five people in our party and told them we can't go because it's raining, and then we called Howe Marine and told them it was raining and we can't go out on the pontoon boat. They told us it's not raining in Indian River and if we do not come and get the pontoon boat they're going to charge us full price. I told them nobody told us about their cancellation policy. They said it's on our website. Not everybody looks at your website. I told them we should have been informed of your cancellation policy when we called, to which they replied, you didn't ask. So after calling everybody back again and telling them we have to go on the trip or we lose all our money, we went. By the time we got there it was noon and nearly half of our day trip had been wasted. To their credit though, they told us they would only charge us for half a day, and if it rained they would only charge us for gas. 2 hours into our trip it started pouring, and kept pouring until we got back to the marina at 5. Upon pulling up to the marina they came out and told us that it only started raining 30 minutes ago. They also told us that there would be no charge for the boat since it did rain and they would only charge us for gas. Today I look at my bank statement, and they did charge us for gas, and the boat! So not only did they ruin our boating trip, they also went back on their word and took the money. They are very picky with their boats, and I can understand that to keep them in good shape. But, when you pick up a boat they tell you everything that's wrong with it before you take it out, including all the previous damage that other renters have done to it. So my question is, what do you do with the money that you charge people that damage your boat for the repairs, since you obviously don't repair the boats? I have rented from this place once before, and never had a problem. All it takes is one incident and you lose a customer. Treat your customers with respect and understanding, and they'll come back. I won't. Update: They charge for oil? And she's on the phone with my wife threatening her about posting our name and other stuff. And we we're NOT drunk when we came back. Threatening your customers? Nice. You can respond to this review with negative comments and tear us down all you want, I do not run a customer oriented business, you do. So let your true colors shine.

In early June I requested a service call to inspect my steering system at my dock in Northwest…read moreMarina. I did not attend since I live down state. The inspection cost $323 but they provided no useful repair suggestions. Then in late June the harbormaster called me to tell me that the boat had and alarm sounding. I told him that I had a service call and that the technician must have left the battery switch on. He agreed to turn it off. On the fourth of July I attempted to take my family for a cruise but both batteries were totally dead. I had to scramble to purchase a battery charger and plug adapter for $185. Two days later the boat was finally on line. I visited the service manager and requested that he reimburse me for the charger and adapter. He said that he would "make it right" and he would get back to me. Five days later and two unreturned phone calls he finally told me that I probably needed a charger anyway (not true) and he would not purchase it from me. Then he said that there should have been an additional $50 charge but he would waive the extra charge. Overall I was extremely disappointed with the way I was treated.

After I ran the boat to my home port, I noticed I was running out of fuel in my starboard tank. The port tank was 1/2 full. After I ran the numbers, I should be just below 1/2 tank. I stopped at Washington Island and paid 6.49 per gallon, so I took on 40 gallons (20 Per side) and that got me to my home port without any issues. I tapped on the tanks and felt I had about 10" on both sides. That would be about 35 to 40%. - The gauge on the starboard read 11%. I took picture to compare as the Starboard sensor was recently replaced. They installed the incorrect sensor. The old owner had purchased sensor however did not have the time to install and hired Dry Harbor. He was told he had the incorrect ones and they obtained it. They were wrong and the my guy was correct. The correct one is a KUS SSL-25 (25") 001306k They installed an aftermarket 23" from summit racing #226-660 2111010113. (The ohm readings are not even similar.) He paid to replace it twice now. He had an issue with the generator studdering and popping. Hired them to look at it. They ran test and stated it was fine. On my demo ride, it was running like crap. Same issue. My broker suggested to have them reduce the boat price by 500 bucks and I to take care of. Heck, 2-hours later, 2-Spark plugs and fuel filter, it ran awesome. Simple fix by any person. He had several issues, mostly with lack of attention to detail. - Looks horrible. I'll ix in the off-season. In my opinion, the price rate you pay for quality mechanics should not get this UN-qualified service and lack of detail. You are not able to trust this place. Likewise, most marina's are the same. It is too bad the industry has taken this approach. Good thing I know how to work on my own stuff.
