When it comes to choosing a hospice in Atlanta, it can be difficult because there are so many! And…read moremost of us don't know anything about hospice care or even how to pick a good hospice company. Some hospices might have 20 to 30 patients and just started last year! But you would never know that. And who has time to do research when your family member needs immediate help! Agape means "love" and I truly believe they try to model that every day. Agape hospice has been around for over a decade. They have 24 hour care and support for all of the Atlanta area. This particular location is their Villa Rica office, but they have office locations in Marietta, Woodstock, Cumming, Lawrenceville, and Athens!! They work with several hundred patients and families ever day! I will continue to recommend Agape hospice to my friends and families!

Do not allow your loved one to use this Hospice. I was required to use the star rating, but I…read moredidn't want to even leave 1 star. My grandmother used this Hospice for 1 benefit period. They were terrible! Hospice is supposed to keep their patient's comfortable and pain free. Not this Hospice. My grandmother has a Glioblastoma that took up roughly 50% of her brain. Glioblastomas are very aggressive tumors. She was constantly complaining of being in pain, and on top of that, when she wasn't complaining of pain, anyone with medical knowledge could tell by looking at her that she was. Her hospice nurse did NOTHING to change her pain medications. They spent roughly 5 minutes with her each visit and by State guidelines they are required to spend a minimum of 30 minutes with each patient. I know this because I work for hospice as well. After getting crappy care for a month my family and I decided to transfer her to a different hospice. Transferring a patient from one hospice to another allows the patient to continue within the same benefit period, under Medicare. With Medicare, patients are given 2 benefit periods lasting 90 days. If a patient transfers they stay in the benefit period that they are in. Compassus DISCHARGED my grandmother, forcing her to give up one of her benefits and placing her in her second benefit period. Not only did they discharge her, but they were non-compliant with the hospice that we placed her with. NO ONE SHOULD EVER USE THIS HOSPICE! They are a joke and need to be shut down! A bit of advice to all that are unaware, YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHATEVER HOSPICE YOU WANT AND YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO TRANSFER AT ANY TIME YOU WANT. If you want the best care for your loved one, DO NOT use this Hospice!

The doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers somehow managed to be attentive while also giving us the space we needed during this difficult time. The environment is so peaceful and calm, and my father was so comfortable and pain free during his stay. As my father's only close family member, I was offered so much support and all the stress and worry from the previous months of his illness disappeared and I was finally able to focus on just being with him during his final days. This place is phenomenal…read more I am so emotional after my business meeting there today that I almost can't take it. My grandmother didn't have that much dementia, but the place where we "placed" her was not nearly as wonderful as this Emeritus location. I think she would have been a great candidate for one of their "wings" - if only she had lived here and not in Rome, maybe we could have had her there. Here's the deal - Emeritus has 11 metro-Atlanta facilities, four that are dementia-specific, so to speak, and over 400 locations nationwide. From meeting with one of the key folks today, and meeting other staff and directors, it is clear that they are committed to the very best in patient care and treatment. Each resident has a nameplate on the door, and a photo/collage type thing next to their door with whatever they feel portrays them best- family pics, notes, etc. Even better, the four "sections" of the facility are decorated like....things that make you happy! My favorite was the "beach" themed room- and the hair salon! In one corner of a wing, they even have an old-fashioned mirror/dressing table and vintage dresses next to it. Wow. Beyond the aesthetics, it was clear that the staff really cares, and that anyone whom I love would be well tended to at this place...I witnessed staffers calling everyone they saw by name, carefully tending to the sofas in the lounge area, checking on people in their rooms or in the common dining area or group activity area. Really, it was - overwhelming. Bob Carr and staff do an incredible job, it seems - if I get totally *out there* one day, for whatever reason, this is the kind of place I would want to be.
