I'm wasn't sure what connection a tree had to this…read morestore, except the tree for which it's named is common to the southeast and this shop has works from artists and artisans from around the area. If that's not the connection, I give up. Still, the name makes it stand out from other like-styled shops. It's an open space shop, with wide aisles and lots of glass shelves and racks to keep the light flowing throughout. It makes it easy to see the item in a non-distracting setting. Things are mixed throughout so you'll find similar items all around the store. There's a mix of media here, art created by the two owners along with pottery, jewelry, prints, scarves, and the like made by others with whom they share a common view. The goods are contemporary for the most part, but with a nice variety. For a unique gift, or to claim ownership of an original work of art, you'll find this is a good place to start, or stop. You can probably find something less expensive at a similar-themed place, but what you get may be more cookie-cutter style.

She has excellent taste and I particularly love her selection of ceramics and jewelry. It's usually my first stop when I need to shop for a gift or am looking for something special for my house. There is always something new to look at and the First Sunday exhibits featuring several artists are lovely, often with music. Definitely worth stopping if you are in downtown Pittsboro.

I was able to come in, show the owner some previous framings I had done, and she made the aesthetic of her piece look aligned with my previous pieces that I had done elsewhere. I visited again less than a week ago with a photo that I had found on the internet showing the kind of style I was looking for. We picked out the ideal frame and the mat and talked about the layout. Today I picked up my custom frame job and it's PERFECT. PERFECT! The owner of this store is friendly, professional, and she does great work. It's worth the price. Take your money here and support a local business instead of going to a corporate chain for your framings. Whenever I need anything framed - this is where I will go! Across the Tracks also has pillows and things for sale in the shop if you're interested in that.

Completed in 1881 in a Late Victorian style with a classical portico and a three stage cupola, the building was designed as a sturdy two-story brick landmark that immediately became the county's civic anchor. Pittsboro has always been the county seat, and the county itself was named for William Pitt, the Earl of Chatham, a British statesman admired by the colonies. Walking around the exterior, you get that rare unencumbered 360-degree view that reminds you that they truly do not make them like this anymore. After a devastating fire in 2010, the courthouse was restored and reopened in 2013, with the first floor becoming the Chatham Historical Museum and the second floor returning to courtroom use. The result is a tremendous blend of preservation and resilience. It's a historic structure that still commands the center of town with all its original presence.
