If we were not, we were going to go ahead and stay here. The manager went ahead, made an assumption, and cancelled our reservation without written final confirmation from us. We arrived at the venue and she insisted we had confirmed we cancelled by simply enquiring for a refund because we double booked. Their only solution was to charge us extra funds for a forced upgrade because they released our room. After an unpleasant conversation, our room rate miraculously became available again. Very disappointed to see a beautiful and would otherwise have been a pleasant stay have such disappointing customer service.

I was married here, and the wedding planning manager, Samantha F, was truly a nightmare. She epitomized what people hate about the french - exceptionally rude and unreasonable, generally not helpful, and made the planning process more difficult than it should have been. Christine, the hotel manager, was amazing when we were there. Unfortunately, we couldn't work with Christine in planning the wedding. A few examples of our disappointment was that Samantha wouldn't give us our wedding suite before 3PM on the day of our wedding or even give us a regular room at a discount, she wouldn't give us a $100 refund per plate for a few guests who cancelled less than 24 hours after we gave her our final numbers (this was 3 weeks BEFORE our wedding) or even adjust our seating chart to account for the cancellations, when I asked her to give us the plates for those who cancelled for those at our wedding who are still hungry, she said she would but didn't, she didn't refrigerate our flowers (bride's bouquet and corsages) on the day of the wedding so they were wilting by the time the wedding took place, she didn't help us find vendors for any other services, she didn't save any rooms for us for our guests to book for longer than a week (and this was 9 months before the wedding), and she said certain things would be in our contract but weren't (and then she wouldn't let me alter or renegotiate things). My french wedding planners and family even pointed out how difficult she was and had a few choice names for her. She would send us hostile toned emails for things pertaining to her arbitrary and unreasonable deadlines. Also, the restaurant chef came from a Michilin restaurant, and his vegetarian dish was TERRIBLE. It was rice with green peas. That's it. The wedding cake was also bad, and we paid over $1000 for it. The meat dishes and other food items were fantastic though. This place has so much potential, and if the British owner just got rid of the bad staff and improved customer service, it would be an amazing experience for folks. Try to learn from hotels outside of France on what counts for good customer service. My friends who were married in other countries did not experience any of my experiences - it's clear that getting married at the Chateau or possibly generally in France is a far more trying experience. I didn't go to the winery - no time - but the wine served at the events was phenomenal. In fact, I only saw this wine being sold at the Nice airport.
