Chateau Buffalo - 2017 Terminus Red Wine Blend
    Randy O.

Last week I tasted Terminus 2017 Red Wine Blend at the North Tonawanda farmer's market. This met my modest expectations for an affordable screw-top wine by a local craft producer.- fun, light, dry, and a bit chocolate-forward. Or as winemaker Carl Schmitter aptly describes on his company's website: "exploratory and artistic". I thanked Carl for the tasting and his kindness, then continued on. A couple market stalls later, the finish kicked in - surprisingly complex and balanced. So I returned and bought a bottle for my cellar. While I won't rate this as 'exceptional' or 'classic', it is quite satisfying and unique, and certainly a good value at its price point. I'll enjoy this as an aperitif with cheese, or possibly with poultry as an entree.

Stopped in for a wine and cider tasting. We weren't really sure what to expect since there wasn't any signs posted on tastings and what they included, however the employee was super friendly and when we told him it was our first time visiting, he gave us the low down. We chose the tasting which was $10. It seemed expensive at first until I found out we would get to try all of the wines and ciders on the menu (10), which is most of what they offer in the store. The pours were big pours too, so think of it as a dollar per tasting, for those pours, was a good deal. Starting with the ciders, you go from dry to sweet. The first one we had was dry but very light and refreshing - Perry Pirouette, made with pears, very good. There was a also a cider blended with strawberry, that was tasty too. Onto the wines, the dry Riesling had an interesting flavor, almost like hints of vanilla. I enjoy Riesling but wasn't a huge fan of this one. You end with a dessert wine, which was a cherry one when we went. If you love cherries - this is a must! I liked that all the wines and ciders are made locally and bottled at a fair price. He told us that we also get a 15% off discount on any bottle we take home, but not sure why, maybe because we did the tasting. Anyway, I'm glad we ventured out to try this place. The atmosphere was definitely not what I expected though. Located in the Niagara frontier food terminal, it was kind creepy driving around it since it was so old. Not sure of their hours, but wouldn't go here past dark. Also, the inside has a hipster vibe to it, the music was like dark foreign techno, not necessarily a bad thing, just very different from most tasting rooms. Cool vibe for artists, hipsters, and the young wine tasters out there.

Fun urban winery located in a less travelled part of the city. We arrived right when the owner opened and lucked into a private tasting. The owner explained where the grapes were sourced and their wine making processes- All local and was fun to learn. The store is a little rough around the edges but that added to the experience. If you enjoy sweet wines, then this is your place - The 999 Broadway and the Love Joy Rosé were nice wines and inexpensive. The highlight was the Dandelion wine. Never tried one before and it was limited as its hard to make. They also makes different and creative ciders. Make the trip into the city or find them at the Broadway Market and other local events

Our delicious New York local Cheese plates! (There were delicious crackers included as well, but I forgot to include them in the picture!)

Fun event, wine and cheese. Used the Groupon and saved a lot of money. Though to buy the wine, its quite expensive for the local brands.

My husband and I have very different tastes in wine and cider, but we each found something we loved.

As I don't consume cheese, the wine connoisseur took it upon himself to find an appropriate non-dairy match for me, and did a phenomenal job with it. From the grilled portabella mushroom caponata with a Canadian Pinot Noir, to the sweet maple syrup drizzled figs with a little lemon with a local blackberry wine, or the channa masala to compliment the sweet Californian Riesling, every bite and sip was a harmonious marriage. ‍‍ The service was phenomenal and that alone makes visiting this winery worth it, a long with the educational value offered. The staff is very knowledgeable on different wines and also has that skill of disseminating the information effectively to better educate its customers. Even though we have visited a few wineries and vineyards in the US and abroad, I would take this one to be in my top 3 experiences. The tasting room is also clean and well set up. I would highly recommend visiting Ten Thousand Vines if you are from the area or visiting to try some of the phenomenal wines from WNY.

They have so many unique wines here and there's something for everyone. I like sweet wine and my fiance likes dry and we both found quite a few options. They offer tastings which is what I usually do to try some new wines out. The tastings are reasonably priced but it you end up buying wine, then the tasting is generally free.

We went to four different wineries and were given a bit 80 minutes to explore Niagara on the Lake! After each winery our driver put all our bottles in designated boxes so we didn't have to carry them around the whole trip- so beneficial! We went to Pellitteri Estates Winery where we tasted their award winning white ice wine (top 100 wine in the WORLD), their red ice wine, a red and a white. We received a tour of their wine cellar, vineyard and learned about history of the winery. This was my favorite of all the wineries we went to- the quality was super high and the prices were actually pretty inexpensive! I bought their Cabernet merlot which was amazing! Wish I bought another bottle. Our second winery was Caroline Cellars. Honestly I would say I liked this winery just as much as Pelliterri- Pelliterri just had a classier vibe to it. Caroline had so many different varieties to taste! My husband and I's factories were the Pinot Cherry and Plum! So obviously we got a bottle of each. Our third winery was so pretty! Konzelmann Estate Winery looks like a castle right out of a fairytale! We were given deliciously cured meats, cheeses, crackers, and DELICIOUS ice wine truffles to pair with each of our tastings. I would definitely say their Peach wine was the best! The star of this winery was definitely their ice wine truffles. I wish I bought some- big regrets! Our last winery was our driver's pick and honestly it was pretty disappointing to end with Between the Lines. None of the wines stood out to anyone in our group. It honestly tasted like very cheap wine. Everyone on the tour wish we could go back to the first two wineries! Suggestion- take Between the Lines off your itinerary!! The time given to explore Niagara on the Lake was just enough time! We got a quick bite to eat at a nice pizza restaurant, walked to Lake Ontario, and shared an ice cream at the Cow. Such a fun time! I would definitely recommend taking this tour!

I couldn't have made a better decision. Our guide, Brendan picked us up the day we arrived at the bus terminal. We were nervous we might miss the tour because there was an unexpected delay crossing the border at the Peace Bridge. But I called the office and they assured us we would make it on time probably and if not they would help us to meet up with the tour. We luckily made it. Brendan was a great guide. He has a lot of energy and is knowledgeable about the local wines and the winemaking process. And he went out of his way to make sure everyone was having a great time. He took us to a very nice brewery, Ouest and several wineries including some extra stops of his favorites. My favorite of the wineries was Jackson Triggs because the guide there was the most knowledgeable and they gave us a tour of the whole process. The dinner at The Ravine was amazing as well. All of the vegetables in the salad are grown on the farm in back of the restaurant. I really couldn't recommend this tour more highly. Whether you're a wine snob or a novice you will enjoy it. If you do it book a tour with Brendan.
