I just opened a new attorney trust account at this Santander branch in Ewing, NJ. I did not have an…read moreappointment, but was still able to sit down with their Vice President and Branch Manager, John Webb, with ten minutes of walking in. I consider that a win. It seems that these administrative tasks are becoming more complicated and time consuming. We were together at his Covid screened desk for more than 30 minutes as he worked through all the computer screens required for starting the account. Federal regulations are concerned with the legitimacy of the business and the source of funds. So, it wasn't Me. Webb's fault that so much information was demanded. Too, we were fortunate that I already had other accounts with the bank, and he was able to go into his data base for background data, like my federal ID number. Of course, I trust their cyber security is strong and regularly updated to protect my important data from ha king eyes. The account is up and running today and ready for use. I updated my IOLTA registration with the state supreme court as required, and am good to go. Whatever issues there were with the old account seem not to have been transferred to the new one. That's a relief. I appreciate they way John Webb took care of my business.

We use this bank for work, and as the last month wore on, we've had a lot of trouble, without…read moreresolution. We were told to take advantage of their online banking to manage our accounts, but have been locked out -- for no apparent reason -- of the service 2 of the 3 times I've logged in, which necessitated a call to customer service with a 10+ minute wait time. I've had to go into the bank on 3 occasions to work out kinks, and each visit lasts on average, 90 minutes. It turns out each bank has strengths and weaknesses, and the staff at the local office told me last week they really can't do what we need them to do (business escrow service), and I appreciate their candor, and have no problem with the people I've deal with face-to-face. But I have no idea why they told us up front they could do what we need; AND to be turned over to the impersonal call-this-toll-free-number-for-help is frustrating. Maybe this bank is a-ok if you use them for your personal accounts, but for small business, there are better banks for sure.

But there unfortunately competing in a modern world, and most of us need more for banks then just at counter service. They have a mobile app, they just spent 54 minutes with me trying to get it to work, it never did work. Their web banking work sometimes today I was able to get logged in relatively consistently, but the mobile banking is down. Tomorrow it might be the other way around or they might both be down

Around here, at least, they seem to look for the least expensive buildings available and make only minimal investment in making their customers and their employees comfortable. Officers without offices. Low heat in the branches. Minimalist decoration. Maybe this makes people bank more quickly? I don't know, but it seems too austere. Yet, they know how to open accounts, take deposits and take care of basic business banking. My new accounts were up and running within 24 hours. Ordered checks arrived in about a week. Hooked me up with ADP for payroll services. This particular location is the second closest to my new office, and the closest with parking for ease of use. Friendly folks, but I was the only customer at 2:00 pm on the last day of the month. Plenty of personalized attention, for sure. But, I just hope I'm not the only customer. The hard surfaces echoed our private conversation at the teller's station into a public address announcement. Let's see how it goes. Really good fried chicken joint right across the street!
