    Genisys Credit Union

I've been with Genisys for 3 or 4 years now, and I have been nothing but satisfied. Staff are not…read morejust pleasant, not just efficient, they are actually PASSIONATE about what they do. They make an effort to learn your name and face when you come in. I could work with a teller one time, and the next time I come in they will immediately call me by my first name and start pulling my account up. Interest being paid on my accounts is untouchable by any other financial institution in the area, and I've always been happy with any products I use with them, such as my Genisys Mastercard. I was initially concerned about the lack of branches in the area, but I found that it was more than remedied by their mobile banking (you can do anything on your phone that you can do on your computer), helpful staff, and branch hours that feel more tailored to the working man. Compare that to Advia Credit Union (whom I previously had my account through)- 5 branches in this area, but a mobile banking app that is consistently broken and doesn't do much when it IS working, and drive-thru and ATM lines that are always backed up. Night and day difference. Overall I'm very happy with Genisys, and this branch in Marysville stands out as exceptional compared to the Clinton Township branch.

Love their free checking, and the rewards debit card. Hate the long wait at the drive thru no…read morematter how busy they are, inconvenience of limited # of branches and the staff is not always friendly. This bank has a few perks but the staff should be taught to thank the customers for their business and how to smile upon greeting you .

I'd say up until 2022 they were easily worth a 5 star review. However, their standards and…read morepractices has slipped tremendously. They started kicking out pending and posted payments regularly before bouncing them back in. This leads to your balance not being presented as correct and can easily occur overdraft fees. They once had no limit on removing any overdraft fee, as long as you made a deposit within 24 hours to correct this, but now it's limited to 2 per year. Lastly, do not get a loan through them. We have a Unsecured Loan and pay additional each month for a plan that helps if one of us is laid off it forgives or lower the payments for that month. We'll because our Loan Officer was on vacation they never put our paperwork through, so we still got a penalty because they couldn't pass it off to another worker.

At this point a big bank might be better than a "credit union". Their fees are ridiculous. Want to…read moretalk to some about an issue good luck unless you can afford to take off work to go in. Want to at lunch well you better hurry because they have just a few tellers during lunch so spend your whole lunch waiting in line. Had money in saving and checking(pending charges that would go over checking balance by $4. Well before the future transactions post they will just apply OD protection and charge $7 to take money from savings to checking. I have the money. If i transfer manually its free. Automated system does it, we need $7 for a few lines of code to run. My last credit union charged no such fee for the same service. Oh by the way it was $4 but they need $7 for that... Oh if you do OD better hope it is Thursday or $35 fees per OD transaction. Looked up Huntington and their OD fees are much lower and capped. Like another reviewer mentioned dont get a loan through them. They auto add a protection plan which will charge you way more than just interest alone. They dont tell you about it until you ask them about why you have $30 fee for some silver plan. Suffice to say im looking at banks and taking my business elsewhere. Despicable practices from a business(credit union) that's supposed to operate better than big banks. I went with advia over huntington when i moved to Michigan because my last credit union was the best so i figured a credit union would treat me better than a big bank. Sounds like my experience isnt unique. Good luck on getting bought out and merged into a bigger bank.
