First Merchants Bank - great location

    First Merchants Bank

Fast and efficient, polite and easy to work with location along the main stretch from Indy to Avon,…read moreI dropped in away from home for a check deposit. I got right into the car port and didn't wait at all for a response after sending up the chute. I have been saying First Merchants for decades since opening my first ever financial service with them in high school. I have expanded to other accounts as well for better credit card perks, app benefits, and less hassle than an old fashioned bank. I've noticed no loyalty rewarded here for long term users which is awkward compared to the serious cash back card options easily accessible and online options offering crypto investment platforms and all sorts of useful tools.

However, since I've been spending so much time in Hendricks and Putnam Counties I've had multiple opportunities to visit this Avon branch. This branch is located directly off U.S. 36 and is in the same complex as the Regal Theatre, the new Ford's Garage, Portillo's, and a few other establishments. This IMCU has quite a bit of land. It used to have an ATM out in an adjacent parking lot, however, most of the IMCU branches switched to a smart teller and that caused everything to be relocated. Whether using an ATM, a video teller, or going inside, I've always had great experiences here. There's a couple accessible parking spots and a pretty decent ramp to get up to their sidewalk. They have the usual security doors, however, it works well and everyone is super friendly. After receiving some unexpected funds, I stopped off to explore options for using them wisely. I was presented with options. Each option was explained and we chose the best one for my situation. I appreciated that they were cautious about my account, however, once their security measures were addressed they also helped me work toward meeting my needs. I wish I lived a bit closer to this one as I would no doubt use it more often, however, it's definitely not uncommon now for me to stop in when I'm going to or from Putnam County. This has quickly become one of my favorite IMCU branches in Central Indiana.

It was mid-afternoon on a rainy day. The weather sucked. It was cloudy. It was just one of those "get it over with" days. Then, I stroll in. Okay, I'm a wheelchair user and technically I wheeled in (thanks for the great curb cuts and automatic doors, by the way). I was greeted enthusiastically by Yolanda, a newer branch manager with Everwise who listened patiently as I explained what felt to me like a complex estate issue as my father, a longtime Everwise member, had recently passed away. Yolanda got busy. We worked, okay she worked, for quite awhile getting everything straightened out and ensuring funds were accounted for, a small but lingering mortgage was addressed, and that all financial matters were addressed appropriately. No one ever wants to have to go through this process, but Yolanda did what was needed and I left Everwise with everything resolved. Along the way, she explained everything well. She was friendly, professional, and such a good representative of Everwise that I began to understand why my father (who typically used the Greencastle branch) loved Everwise so much. I'd long observed that the Greencastle manager (Megan) seemed to really take good care of my father - and that's exactly the approach Yolanda used, as well. I also saw teamwork. Because she was newer, Yolanda had to consult a couple times to complete processes. It all went seamless. When she called other areas of Everwise, there seemed to be a strong rapport and consistent communication. Now then, I haven't necessarily seen the final mortgage paperwork (it does take time to document a paid off mortgage). However, every aspect of this interaction was exceptional. Going through the bereavement journey is difficult. However, folks like Yolanda make it infinitely easier by reducing the stress of these types of processes. A credit union based in Indiana and Michigan, Everwise really was excellent here and it comes down to person-centered banking, a strong employee, and processes that led to more solutions than obstacles. Bravo.
